With the injury list growing & the 2nd leg aaginst bayer on Tuseday, who do u think should start against Ipswich ?

We need to risk injuries, and play a strong team - a) because the league might still be a possiblity, and b) because a good win might boost our confidence for Tuesday.

Do u think that Keane should take part n what will be a make or break game 4 Ipswich ?....Actually Ipswich has a good deciplinary recrod,,but n such crucial games, all kinds of tackles r expected.

If he's fit he should play - we keep hearing that players need games to get fit, and we don't want him unfit for Tuesday.

And I didn't realise that he's on a yellow card....... <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

Btw : Why the game is a late kick off ? I thought that teams having games n midweek should get more rest instead of playing late.

I think I prefer to know the Liverpool result before they know ours.

Livvie - I don't think we are short of confidence...we are short of fit players. Its time for Fergie to take one of his tough decisions (as featured on Ch 4 recently) and recognise that Saturday is a lesser priority.

I agree that it's time for SAF to make a tough decision but I disagree that Ipswich is a lesser priority. Anything could happen in poo & arse's last 3 games, unlikely, but it could, so Fergie is at an impasse tbh.

On one hand, he can't assume poo & arse are gonna win all their games so a win at Ipswich is paramount if he wants to regain the Prem, on the other hand, a win on Tuesday and we are at Glasgow so a weekend of rest may do some players good.

It's a tricky situation but if it were me as Manager, I'd play the strongest 11 and then sub out whenever I can.

I wouldn't be able to deal with it if I started a weakened team, dropped two or three points then later, poo & arse do the same!

Remember all the stuff earlier in the season about how this team needs to win again in Europe ?
Even given another three years Fergie can't bank on getting a better chance of reaching the final...90 mins to play, all square etc. Its a tough call, but full strength at Ipswich is the wrong call.

I would play with the strongest possible team, with 5 midfielders--Veron, Butt and Keane if possible in the center, Scholes kind of center right, and Giggs kind of a roaming withdrawn player. Let Veron drive the team forward, Nicky work in front of the back 4, and then attack big time. If this works well, which I think it will, utilize it against Bayer away.

Sweet, wouldn't have been able to make it if it was regular  <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

i think he should experiment and put Forlan on the right wing.
No..wait..it'd look like Poborsky wouldnt it.
scratch that, give him a hair cut, then stick him on the wing

Totally agree.

We must win against Ipswich, I could never feel happy with United giving up on the league until it was a mathematical certainty that it was beyond us. Nothing has changed in that regard over the last 3 matches, the points differential between the top 3 is as finely balanced as ever and we still only need them to slip up once each to let us back in.

Injuries will necessitate some team changes but I would field the best we have available to kill the match off quickly and then withdraw those most in need of a rest. Besides we are more likely to Traveller ourselves and aggrevate injuries chasing a game with a weakened squad than bossing one with the best team in the league.

As such I would start with:

Barthez

Brown O Shea Blanc Silvestre

Scholes Keane Butt Giggs

Solskjaer van Nistelrooy

Then when the points are safe replace Keane, Giggs and van Nistelrooy with Stewart, P Neville or Chadwick if he has proved his fitness and Forlan to maintain a threat and keep the pressure off our back line. I wouldn’t risk Veron as his injury means he is not operating at 100% anyway but prefer a more solid back four with Brown moving to the right and O Shea returning rather than drafting in Denis or Phil who may make us more vulnerable than we want.

Whole heartedly agree with you Bury Red. Arsenal need just one slip to let us in, and the Scouse wankers still have to come up against Teddy and Andy Cole in their next two games. We must go for ther win, play our strongest team and, hopefully, get two or three goals up before thinking of resting anyone. Team:
Barthez
Irwin Brown Blanc Silvestre
Scholes Butt Keane Veron
Solskjaer Van Nistelrooy

PS... Imagive we play a reserve side at Ipswich, scramble a 1-1 draw then see the Arse fuc***d by Bolton on Monday night. How sick would we be feeling after that?

theres no way SAF would risk playing a very under strength side, but with the injuries we have any side will be under strength. It looks like Blanc won't play, G.Nev is out, so that makes room for two from Irwin, P.Nev and O'Shea.
I also think Ruud could do with a rest before tuesday, he looked a bit knackered on wed, but that didn't stop him running around like a blue arse fly (nice one ruud). I also reckon Keane will be rested/stopped from damaging himself, he might play a half for fitness.
Barthez
Neville Brown Silvestre Irwin
Scholes Butt Keane(Veron) Giggs
RVN(Forlan) Solskjaer

David May is going to play! <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" />

So its --
------------Barthez ------

PNeville ---OShea -- Brown -- Silvestre

Scholes ---- Butt --- Keane ---Giggs

-------Ole ---- Rudd

I have not included Phil as he was taken off on Wednesday .. .

Soccernet says that Barthez is injured and Ruud has aggravated his achilles:

United must do without more than half of their first team at Ipswich as Laurent Blanc, Juan Sebastian Veron and Fabien Barthez have joined David Beckham, Gary Neville and Ronny Johnsen on the injured list.

In the Frenchman's absence, Ferguson will play the relatively inexperienced duo of Wes Brown and John O'Shea at centre-half.

Fabien Barthez has a rib injury and Roy Carroll will deputise for him in goal, while Veron has suffered a recurrence of his Achilles trouble.

One plus for United is the return to fitness of skipper Roy Keane and the Irishman will start his first game since April 2.

No Barthez, Blanc, Johnsen, G. Neville, Beckham, or Yorke (he's probably going to be linked to Rushden & Diamonds next), so line-up has to be:

--------------Carroll---------------
Phil-----O'Shea-----Brown---Silvestre
---------Keane------Butt------------
Scholes-----------------------Giggs
---------Solskjaer----Forlan-------

RVN needs a rest, and United can do without him. There's no point wasting Irwin (he's running out of fuel fast), and Veron should probably play 45 in for Keane, unless they're not doing well in the first half.

i'll play on the right some place. i'm 43 w/ a bad hammie but what the hell.

i didn't read anything about ruud being hurt. jeez , do MU have 11.
