Real Sociedad de Fútbol, S.A.D., more commonly referred to as Real Sociedad or La Real, is a Spanish professional sports club in the city of San Sebastián, Basque Country. Football was introduced to San Sebastián in the early 1900s by students and workers returning from Britain. In 1904, they formed the San Sebastian Recreation Club and in 1905 the club competed in the Copa del Rey. In May 1905, the San Sebastian Football Club was formed as a separate branch of the club. In 1909, it applied to enter the Copa del Rey but complications over registration permits saw them compete as Club Ciclista de San Sebastián. This team defeated Club Español de Madrid 3–1 in the final. Out of the confusion, the Sociedad de Futbol was formed on 7 September 1909. Subsequently, the club was a founder member of La Liga in 1929.

Traditionally the club followed a policy (similar to that of its rival Athletic) of signing only Basque players, before signing Republic of Ireland forward John Aldridge in 1989. While a strong Basque contingent has been retained among its players, nowadays both non-Basque Spaniards and foreign players are represented at the club. Its youth section subsequent to the all-Basque era has still been very successful in developing internationally renowned players, such as World Cup winners Xabi Alonso and Antoine Griezmann. Real Sociedad won the Liga title in 1980–81 and 1981–82, and last finished runner-up in 2002–03. The club has also won the Copa del Rey twice, in 1909 and 1987. It contests the Basque derby against rivals Athletic Bilbao, and plays its home games at the Anoeta Stadium.

Making assumptions that Bruno & Yoro are fine.

    Onana
Yoro - De Ligt - Heaven
    Mazraoui - Bruno - Casemiro - Dorgu
    Garnacho - Zirkzee - Collyer

This is the season for us basically. If OT is as noisy as it was against Arsenal today then that will be a big positive.

Surely these players are motivated for their season not to end in March? I think we might get done on pens again. We seem to get up for some big games but we just aren’t very good so scoring more than the other team is difficult. Really struggling to see how we win, maybe nick it 2-1 like the Rangers game.

I reckon it will be. Think everyone knows this is the season on the line and the fans will be up for it. Let’s hope the players respond.

Maguire and Ugarte not ready yet?

    Onana
    Mazraoui - de Ligt- Heaven/Yoro
    Dalot- Casemiro - Bruno- Dorgu
    Garnacho- Zirkzee
    Hojlund

7 of this 10 outfield players started today but feels like we don't have many options. Maguire and Ugarte not ready to come back yet it seems. Yoro to start unless he's injured then Heaven. Bruno or if he's not fit then Collyer. Eriksen played 75 minutes today and started at Sociedad so surely can't start another game (which makes you think about Casemiro as well).

Garnacho was good today and surely starts vs Sociedad. Hojlund to start more because we're lacking options.

On the assumption that Maguire and Yoro are out:

    Onana
Dalot De Ligt Lindelof Maz Dorgu
    Casemiro Bruno
    Zirkzee Garnacho
    Hojlund.

Hojlund there because he's basically our only striker. You could put Zirkzee up top like today and shift Bruno to the 10 role and Ugarte in midfield but i'm not sure Amorim will do that.

We need a big atmosphere. No point going on about the glory days of big CL nights, this match is very important for where we are now and really should be no excuse for not doing the job at home against an ordinary team.

There was some decent performances today and Fernandes is playing very well so I hope we start confidently.

Sociedad have only 3 starters tonight from Thursday night. Zubimendi on the bench also

Got into a habit of getting 1-1 draws of late and won't be surprised if another here and if so might get lucky on a penalty shootout this time.

I expect us to be roaring to go from the first minute for this. It's all we have left to play for, a mayor trophy and a ticket to the CL. Also, Amorim mentioned us having to survive today to be ready for Thursday.

I think we did alright in the first leg and if we have Ugarte and Dorgu back, we should be able to dominate them physically.

I hope they are as crap as they were first leg

They just 1-0 to Sevilla , but a weakened side was out. We should be doing the business

Overall European record against Spanish teams in Old Trafford

    Played 34 Won 13 Drew 13 Lost 8 Scored 51 conceded 34

Ruben Amorim: "Leny Yoro has something in his foot. We will see if he is available for Thursday."

I like Bruno in midfield, but Casemiro has found some form, and if Ugarte is back he has the legs to cover him. I don't want to see Hojlund starting and Eriksen probably can't play back to back (Casemiro might not be able to either TBF). Optimistic about this suddenly, a few decent performances and we are definitely a much better team then them when we are up for it, so I think we should be winning this with this team.

I'd like to think we can scrape a win... but we are almost bound to make a catastrophic error at some stage, so who knows

Sociedad looked poor in first leg and it's really a shame we couldn't win that game. Hopefully that won't cost us.

Apparently Sociedad will have Zubimendi back and we know our problems when playing at home. Hopefully the Arsenal game filled players with some confidence and same for fans - will need a good atmosphere definitely.

Biggest question is who plays in midfield. Is Ugarte fit to start the game (or even make the bench) and is Casemiro ready to start after playing 180 minutes in space of 3 days? Eriksen surely isn't. Won't be surprised if it's Collyer in first 11.

Start defensive and make subs to up the tempo

Bring Hojlund, Garnacho & Collyer off the bench against tired legs.

They were crap in the reverse fixture. Dodgy pen got the crowd up and they fed off that.

Play decently and we'll be fine.
