Fotbal Club FCSB (formerly named and still sometimes referred to as FC Steaua București) is a Romanian professional football club based in Bucharest. ASA București (Asociația Sportivă a Armatei București – "Army Sports Association") was founded on 7 June 1947 at the initiative of several officers of the Romanian Royal House. The establishment took place following a decree signed by General Mihail Lascăr, High Commander of the Romanian Royal Army. It was formed as a sports society with seven initial sections, including football.

In 1949, CSCA won its first trophy, the Cupa României, defeating CSU Cluj 2–1 in the final. Under the name of CCA, the club managed to win three Championship titles in a row in 1951, 1952 and 1953, along with its first Championship–Cup double in 1951. During the 1950s, the so-called "CCA Golden Team" became nationally famous. Under the leadership of coaches Emerich Jenei and Anghel Iordănescu, Steaua had an impressive Championship run in the 1984–85 season, which they eventually won after a six-year break. What followed was a landmark European Cup season. After eliminating Vejle, Honvéd, Kuusysi Lahti and Anderlecht, they were the first ever Romanian team to make it to a European Cup final. At the final, played at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Seville, Spanish champions Barcelona were clear favourites, but after a goalless draw, Helmut Duckadam saved all four penalties to make Steaua the first Eastern-European team to conquer the supreme continental trophy.

In 1998, the football department and its facilities were separated from the latter and taken over by a group of shareholders in a post-Ceaușescu privatisation scheme, leading to one of the shareholders acquiring full ownership five years later. However, CSA Steaua București has been in conflict with the football club since 2011, claiming that it was a new and separate entity; this resulted in multiple court cases and the forced change of the name from FC Steaua București to FC FCSB in early 2017.

Domestically, when taken together with the disputed pre-2003 honours, the club has won the Liga I 27 times, Cupa României 24 times, Cupa Ligii two times, and Supercupa României seven times—all competition records. Internationally, they have won the European Cup and European Super Cup, both in 1986. They reached the European Cup final once again in 1989, when they were defeated by AC Milan. Throughout their history, the Roș-albaștrii also played the final of the Intercontinental Cup, the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup, and the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup.

The club has a long-standing rivalry with neighbouring Dinamo București, with matches between the two being commonly referred to as the "Eternal derby" or the "Romanian derby". Another notable rivalry is the one against Rapid București, while several milder ones are disputed against teams outside the capital, including a recent one against CFR Cluj that commenced because of the title competitions these teams fought in the 21st century. FCSB's home ground is Arena Națională, having moved here from the Ministry of National Defence-owned Stadionul Ghencea.

Absolutely not. We need to win this otherwise it's looking like an extra two games in February/March.

Didn’t realise. Thought we were already through and this was a dead rubber.

Great performance from our away fans in recent weeks. I'd like to see at least 2 or 3 given a shot, they're earned it

We pretty much are, we’d need to lose and 3 of the other 5 teams below us would need to win. It’s very unlikely we end up in the playoffs.

    Then I retract.

To be fair, it’s not much worse than our 11 today.

This will be a tough game. Let's hope we can hold on for a draw at least.

Need a draw at least, feel like some of the team 3 points behind have easier games and we definitely do not want to be outside top 8.

Hopefully can stink Romania out with tumescent 0-0 with few changes in personnel.

Rotate it up a bit. Pretty sure a draw guarantees us top 8 but obviously need to just think about winning and getting to 3 wins in a row to feel better about ourselves

Any advantage to finishing as high in the table as possible, or is it simply Top 8 that's important?

Top 8 gets us into Round of 16 which start on 21st February
If we drop out, knock out games start 13th

Are we sure Garnacho will be around for this one? Would be great if he is to make the most of it before the potential transfer.

Feel for Bruno playing all the time but this is a big one and we need him in first 11, we've not qualified yet. People probably don't want to see Hojlund in first 11 but would back him to do well in Europa and actually wanted Zirkzee to start against Fulham but seems like it'll be the opposite.

If we've got good result in second half then rest Amad, Bruno and Dalot in 2nd half and bring on Mazraoui, Ugarte and Malacia. I'd even say Casemiro but he's not getting any minutes at the moment.

We need at least a point here and FCSB are only 1 point behind us so have to have a good performance.

4 wins and a draw in our 6 games so far in 2025. Let’s get another win here and keep this run going! Palace at home on Sunday after that. Come on, let’s have some positivity!

This tournament is the most important thing left in our season. No resting, priority avoiding qualifying game.

We should be the best side in the whole thing, hopefully we start playing that way.

have to be careful here. a draw should probably be enough - only galatasaray (ajax away) and glimt (nice away) can catch us. they both have to win if we draw. if we lose we're likely going into play off. they wont be pushovers, although rangers hammered them 4-0, more of their games have been tight and we arent exactly firing. biggest game in a long time for them with united coming and a win putting them through automatically, crowd will be good.

round of 16 would start on march 6th with second legs march 13th.

if we drop out wed face a play off on 13th feb and 20th feb, which would be before tottenham away, and then before everton away. we cant really afford to drop into play off

ah i got wrong, didn't know it's 13th March, top 8 is important. February is not a hectic schedule, and not playing two extra game would help

absolutely especially before tottenham who will have a new manager bounce by then, and Moyes with that horrible goodison crowd acting like its the world cup final

Very hard to work out how big this game is based on the table. Like to the extent where i can’t work out whether it’s a dead rubber or a must win.

It's definitely not a dead rubber.

If we lose, there's 8 teams that would over take us if they won - one definitely would, as FCSB (Steaua Bucharest) would go above us if they beat us. So a defeat would be quite likely to mean that we'd drop out the top 8 - we'd be very lucky if enough results went our way to stay in those positions.

A draw would mean only 5 teams could overtake us, so they'd all need to win for us to miss out - so we'd be unlucky to miss out on top 8 with a draw, but it would still be possible.

I know what you mean about not knowing if it's a 'must win' though. Obviously only a win guarantees it, but we'd also be very unlucky to get knocked out with a draw. We've really got to go there and get at the very least a draw - a defeat and we're hoping for an awful lot of results to go our win to remain in top 8.

So I'd definitely say it's a mustn't lose, but not quite a must win as, unless we're very unlucky, a draw should be enough.

need to rest Amad and Bruno. They've been playing a lot lately.

    Altay
Maz - De Ligt - Yoro
    Amad - Collyer - Eriksen - Dalot
    Bruno - Garna
    Zirkzee
Would go with that. Secure the result then make the necessary subs. We have zero depth in our squad, it's so sad to see.
