Liverpool FC - nicknamed The Reds are an English professional football club based in Liverpool, England; and were originally founded in 1892 as Everton Football Club and Athletic Grounds Company plc, before finalizing on the name Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Ltd after a dispute between the Everton FC board and John Houlding - the owner of Everton's former premise at Anfield Road. One of the most successful and storied clubs in the history of European football, Liverpool have won 18 English league titles, 5 European Cups, 7 FA Cups, and 8 League Cups, peaking in the 1970s and 1980s, first under the enigmatic Bill Shankly, and then his 'Boot Room' successors. Although Liverpool's fortunes as a domestic and European force have dwindled in the past 25 seasons, they still have a massive global support-base; and share two fierce historic rivalries - with crosstown rivals Everton FC (The Merseyside Derby); and Manchester United (who ironically rose back into consistent title-winning prominence as Liverpool declined).

We've won the last 4 against them but i cant see it this time. Just hopefully we grind out a draw.

Genuinely fear we will lose this one but we do have a good record v Liverpool. Think we might lose 2-1 at Anfield and then scrape a 1-0 win at OT and go through.

The starting line-up I'd like to see is - De Gea; Varela, Smalling, Rojo, Fosu-Mensah; Felliani, Herrera, Schneiderlin; Martial, Depay, Rashford.

Rashford won't start this time. Martial up front with Memphis and Lingard on the wings.

We'll loose again, just hope it's not too heavy so there's still a point to the second leg

We will attempt to bore everyone to death in what should be one of the most exciting games vs these lot in a while - a European game. We will lose 1-0.

Drop Mata for the rest of the season. Perreira or Herrera there.

    Can see us win this.

Right, have we all calmed down? Onto the next then!!

It´s an away game, we need to win, so watch us get crushed by Klopp...

I'd rest Blind, drop Carrick and Darmian, and play Mata, he's got a performance in him to make amends for today IMO. Lingard being out is a blow, his hard work and the fact he gets that this rivalry transcends the Europa League would have been handy, as you never know what Memphis you'll get.

    I'd go with this;

If both teams play like they did today we're gonna get clobbered.
What's this overrating of Liverpool's performance then. 6 shots for 90 minutes. One of them a gift from the goalkeeper and one of them a pen which they got after the minimum of added time had gone. Liverpool produce about 1 good performance every 8 games or so but have gotten away with more points than that similar to us early in the season.

Playing Liverpool suits us better simply because they don't focus 95% on defending like Watford and West Brom do.

I agree, we have no idea how to break the clogger teams down but those that play openly against us play to our strengths, and I don't see Klopp doing anything but going for our throat at Anfield. I actually selected 3-1 to United, think we'll pick them off and lucky Louis will dine out on it for the rest of the month.

We need more energy in the team and full backs with more attacking impetus. I'd go with this, assuming they're all fit...

    de Gea
    Varela Smalling Fosu-Mensah CBJ
    Herrera Schneiderlin
    Rashford Mata Lingard
    Martial

Jeez it was one match...we can win this if we play as we did prior to today. Idk how anyone can not be excited for our first ever European game against the team we all hate most.

Don't really see how we're going to win this. Firmino is looking really sharp. We rode our luck last time at Anfield

    De Gea
    Varela--Smalling--Fosu-Mensah--Rojo
    Schneiderlin--Herrera
    Lingard--Mata--Memphis
    Martial

Where the hell are Januzaj & Pereira?!?!

We won't beat them on their own patch again. The last one was robbery. They've been good in the big games too. A score draw would be an excellent result.

Thats a stupid decision. He is already banned for the next premier league. So might as well use him in Europe so we can rest another attacker for the next league game.

He is banned for the FA cup game, not league game.

    Looking forward to this.

I'm not after today. Based on history of our form we're going to struggle for the next 2-3 matches then win 1-2 again. Got them at the wrong time I fear. Hope I'm wrong though.

From an opposition's perspective it will be interesting to see if we keep our high pressure game without Sturridge and Coutinho in the team. Or bring back the well rested dynamic duo.

Either way you'll score a spivy 50 yard goal off Blind's arse and De Gea will make 45 one one saves so the game will be irrelevant for the large part.
