Prolifik Tactics

We will continue to rely on our possession game, looking to move the ball quickly through midfield and feed our attacking trio in space to do what they do best. This starts with our entire back five being excellent on the ball, and we have now reconstituted the GOAT possession midfield in Xavi, Busquets, and Iniesta, with Di Stéfano playing a similar role to false nine Messi.

Di Stéfano frequently drops deep to supplement the midfield, creating space for Stoichkov to make runs in behind cutting in from his nominal left wing role. Garrincha plays as more of an orthodox wide forward who relentlessly attacks the opposition left-back, but will occasionally drift infield to get into goalscoring positions as he did at the 1962 World Cup.

Djalma is the more conservative of the full-backs, while Facchetti covers the left flank with constant overlapping runs to provide width, combining with Stoichkov and/or Iniesta as they both alternative moving into that space on the left.

Out of possession, we will play high up the pitch and try to constrict the opponent's time and space. Again, it starts with our mobile and athletic back five, with Van Dijk and Alisson in particular being experts at managing a high defensive line. Our midfield trio is well versed in the art of the high press, and Di Stéfano offers tremendous work-rate as well.

Skizzo Tactics

What’s better than four Balon D’or winners in their winning years? Adding a fifth. Luka Modric slides into the midfield and Nedved moves wide left to offer his power and industry from the flank, cutting inside and operating out wide.

With the opposition boasting a Barca trio in midfield, and operating in a high-press system, we have two of the best midfielders at operating on the turn, and being able to take a touch and escape pressure. We have ball players from deep who can find passes to break the lines and attack at pace, and we have forwards who will put in a shift defensively and run themselves into the ground for the cause.

The defense can keep it compact at the back and look to limit space, and spring forward attacks with Cafu on the overlap, and passes through the lines to the midfield to find Scholes to ping balls over the top, or Modric to drift between the lines, or Nedved and Best to get the ball at their feet. Benzema up top to work the channels and link play, and has already had success against a Van Dijk/Allison duo.

A mishmash of tactics from Prolifik. Garrincha is not really a possession game player. And that defense wouldn't be high enough to effectively play possession game. It's just off tactically.

More cohesive team from Skizzo. Not sure why he needs Modric and Nedved. Just drop Modric, play Nedved there and get a more attacking/goal scoring wide forward or winger.

Giving this to Skizzo.

Edgar is right that Garrincha doesn't fit the style now Xavi is there. That said I'm not sure it is fatal.

prefered the team with Tigana rather then Xavi, yes the latter makes the greatest midfield ever made but attack and star player isnt the best fit for that change.

How come? He’s got Alisson who is one of the best of all in enabling a high line. Same for Van Dijk. While Facchetti, Nesta and Djalma all have plenty of pace to pull it off.

There’s a lack of goalscoring wingers in the 30+ range that aren’t blocked, so decided Modric in the middle with Nedved wide is better than Nedved in the middle and a lackluster option wide like last round.

Modric is probably the best CM in this age range for me, especially looking for someone to break the lines here against a high-press midfield. Plus having Nedved wide left adds another body that will run the channels and work on and off the ball which would be what we need to break the press and push into the final third.

It's not just pace, but experience in playing a highly specialized style. Like when we player Rio vs Torres and it sucked. Neither Djalma or Garrincha really suit the tactics, imo.

I would be interested to know what makes playing in a high defensive line more specialised than, say, the role Carlos Alberto is playing in GE's team. Not many great defenders will have actually played in that system in real life, but I don't see anything in their skill sets that prevents Djalma, Nesta, or Facchetti from pulling it off.

Also not sure why Garrincha playing in a possession-based team is suddenly a problem when it's been my approach since the start of the tournament.

There's possession and a Xavi possession team. I just think he is the exact wrong player for Garrincha.
