Burnley Football Club (nicknamed The Clarets), is a professional association football club based in Burnley, Lancashire. On 18 May 1882, The club was founded on On 18 May 1882, when Burnley Rovers Football Club decided to shift their allegiance from rugby union to football. Playing in various green or blue and white kits for their first few years, the club played their first competitive game in October 1882 against Astley Bridge in the Lancashire Challenge Cup, that game ending in an 8–0 defeat. In the early months of 1883 the club moved to Turf Moor and remain there, only their Lancashire rivals Preston North End having occupied the same ground continuously for longer. Burnley first appeared in the FA Cup in 1885–86 but were ignominiously beaten 11–0 when eligibility restrictions meant that their reserve side had to be fielded against Darwen Old Wanderers. On 13 October 1886, Turf Moor became the first ground to be visited by a member of a (British) Royal Family. When it was decided to found the Football League for the 1888–89 season, Burnley were among the 12 founders of that competition.

The club enjoyed its Golden days as one of the most progressive clubs around in the 1950s to the early 1970s under the reign of chairman Bob Lord. They were one of the first teams to build a training ground next to the stadium, while every other team still trained in their own stadium, and the Turf Moor club used innovative training methods. Among other things, this resulted in an excellent youth team. Nearly all members of the 1959–60 Division 1 winning team had played in the Burnley youth team. Lord also pioneered the short-lived 'Football Specials'. The Clarets were also the first to let a manager decide about the transfer policy. After the 1959–60 title winning season finished, Burnley went to the United States to participate in the inaugural international football tournament in North-America, the International Soccer League. The following season Burnley played in European competition for the first time. Burnley's biggest traditional rivals are Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers with the match between Burnley and Blackburn sometimes called The Cotton Mills Derby. Burnley play their home games at Turf Moor.

    Team should be...

    -----------------Henderson-----------------
    AWB--Lindelof--Maguire--Shaw
    --McTominay--------Pogba--
    Greenwood--Bruno--Rashford
    --------------------Cavani--------------------

Subs: De Gea, Tuanzebe, Williams, Matic, Fred, James, Amad, Mata, VDB

We have a terrible record against them for whatever reason. Please end it.

    Henderson
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Pogba Fred
    Greenwood Bruno Rashford
    Cavani
Can see Ole do something like this, which is probably excessive (would pick James over Greenwood just for some balance on that side), but definitely don't need McTominay and Fred together here.

The luxury of a rested Maguire, Shaw and McTominay. Thankfully Cavani, Bruno and Pogba weren't needed for 90 minutes either. And Rashford spared.

I just want a ref that does his job for this match.

Urgh I’ve been to a couple of these live. So frustrating.

I hope Solskjaer highlights these results before the match. It’s time to give them a right thumping

Jonathan Moss. Not got the best record with him in recent matches if memory serves

Think it'll be McTominay playing instead of Fred as he should be completely fresh.

I’d bench Rashford again with the hope that we don’t need him. Maguire, Shaw and McTominay getting a rest today was good.

    Henderson
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    McTominay - Fred
    Greenwood - Bruno - Pogba

We have a rare week off after this game, no real need to rest anyone

I hate playing these, a team from a bygone era. I'd start with the below team and if we are struggling to score then take one of McFred off, move Pogba to midfield and put Rashford LW if he's fit enough to play 30 minutes.

It’s about time we battered this lot, no doubt do a Newcastle and score first at OT and then Tarkowski turns into Lascelles

Had the misfortune of attending the last two matches. Last home win against them was under Van Gaal with the likes of Di María,Falcao and Paddy McNair starting.

United haven't done the league double over Burnley since season 1975/76.

I was there and Smalling scored a brace

If Rashford is fit enough to start then I'd have Pogba in the middle instead of Fred, but he seems to not have recovered yet

Worst part of this is that even beating them won't help them finally get relegated. We did our part getting Stoke where they belong, but Newcastle and Fulham have really let us all down this season.

Crazy stat. They've been in the league quite a few years now.

Yeah, that was the team I was going to suggest as well.

I'm expecting to see Rashford starting, but I'd prefer it if he was only on the bench and, like v Granada, only used if necessary and, ideally, not at all.

    Henderson
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw

Important game, should be something like this unless Rashford is still too much of a risk. We have a week off before the next game which is a rarity so there's no real need to rest anyone. It's an important game to win as we can match last seasons point total with six games left. This should give us the cushion before tough games against Leeds and Liverpool (not forgetting Roma in-between).

Its Burnley at home so don't think we need two defensive players in midfield, hope we go with:

    Henderson
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay VDB
    Pogba Bruno Rashford
    Cavani

Or swap Rashford and Greenwood depending on fitness. However can't see Ole playing VDB instead of Fred.

Burnley love a long ball hump up to Wood. Expect McTominay to play for his height over Fred. Depending on Rashford fitness, wouldn’t be surprised if Matic plays to challenge for the long balls and let Maguire and Lindelof drop. If Rashford fit, then Pogba and McT midfield, if not, Pogba goes on the left and McT and Matic midfield. Rest of the team picks itself.

    MUFC 2 - 0 Burnley

Give Marcus another night off, just put him in at the end to keep his mind sharp. My primary concern is that Burnley are thugs and he could get hurt.

We should beat this lot handily but they'll stuff their box with 10. Score early, and we could get more than 2.

Maguire should sit. Picks up a yellow here and it's his 10th yellow and he'd be out for Leeds & Liverpool. After this week his 10th yellow wouldn't mean a suspension the rest of the season

Drop those matches and the teams below us win their matches and top 4 wouldn't be a guarnatee

They will sit deep, so VdB movement could be very beneficial. No need for two holding midfielders, so Pogba can play as a CM.
Rashford needs a proper rest ahead of crucial games against Rome and Liverpool. Pretty sure we can handle Burnley w/o him.
