Four English Premiership clubs will take part in next season's Champions League competition, European football's governing body UEFA said on Friday.
The recent success of Premiership clubs in Europe -- which includes Manchester United lifting the Champions' League trophy in 1999, and Liverpool winning the UEFA Cup last season -- has catapulted England above Germany in the latest rankings.
UEFA confirmed that Spain topped the rankings, which decide on the number of teams from each league to play in each competition.
The rankings are based on results for the previous five seasons, from 1996/97 to the 2000/01 seasons.
England finished just behind Italy, yet because they finished in third place they were awarded the extra place at the expense of the Bundesliga.
UEFA Chief Executive Gerhard Aigner said: "This system guarantees transparency in our qualifying system for European competitions and ensures that qualification combines the twin measures of international and domestic success."
Us above Germany eh? hahaha!
