Seems stupid, but it genuinely wouldn't shock me. And it would surely send United further into decline as the top available players go elsewhere.

Ducker, meanwhile, said a week or so ago that United would make 'significant' transfer funds available to Ten Hag and co, even without CL football, to fund the latest rebuild.

Not necessarily a bad thing. Depends if you want players that will do a job and solve our issues on the pitch or if you want shiny spangled star big name signings.
Money will also be raised from a few sales hopefully. As ever with this kind of story a pinch of salt is necessary.
What it should do is temper any expectations if a radical squad overhaul which just isn’t on the cards.
 
Doubt it’s true but it’s better saying we don’t have money than the ‘250m war chest’ nonsense that gets spouted every year which only means clubs can fleece crazy money out of us for average players.

Another source has indicated that agents have been told that United are after a striker, RW and two midfielders this summer.

£20 million will barely get you half a decent player these days.

The story is obviously not true but only having £20 million to spend would absolutely be a bad thing. It'd be a terrible thing because we need about 5 new players.

Probably not far off it, the three of those are earning a total of at least 500k pw which is 26m per year.....

You need about three new attacking players for a start and completely regenerate the midfield so that's going to cost 150-200m to fix unless you just turn into Juventus of last decade and gobble up some decent players on freebies.

Guess you'll have to raise some cash by selling players but even that's not obvious as can't sell Pogba for anything now and likes of Mata, Bailly and Lingard won't bring in much.
 
Write a negative story about United, quote ‘sources at the club’, rinse & repeat.

Nonsense, We will have funds from sales also. Broadcasting how much we have to spend is insane anyway. We need 4/5 players in this summer, and we need to find the money for this rebuild.

Yeah I don't buy it. I'm pretty sure its just the club trying to mitigate the 'United tax' effect that fleeces us every transfer window.
 
Clearly it won't be twenty million, but I do think it will be significantly reduced without CL football. It has to be, it's a significant chunk of our finances taken out. That's why everyone wants to get in the CL, it's nothing to do with winning it or prestige, it's the bottom line they're concerned with.

We'll have to produce a very sensible summer. Shift a few people, lose some wages to free up finance, target people that are underpriced in the market - which is incredibly hard when you're known as a big spender.

It will be less than most think as usual but the press don't have a clue.
 
This is hilarious, it’s like something a child would do, after Woodward saying we can spend £100m’s Murdock comes out and says we can only spend 2p.

It's likely true. However, £20m is probably net of sales and transfers are amortised. You can have a budget of £20m and sign players for £100m
You just need to look at our accounts. High payables, low receivables and not a kot of cash in the bank.
Arsenal had a similar budget the summer they signed Pepe for £72m.
 
Actually couldn't care less if it means funds then have to be raised by the mother of all clear outs, combined with astute signings of players who actually have ambition

He is a clueless journalist. He has already started with the "Players are not happy".

I am not sure if you saw it, I read somewhere he said Ajax players are not happy that Blind is being picked because of his name, same will happen with Ronaldo.
