Why not? Hopefully they can take Liverpool and City with them.

the 5th of July news, is; Nike will recall all of the newly released kits, and pull the plug on the deal, because they are sick of the letters from the likes of Kemo asking them to buy Ronaldo for United ;)

keane does move to leeds as manager coach, and get them releagated b4 going onto manage a better club <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

DOL comes to United as coach, and bring in Ferdinand & Kewell with him. ;)

How about this one...
Leeds United appoint Martin O'Neill as new manager. Roy Keane is to be the new player manager of Celtic...

It's as good as any of the other guesses.

And just as unlikely.

I think David May's retiring.

The more I think about it, if it is true and a player is on his way - and an "inspirational" player at that - the only area that Utd could off load is in the midfield. That leaves a choice of Beckham (not after all the protracted negotiations of his new contract), Giggs (no natural successor - and a dirth of world class left wingers who, if it were possible, could replace him (possibly Duff), Keane (a clear favourite given his recent troubles - but again he is the heartbeat of the team and they are not the same without him), Butt (too valuable as a back up and happy to play that role), Veron (tremendous media pressure and home sick - but Fergie would be loathe to give the media any opportunity to crow if he left, especially after his lambasting defence of the player)

and finally:

SCHOLES

The more I think about it, if anyone was to be sold, he is the one I think Fergie would release. It was his inability to adapt to the new formation (not his fault) which screwed the early part of last season. He had a huge dip in form (as did a lot of Utd players) and still doesn't look like he's entirely back (apart from some excellent moments - had a subdued World Cup and hardly threatened in the box). He had a sharp disagreement with Fergie - refusing to play a Worthington cup fixture and failing to get on the bus.

Fergie's needs to strengthen the back. Rio is coming IMO. Nesta is a stated target. Another striker is needed. That's 3 new players.

If Rio, Nesta and another striker (Ronaldo?)come in then you are looking at a massive outlay. Money will have to be recouped (Edwards stated this would be the case in a recent BBC interview). The owed Stam money would go toward Nesta plus an additional £20 million. Rio would cost £30 million and Ronaldo £25 million. In total £75 million.

If Scholes went - for a minimum of £25 million then Utd would need to raise £50 million. £20 million of that would come from the new Nike deal, leaving £30 million to be found out of the £60 million or so profits from this season.

Wouldn't be so sure of that.

Blanc is looking unlikely to stay another year.

Which only leaves Brown and O'Shea and a new CB. Fergie has stated he wants to forge a new Bruce/Pallister partnership. And it's gone very quiet on the Nesta front - usually meaning frenzied negotiations behind closed doors.

:)

Scholes to go?

I hadn't thought of it up until now but yeah it is very possible. He would raise some decent funds too.

There is no way it will be Veron. Fergie will never admit to making a mistake, ever - for that reason he will persist with Veron and make him a success.

That makes Scholes despensible.

If United were to go in for Nesta, as Ferguson said, then it would only cost United £16 million after the Inter Milan presidant said yesterday that Lazio are holding out for £27 million (40 million euros), so if you were to cancel out the money still owed by Lazio it brings the transfer few down to £16 million.

With £20 million coming from the Nike deal possibly going towards a deal for Ronaldo with United only paying £5 million, that could be paid for by the sale Dwight Yorke for around £6 million and with Fortune's work permit possibly expiering United may also cash in on him after an impressive world cup and maybe going for about £5-7 million, that means a total income including the Nike deal of £32 million and going out,
£35 million Rio
£17 million Nesta
£25 million Ronaldo
= £77 million

In= £32 million
=£45 million spent, which after Peter Kenyon said that they may be wlling to spend over last years expenditure may well be acceptable.

Lazios president usually tells if something is going on so i dont think it is any negogiations yet.

Not far off could be O'Neill to Leeds along with Keano and Rio to OT.
