Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, commonly known as Wolves or The Wanderers, is an English professional football club based in the city of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. The club were founded as St. Luke's in 1877 by John Baynton and John Brodie, after a group of pupils at St Luke's Church school in Blakenhall had been presented with a football by their headmaster Harry Barcroft. Two years later, they merged with local cricket and football club The Wanderers, to form Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club then became one of the twelve founders of the English Football League in 1888 and finished the inaugural season in a creditable third place, as well as reaching their first ever FA Cup Final, losing 3–0 to the first Double winners, Preston North End.

The club spent 33 years in the top flight from 1932 to 1965, their longest continuous period at that level (albeit league football was in hiatus from 1939 to 1946 due to World War II). During the 1950s, the club was English league champions three times (1953–54, 1957–58 & 1958–59), whilst under the management of Stan Cullis. Wolves has also finished runners-up in the league on five occasions (most recently in 1959–60) and in third place on a further six occasions (most recently in 1960–61). On the domestic cup front, they have won the FA Cup four times, most recently in 1960, and has finished runners-up on a further four occasions, and the Football League Cup twice, in 1974 and 1980.

Wolves have long-standing rivalries with other West Midlands clubs; the main one is with West Bromwich Albion, against whom they contest the Black Country derby and with whom Wolves has played more league fixtures (146) than any other football opponent, even though the two clubs have not met in a league fixture since 2011–12 (the last season they competed in the same division as each other). Wolves also share rivalries with the two Birmingham clubs, Aston Villa and Birmingham City, though they are much further away than West Bromwich. They play their homes games at the Molineux Stadium, the first stadium ever built for use by a Football League club and one of the first British grounds to have floodlights installed and it hosted some of the earliest European club games in the 1950s.

    Probably will be something like:

    De Gea

    Valencia Lindelof Smalling Shaw
    Fellaini
    Fred Pogba
    Lingard Lukaku Sanchez

Main question mark being over the replacement for Matic. I think Fellaini and Pogba will definitely start but the third midfielder is up in the air.

    Team should be...

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Valencia--Smalling-- Lindelof--Shaw
    ---------------Fellaini---------------
    -------Pereira-------Pogba-------
    Lingard-------Lukaku-------Martial

Subs: Grant, Delot, Bailly, Fred, Mata, Sanchez, Rashford

This has got horrible result written all over it, Wolves down the years always give us problems

    Velancia - Smalling - Lindelof - Shaw

Still banned but other than that your spot on.

Martial should be keeping his place Sanchez has done nothing to warrant a start.

This will be an exciting game. Wolves are a great team when they get going. Matic will be a big loss.

First game of the season for me and first ever game that my dad is attending. Really looking forward to it!

Will be a tough game but hopefully we continue this winning run. Think the team will be -

    De Gea

    Valencia
    Smalling
    Lindelof
    Shaw

    Fred
    Fellaini
    Pogba

    Lingard
    Lukaku

    Young
    Pereira
    Mata

Hope you both enjoy it! No better way to have some quality time.

This is what I'd go for but I am pretty sure Fred and Sanchez will play over Pereira and Martial.

    I want to see this:

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Dalot--Smalling-- Lindelof--Shaw
    ---------------Fellaini---------------
    ---------Fred----------Pogba-------
    Sanchez-------Lukaku-------Martial

Would like to see Dalot and Martial given a league start, with Sanchez moved out to the right.

I think Jose will play this:

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Valencia--Smalling-- Lindelof--Shaw
    ---------------Fellaini---------------
    ---------Fred----------Pogba-------
    Lingard-------Lukaku-------Sanchez

Jose likely to play Valencia and Lingard, giving Dalot and Martial minutes in the second half and starts against Derby.

This is going to be an interesting game, can't see Wolves parking the bus. They will come at us, wonder what our midfield will be. Martial fanboys getting carried away with his deflected goal. Sanchez and Jesse will be back. 3.1 United win

Id like fellaini pogba fred in middle.

Our next 3 games are all must wins. Could be far closet than people think if we win all 3

The date in the first post is wrong.
I saw Monday 3pm and was wondering why it was a holiday.

I don't think Wolves will score. Their finishing is awful and they have a non-scoring striker. Although he's scored twice.

We can't afford to let them settle and start pressing. Giving Neves and Moutinho time on the ball would be suicidal.

We play champions league on wednesday and premier league can't move this game to Sunday? That's sad.

    ——————-De Gea———————

    Dalon—Smalling- lindelof—-Shaw-

    ——————-Fellaini———————-

    ————Pogba——-Herrera————

    -Martial——--Lukaku———Sanchez

Looks like they play a back 3 which becomes a back 5 really quickly. Really good results from them so far this season but I'll confess that I've only watch the 2 minute highlight clips of their games. In attack, they seem to use the width of the field very well and play measured diagonal balls into the pockets of the defense as their strikers, and then midfielders make those runs. Ultimately I think we'll have plenty enough on the field to handle this team but I agree it could be a tough one if Wolves are able to bring the same intensity that's helped them beat the Hammers and Burnley recently.

Nice to have a home game, I expect us to win it with a good performance to boot.

While Martial did score against Young Boys, I'm not sure it's enough for him to start over say Sanchez or Lingard on Saturday. I expect both to come back in. The same goes for Dalot - it was a good debut, but I think he's almost certain to be replaced by Valencia. The midfield will definitely include Fellaini from the start, which is probably why he didn't start the Young Boys fixture. So, the only question is who replaces Matic? It'll most likely be Fred, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Herrera or Pereira given the chance. The thing is, these kinds of players in our squad get the chance on Tuesday against Derby anyway. I doubt Matic will be put in from the start in the League Cup, he'll just have the extra game off.

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Fred Fellaini Pogba
    Lingard
    Lukaku Sanchez

Martial is almost guaranteed a substitute appearance and depending on how the game goes, there are the likes of Mata, Herrera, McTominay, Pereira, Dalot, and Young who will be itching to get on the pitch. Both teams have won their last two games (three for us if we count Europe), so it'll be a good game where both teams have confidence. I expect a somewhat comfortable victory, however. October is a difficult month for us, so we need to make the most of the rest of September with Wolves, Derby, and West Ham being much more manageable opponents.

Not too confident here. We will win, but I dont think it'll be impressive or comfortable. Just not getting the vibe from this one.

This is a good test to see if Jose view Peirera as an alt for Matic. I'd be happy with

    -----------------DDG-------------------
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    ---------------Fellaini-------------
    --------Andres------Pogba-------
    Lingard---------------------Sanchez
    ---------------Lukaku-------------

Sanchez and Lingard should keep their places. They have been part of the improved attacking displays over the past 2 league games and Sanchez always creates chances. Strongly disagree with the calls for Martial to waltz back into the starting XI on the back of a rubbish 45 min followed by a deflected goal against weak opposition.

    Ddg
    Valencia Smalling Bailey Shaw
    Fellaini
    Fred Pogba
    Lingard Lukaku Martial*

*pretty clear Sanchez is probably going to start but I want to see Mourinho show that ruthlessness of his in dropping a clearly poor player. He did it with Rooney after managers failed to do so and he should do it here.
