Nah, not quite. Ole's final season was the worst
Also the worst injuries. The worst.
Not quite and Ole did not even finish it (neither should ETH if it wasn’t for our incompetence).

I think that Ole was a bad manager and him not coaching the squad should have been a sackable offense by itself.

But I just do not see how EtH is a better coach than pretty much anyone. What has he done to be called a good coach? I’ve seen team that cost less than Antony come and play circle around us at Old Trafford. I’ve seen him being out coached by literal dinosaurs like Roy Hodgson from all people. This EtH is a good coach seems more like a wishful thinking and then saying it too many times in the hope that everyone starts believing rather than being grounded in reality.
There's a huge recency bias when it comes to evaluating Ten Hag (and most coaches it seems). One admittedly very bad season doesn't make someone outright a bad coach

And a cup.

And it only took him one season
Ole would have probably had 2 cups if we didn't draw City in the Semi-finals twice. Same reason Ten Hag will probably lose two Cup Finals. So I wouldn't put too much stock in that cup win.

And if you are going to give him so much praise for 75 points last season then questions (of Ten Hag, not injuries, structures etc) have to be asked why he's going to fail to match that by 10-15 points this season.

Yes, quite. If Ten Hag can't beat 58 points, then its our worst season in history. If he does, it's not.
It's really not that hard to understand, I don't know why you struggle so much with points. Moreover, I didn't say Ole finished the season. I just said it was his last season, and he fecked the squad so bad it was irrecoverable.

Well he has had 1 good season in his entire career as you already indicated we cannot use his Ajax time as real experience.

Given his form of choking to lesser teams in the cup irrespective (say, Leicester for example), I think this idea of Ole winning 2 hypothetical cups is presumptuous to say the least.

Shame he is not getting lot of criticism for one of the worst performance in CL group stage. Combine that with pathetic league performance, it's a miracle he is still in job.

If he reduced his wage demands, I suspect there’d be suitors in the Dutch league. I imagine Bayern fans aren’t too pleased about being linked with him. He might have done well with their B team but signing a failed manager would seem like a crazy move, albeit not out of question with the recent decisions their hierarchy have made.
No doubt buy we're paying him like an Elite manager.

No, I didn't. I actually said twice to you that they are not completely irrelevant. Here it is for a third time - please read posts better.

Well we are 4 points away still, so let’s see. Not sure we can get those 4 points, or finish higher than 6th.

He’s already led us to the worst CL campaign in this century though, and the worst any big club has had.

Great. So he hasn't had the worst season in PL history. Feel free to post it if he does, I won't argue.

Please paste a link to your source of Ten Hag‘s training methods causing the injuries.
From the Athletic back to last August.

Under Ten Hag, while those to have started or played a significant amount of minutes off the bench take part in recovery work the day after United’s matches, win, lose or draw, the rest of the squad are made to complete a session of high-intensity fitness drills. Again, there is a lot of running.

...

Some of those on the fringes last season who often found themselves in Ten Hag’s “matchday plus one” sessions would describe them as brutal — not just the hardest of the week
but some of the hardest that they had experienced in football.
If you play the same tune over and over and over again, don't you think that becomes a problem? A thing that may have done well last year could also not work so well this year. Even if the finger can be pointed to the medical staff, Ten Hag has to carry his share of the burden because of the attrition he created himself. It's the manager's job TO ADAPT to the situation.

Apologies. They were not proper experience (hence he needs a few more years in PL) but all the achievements count and are quite important indeed. Now I believe I get it.

By a point
In a different season. Which is a ridiculous take.

By the same logic, Mourinho in 17-18 (81 points) when we did not even challenge beat SAF on 2010-2011 season (when we comfortably won the title with 80 points).

Hooray to Mourinho, the unsung hero.

Will be quite a race for ETH to now possibly not have the worst season in PL history. Exciting times. If he goes perfect until end of season he might actually outdo Moyes’ season and be a true hero.

I think the main problem that people are glossing over is our GD, You can forgive a bad season because of injuries but having a combined +16 GD over 2 epl seasons as United is a shit show and I will not be surprised if we end this season with a negative GD (with Palace and Arsenal next up). Of course that leads in to our style of play and the managers adaptability.

But Ole had only one very bad season (still better than this one) and you would call him a bad coach, right?

How did he get to so many Semi-finals then?

Oles bad season wasn't better than this, and yes I do call him a bad coach. He didn't have the same level of injuries, he had more windows to fix the squad and he had a lot more time to transcend our play from pure counter attacking football. He failed in all facets of this but what really annoyed me was how he let the levels drop in professionalism.

Our CL perfromances alone should have seen him given the boot. He only survived that period because of the takeover process.

Ten Hag has hit 3 finals at Man Utd in 2 seasons. Shall I give him 3 hypothetical cups? What sort of stupid game is this

We are likely gonna end with fewer points than Ole/Rangnick season. If that happens, we will also have a worse GD. But let’s see.

And we easily passed the group stage of UCL in that campaign, while we finished rock bottom in probably the easiest group ever this season.

Ole didn’t have a structure so I’m not sure we can judge his time at United too harshly.

You have to give him credit.

He said in his talk with Gary Neville the structure was fine. Var is a load of bs excuse. Sell or don’t play the toxics out them to the fans. Media abuse is because we are playing fecking shite. The ”abuse” with the amount of money spent is warranted. Whether he bought the players or not. Buy Rice not Mount is one example.

Indeed, you could pick any aspect of the complete and utter failure this season has been and possibly use it to justify changing managers. When you combine them all, he really shouldn't be here next season.

They're getting desperate they may have to. Ralf just rejected them and he was another failure here.
Well that's a fair point actually.

Things are getting desperate for them if they're turning to the likes of Ralf Rangnick and Erik Ten Hag.

He's likely going to lose 2 of them to City, The same reason Ole lost 2 semi finals. That's the point.

Luck of the draw.

It’s incredible how much context his disciples are ready to take into account when it comes to injuries and that elusive “structure” (even they don’t know what they actually mean when they say it), yet the context of us having had the easiest draw in history in the league cup winning run, and being piss-poor and extremely lucky to even be eighth right now, is apparently not relevant.

If injuries are anything ETH related he won’t last beyond FA cup final. But it’s weird his coaching didn’t cause these issues last year
It's obviously a build up of playing loads last year and this year's crazy set up that it's catching up with the players.

Someone here literally claimed that if we win FA cup we have a better season than pool! Just figure how ridiculous the standard and metric some have.

It is actually interesting to point that they all know deep down that it’s a second rate trophy because they literally never ever mention its actual name in these debates. It’s always merely ‘a cup’ or ‘a trophy’.

True.

And it is not a second rate trophy. A second rate trophy are Europa and FA Cup.

It is a third rate trophy, same as Conference League.

We need 4pts in 3games to *not* have that scenario, but yeah OK.

I think the worst season in our PL history is ironically Ole's last where he fecked the squad with so much player power no interim coach could implement any discipline. This season we're poor - with a feckton of injuries and no operating structure. Back to your absolute nonsense point though - Ole had 3 years, Ten Hag has only had 2. So no, I do not think Ole should have had more time :wenger:
So Ole had an operating structure that helped him but eth didn't? How does this work?

OK my friend I should not have been rude in my tone so I retract that. But my point is Ole can't really be given 2 cups hypothetically just because he faced City, when he had form for exiting to beatable teams nonetheless.

I am, because Ten Hag got the job done. Even when Ole would beat say, Liverpool, he'd go on to lose to Leicester (or was it Wolves) later on. I can't really remember the exact route but not all of Ole's cup exits were to Manchester City.
