Manchester born and have always lived in Greater Manchester, apart from a few years away as a student at Stoke-on-Trent.
Have supported United since becoming interested in football when I was eight years old. First time I saw United on TV was winning the 1963 F.A. Cup Final. First match at Old Trafford was in November 1963, the day after Kennedy's assassination, when United lost 1-0 to Liverpool. Used to stand on the Stretford end as a youngster, now a season ticket holder in East Stand Upper Tier.
My great uncle, Jack Fitchett, played for United in the first season as Manchester United, in 1902/03 up until 1905. He also played for England when they beat Germany 10-0 in an international match at Hyde Road in 1901. He also played for the Football League, Bolton Wanderers, Plymouth Argyle, Fulham and Southampton. Later he became a comedy actor with Fred Karno's troupe, appearing alongside Charlie Chaplin and afterwards became a theatre manager in Exeter and Plymouth.
So, my family have been United supporters ever since the club started in its present guise as Manchester United.
