Expectation in August: battling with Liverpool and Spurs for 3rd/4th
Expectation in December: battling with Spurs and Villa for 5th
Expectation in March: battling with Chelsea and Newcastle for 6th/7th
Reality: battling with West Ham for 8th.
Next season: battling with Palace and Brighton for top 10.
Been a shit season but you don’t half sensationalise things. Really weird when there’s no need to.

We finished level on points with Newcastle in 7th. 8 points ahead of West Ham.

We were indeed battling it out with Newcastle and Chelsea.

Fine margins. Every reason to expect that had our injuries not been so bad we could have got 4th.
And had we not been so lucky we could have finished 14th. You know we should have finished lower on merit, so why accuse others of overplaying how bad we’ve been when in fact it’s the table that’s underplaying it?

You think our 8th place is a point in his defence? Okay then.
Im reasonably confident that with a much lessor injury crisis we make up at least 9 points which would have gotten 4th.

Mind you, I’m not sure it’s still a good season even in that scenario.

Points wise yes. Performance wise we joined the battle to play like a top half team quite a while ago.

I agree but as ever in here, there is a fair amount of exaggeration going on.
Where is the exaggeration? We have been terrible whether you look at the points, goals difference, advanced stats or the eye test. In fact advanced stats tell you that we are even worse than our total points but we can ignore that and stick to your initial point, the table doesn't lie and it says that we have been terrible when you put it in context and realize that we have a better squad than that and our performances were far from what should be expected.

We do have a better squad which we’ve barely been able to utilise due to injuries yes.

The season was defined by the persistent injuries and the manager being tactically inept, overall I feel 8th probably flatters us slightly.

Absolutely nothing, don't pay attention to him. I pointed out it's been a poor season, which it has, and now he thinks posters are exaggerating.
I figured. I've seen his posts on another topic. Nothing is ever wrong anywhere

I feel he’s been dealt a bad hand this season with injuries, but to be this bad on performances throughout the season is ridiculous. Was there any game this entire season where we look dominant for the full 90? In fact, I don’t think we have ever won by more than 3goal margin in any game under ETH.
Well today was only the 5th? time we've won by more than a single goal difference.

West Ham home, Sheffield Home, Everton home and away and today.

I hope you melts who want him to stay are miserable when his sacking is announced. You have zero standards for this club.

It absolutely does lie. If anything, it flatters us. We were absolutely not the 8th best team in the Premier League this season.
Exactly. I remember several narrow, labored, and lucky last min wins against bottom-tier sides. Gave us a few extra points - I rate us 10th or 11th.

But that’s ignoring the fact that all statistic measures show that our final position greatly flatters our performances. If we account for the hypothetical possibility of fewer injuries, we also have to account for the possibility that luck and margins won’t fall as kindly to us next season.

I believe INEOS doesn't want to destabilize anything right now before the FA Cup - but once it's over, I fully expect them to be ruthless.

I don't think I agree with that. I think if Newcastle and Chelsea didn't have such bad injuries either, the table would have looked quite similar albeit with all three teams with more points.

The table doesn't lie but it does omit a lot. The goal difference tells its own story too. Newcastle scoring 85 goals (!) should finish higher than 7th.

Standards have never been lower in this club it's an absolute joke that there are people still back in this manager he's consistently delivered poor football all season hasn't had any backup plans and seems to injure all of our players and training he's an absolute liability and if you want it to stay at the club you're accepting below past standards and eight is apparently acceptable for the big Manchester United get a grip.

Apart from finishing 8th with -1GD with over 400 million spent as manager on players and no play style.

Not getting any type of European qualification is a sackable offense.

Surely there has to be a clause in his contract that you can sack at very low compensation.

Failed to meet objectives and failed badly.

Yeah, we need a fresh set of players that can be injured by the coaching staff.
Well I also hope there is a complete overhaul, but if we keep players who are constantly injured, they will likely still be constantly injured whoever is in charge. We will not know what is going to happen until after the cup final, so we might as well wait with bated breath.
