Sjor Tactics

Ajax DNA
No need for further explanation think we all know their philosophy and way of playing football. Here playing in formation that made LVG famous, with very flexible players on the pitch it can easily transform into many other formation but most important its very fluid in the defensive phase where both Davids and Winter can easily cover the fullback position when needed as well as Wouters dropping deeper as emergency centerback. Team full of hardwork players with great teamwork.

Going forwards everything is set up for Cruyff to do his thing but even though all others will be happy for him to lead, all attackers can create on their own and win a game with a moment of brilliance.

Michaelf7 Tactics

My team will play a 5-3-2 formation. Looking at the defence drafted by Sjor my attackers (particularly Di Stefano and Kempes) should be enough to secure victory. Descriptions of the accomplishments of my players during the chosen peaks will follow:

  • World Soccer World XI (1983)

  • 4th highest goalscorer in Serie A (1985/86) (Highest scoring Serie A season by a defender in the 20th Century)
  • Guerin Sportivo Serie A Average Ratings (Source including following page) (1983/84: 6.68 (4= among foreign players behind Platini, Zico and Falcao and equal with Brady; 1984/85: 6.34; 1985/86: 6.68 (2nd best Foreign player behind Boniek) (Note: References to foreign players is because the stats were sourced from an edition looking at foreign players in Serie A from 1980 to 1987)
  • Fiorentina fan, writer Giancarlo Rinaldi describes Passarella's 1985/86 season for Fiorentina as follows:
He had no finer campaign, though, than his final one with the club when it felt like every time he stood over a free-kick or a penalty it was guaranteed to find the back of the net. In addition, he was an aerial danger whenever others took a set piece that resulted in a cross. More often than not he would get his head on the ball before his fellow defenders in the opposition side. That made him something of a lethal weapon in attack as well as being able to stop opponents from finding the net at the other end of the pitch. A natural leader, he was a star from beginning to end of his time in Florence but never more so than in a golden campaign when he showed his attacking team-mates how to do their job – with a goal haul that none of them could come anywhere close to matching.

M7 is set up well defensively to not concede but I'm not convinced they will score either. Wouters is nicely positioned to fully focus on Di Stefano. Maybe set up for Cruyff to sneak a win?

A bit odd to see Di Stefano without some proper wingers, I think it will work. Well built team from M7.

Cruyff aside, a bit of a novelty team from Sjor with players you don't usually see in drafts. Kudos to hi to taking the unorthodox path. M7's tactics do help him a lot as there's no one to exploit the lack of defensive width.

Still the expansive play of Kempes and Teves backed by an otherwise sound team will get the win for M7, imo.

regarding mike team, its brilliant defensive wise but if i manage to control di stefano a bit and my tactics and personel help me a lot there, he could be in trouble offensive wise to light a spark.

front two is lovely but front two without much wing presence is food and drinks for back 3.

luigi and cambiasso are brilliant but they wont trouble you much in the final third.

also, perfumo should play centrally he isnt a wide cb and its not ideal for samuel either though i can buy him.
zabaleta isnt a wingback

Michael team isn't ideal (Zabaleta as wingback) and there is not much wing presence so it plays right into Sjor tactics. But am just pretty sceptical De Ligt can handle Kempes/Tevez duo in both direction (with Di Stefano behind). Will probably often be disrupted and forced to go long.. and I actully really rate De Ligt, you can argue he even played his best football in Ajax shirt so age doesn't matter

nobody rates tevez higher then me and he can destroy any defender let alone a young(but brilliant) de ligt but they are not 1v1 so if anything he would more be against chivu, specially as he would be often assigned to wide the attack as there is nobody else there.
+ they will always have one in protection.

mike has a lovely team but if i could have picked an opponent tactical wise that would be this.
