Did anybody else think we would be playing with three CB's against Leeds when they saw the team on Saturday?.

I know this has been banded about on here a few times, but I actually think it could of worked the other day with the midfielders we had out.

Mickey and PNev would be good as wing-backs, Butty holding the midfield, Becks in the centre where he has always wanted to play. giggs behind the front two, but also offering width when needed.

I don't think it was a 3-5-2. It started out with O'Shea as right back in a back four, with Phil and Butt in centre mid, and Beckham wide right. When Butt came off injured, Beckham moved inside to centre mid with Chadwick on the right.

However I do think there is something in your idea and I'd like to see one day, in a cup game, the following side and shape.

...........Barthez

......O'Shea Rio Blanc
Gary........Butt........Mickey
.....Becks.......Veron
.......Ruud.......Ole

Obviously when Keane, Scholes and Brown are back it would have to change with Butt making way for Keane and Veron making way for Scholes, and Blanc for Brown and swapping places with O'Shea.

Against Leeds O'Shea played right back with Mickey left back.

I don't think we have the material for a 3-5-2/5-3-2 formation. Tbh I believe Mickey is the only one in our squad who is suited as a wing back. Gary isn't good enough offensive and I also don't believe he's capable of running that much. If so I believe that both Brown and Phil are better suited for wing back role than Gary.

Maybe you're right about Brown being more suited to it.
