    That is so true. Up until that final, we were right up there in the league, the performances were good and we were scoring goals. That should have been the moment when we kicked on, but instead the club has gone backwards. I often wonder if the win against Newcastle did more harm than good.

    He needs at least two windows. I’m hoping that that he knows what he needs and that we’ll see steady improvement. Have we got the cash to back him? I don’t think we have sadly and I’m struggling to see a way forward for him or the club. I really don’t know what can happen to lift us out of this hole.

    It’s possibly worse than the 86/87 team. The following year we were half decent after signing Brian McClair, but after the collapse that followed winning the first ten games of the season in 85, I thought that was as bad as it could ever be to be a United supporter. I was wrong.

    I was so optimistic before the season began and now I just can’t be arsed. It’s that bad. I can’t believe Ten Hag has been given a contract extension. I’m not sure where we go from here. I don’t expect us to beat Southampton.
