    Burnley Football Club (nicknamed The Clarets), is a professional association football club based in Burnley, Lancashire. On 18 May 1882, The club was founded on On 18 May 1882, when Burnley Rovers Football Club decided to shift their allegiance from rugby union to football. Playing in various green or blue and white kits for their first few years, the club played their first competitive game in October 1882 against Astley Bridge in the Lancashire Challenge Cup, that game ending in an 8–0 defeat. In the early months of 1883 the club moved to Turf Moor and remain there, only their Lancashire rivals Preston North End having occupied the same ground continuously for longer. Burnley first appeared in the FA Cup in 1885–86 but were ignominiously beaten 11–0 when eligibility restrictions meant that their reserve side had to be fielded against Darwen Old Wanderers. On 13 October 1886, Turf Moor became the first ground to be visited by a member of a (British) Royal Family. When it was decided to found the Football League for the 1888–89 season, Burnley were among the 12 founders of that competition.

    The club enjoyed its Golden days as one of the most progressive clubs around in the 1950s to the early 1970s under the reign of chairman Bob Lord. They were one of the first teams to build a training ground next to the stadium, while every other team still trained in their own stadium, and the Turf Moor club used innovative training methods. Among other things, this resulted in an excellent youth team. Nearly all members of the 1959–60 Division 1 winning team had played in the Burnley youth team. Lord also pioneered the short-lived 'Football Specials'. The Clarets were also the first to let a manager decide about the transfer policy. After the 1959–60 title winning season finished, Burnley went to the United States to participate in the inaugural international football tournament in North-America, the International Soccer League. The following season Burnley played in European competition for the first time. Burnley's biggest traditional rivals are Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers with the match between Burnley and Blackburn sometimes called The Cotton Mills Derby. Burnley play their home games at Turf Moor.

    We’ll have a promising opening 15 minutes.

    If we lose this I can see us going out of league cup v Palace and EtH being on incredibly thin ice.

    Hope I’m wrong. But have zero faith as can’t see Amrabat being ready so our midfield will be just as gash. Maybe Mount can come in and give us more legs but I think Burnley will be massively up for this more than any other game this season.
     
    I'd expect we at least win this one. Palace and Brentford will be more difficult.
     
    A very important game that will shape our season. Win this and I think, with players slowly coming back from injury, we have a decent chance of going on a winning run. Lose this and all hell will break lose.
     
    Of course it’s a night game. I had to Google that 1-0 game in Burnley’s first Premier League season to remind myself when it happened.

    2009 wouldn’t have been in my top 5 of guesses. I remember that feeling like a disaster at the time :lol:

    I assumed it must have been under Moyes or Van Gaal because a. We didn’t lose to Burnley under Fergie and b. Surely Burnley weren’t in the Prem in 2009.

    Do not play Eriksen and Casemiro as a pair. That's all I ask. Don't care which combination plays instead. Just not that one.
     
    You won’t see Burnley try harder in any other game this season. They will play like men possessed and go back to the useless c*unts they are the following week. Mark my words.
     
    Actually very optimistic for this. There were positive signs today. But it was away to Bayern with all our injuries, so good luck.. But we are starting a good run of games now for the next month before we play against City, time to build our confidence. And what gives me optimism is I think Amrabat, Mount and possibly Varane will all be available for this game. Don't need Varane here really if it's rushing him, but definitely the 2 midfielders. Think we win this comfortably.

    Yeah, this is how I feel as well. Considering all the injuries, unavailabilities, scandals and shit around the club, we've only ended up losing a game to Bayern Munich away by the keeper throwing one in and a dodgy penalty. As shit as it is, it at least feels like a step the right way after the Brighton game.

    Burnley are basically what Swansea used to be. They'll try and play a bit, but are naive, can't particularly defend, and are there for the taking if we even play half decently.

    Interesting the team have stayed in the night in Munich and are to train there tomorrow before flying back to Manchester. Should be boosted by Mount,Varane to feature and Amrabat to make his debut but it's doubtful many if any of the trio will start.

    Think all three of them have trained all week and I'd imagine they stayed back to not risk them before they were ready to make sure they are fine for the weekend.
     
    Would do many to remember when we went to a dire Watford saying the same thing.
     
    We are going to rain destruction down upon them. 0-8 with a Højlund hat trick. Onana is going to lob their keeper from 60 yards.
