The porto defender is being linked with a move to Liverpool. Porto have just recently signed Sandro from Santos, so maybe there's some truth in the rumours.

Any of our portugese posters able to shed some light on the validity of the rumours and how good this guy is?

I wonder if his name translates to 'Aldi Bargain'?

He's known as Álvaro Pereira, not Barragan.

I like him, and I also think there is some validity to the rumours of him leaving, considering we just paid 9 million Euro for Alex Sandro. Good crosser, very attack oriented, his positioning is not that great defensively.

Ahh, I was wondering who it was

He's doing quite well with Uruguay at the Copa America although he's playing in midfield. He did against Chile anyway as Caceres was at left back

Yeah hadn't a clue who this Barragan bloke was, Pereira makes sense. Effective, reasonably young and versatile so he'll do a good job as a squad player for them. Seen him play as a centre mid and left mid but surely he'd be bought as a left back primarily, good squad player but not sure I'd be disappointed if he was brought in as their first choice left back.

Porto have done a great bit of business to bring in both Danilo and Alex Sandro for reasonable fees.

Someone change the thread's title to Alvaro Pereira please!

I first noticed him while playing PES with Cluj. I remember thinking "Porto can't find a decent left-back for ages and there's such a good Portuguese one here in Cluj". I thought he was Portuguese because Pereira is a very common name in Portugal and Cluj were packed with low profile Portuguese players at the time. I was playing against a Benfiquista mate and a few weeks after he woke me up ecstaticly laughing because Benfica was going to sign him. As usual Porto stole him from under their nose.

He also did well in the World Cup, playing in the midfield IIRC.

Porto spent 22 million euros on both, with Danilo only coming 6 months or an year from now. At 13 million euros he's the 2nd most expensive purchase from the history of Portuguese football (first one being Hulk, though Hulk we bought only half his pass first and the rest an year or so later, unlike now). For full-backs they are extremely expensive for our usual patterns and being both so young and with an unpredictable adaptation to European football I think it's quite a risky and unusual business.

I heard Danilo can be a midfielder as well, but he better be very good at that price.
