Newcastle United Football Club (nicknamed The Magpies) is a professional football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne. The first record of football being played on Tyneside dates from 3 March 1877 at Elswick Rugby Club. Later that year, Newcastle's first football club, Tyne Association, was formed. The team was renamed Newcastle East End F.C. in October 1882. Shortly after this, another Byker side, Rosewood FC, merged with East End to form an even stronger side. Meanwhile, across the city, West End Cricket Club began to take an interest in football and in August 1882, they formed Newcastle West End F.C. West End played their early football on their cricket pitch, but in May 1886, the club moved into St. James' Park.

The two clubs became rivals in the Northern League. During the spring of 1892, in a season during which West End's results were at an all-time low, and in which they had lost to their bitter rivals, East End, five times, West End found themselves in serious trouble. They approached East End with a view to a take over, the directors having decided that the club could no longer continue - leading to a merger of the two rivals as Newcastle East End decided to adopt a new name in recognition of the merger.Suggested names included Newcastle F.C., Newcastle Rangers, Newcastle City and City of Newcastle, but Newcastle United was decided upon on 9 December 1892, to signify the unification of the two teams.

The club has been a member of the Premier League for all but three years of the competition's history, spending 85 seasons in the top tier as of May 2016, and has never dropped below English football's second tier since joining the Football League in 1893. They have won four League Championship titles, six FA Cups and a Charity Shield, as well as the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Newcastle United has the ninth highest total of trophies won by an English club. The club's most successful period was between 1904 and 1910, when they won an FA Cup and three of their First Division titles. The club were highly successful in the Premier League in the 1990s and early 2000s without winning any trophies, but have been mostly struggling since the 2006–07 season, and were relegated in 2009 and 2016.

Newcastle has a fierce local rivalry with Sunderland, and the two clubs have engaged in the Tyne-Wear derby since 1898. Newcastle play their home games at St James' Park - which has been the home ground of Newcastle United since 1892 and has been used for football since 1880.

Almost 2 weeks, I'll miss the Glazers&Woodward project!
Wish we'd play a team like this, in Green and Gold; season is over anyway.

    -------------------Henderson
    Laird/TFM--Axel/Fish-Mengi--Williams
    ---------van de Beek-Galbraith/McCann
    ------------------Mata/Mejbri
    ----Greenwood------------Elanga
    ------------------------Hugill

It's another game and I hope we win. One thing's for sure, we won't be as bad as today.

Would prefer to see Lindelof in and Pogba out. Expect Mata to come in on the right with Greenwood on the left and Rashford central.

    Henderson
    Laird Smalling Mengi Telles
    McTominay Galbraith
    Greenwood Mata VdB
    Cavani

Get the new signings in and replace everyone who played today bar Greenwood. I’m genuinely not joking, and my thoughts won’t change in two weeks.

Poor against Palace, poor against Brighton, and poor against Spurs. Newcastle should be a turning point for the lads. The international break came at a good time for them. I feel our season will start here. But regardless, we still need a new manager.

    De Gea
    AWB - Linderloff - Maguire - Shaw
    Matic
    Bruno - Pogba
    Dembele* - Greenwood - Rashy

Hopefully debut for Dembele or Sancho and Pochettino if we get them before the window closes.

Cavani has not played since March. No way he will play.

No clue where to even begin based on today. Pick the best XI from the international break?

Two weeks of Ole’s astonishing, world class fitness regime and he’ll be raring to go as if he were a young lad still playing for Napoli.

In all seriousness, he couldn’t do worse than Rashford, or anyone who just played. I mean, we just lost 1-6 at OT.

If he's fit, Saint-Maximin could cause havoc against us at the moment. Wilson will relish coming up against our CB's as well.

    Team should be...

    -----------------De Gea-----------------
    AWB--Lindelof--Maguire--Shaw
    ------------------Matic------------------
    -------VDB-----------------Pogba-------
    --------------Fernandes--------------
    ---Greenwood----Rashford---

Subs: Henderson, Bailly, Telles?, McTominay, Fred, Lingard, Cavani?

I think Ole will go defensive, sit back and play on the counter as that’s how going to have to play in the more difficult games. Maybe return to Fred and Mctominay in midfield and/or a back three.

Based on three games so far it’s an easy win for Newcastle, Fulham are only team so far that are as bad as us.

    I would love to see

    Hendo
    AwB, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles
    Scott, Bruno, Donny, Williams
    Cavani Rashford.

You just know DdG will start, Pog'll be on and so will Fred though

That's how we set up every game under Ole. It's all about the counter attack.

One thing's for sure: it's going to be an awful performance. We might nick something a la Brighton.

Diamond time. Martials out anyway and Cavani won’t be fit.

    De Gea
    Williams - Lindelof - Maguire - Telles
    Fred
    Pogba - Donny
    Bruno
    Greenwood - Rashford

Needs a good response or else the screw is turning.

I would drop Pogba as well.

I don't want to see Pogba and Bruno in the starting XI until we can defend as a team.

Oh look drop the foreigners but lets keep the English rubbish. Are you for real when you say you want to play both useless and slow ass awb n mac on the same side where they be both tore apart by the power house and fast Maximin ?

Newcastle will destroy that team you have put out.

ps: what formation are you using by the way ?

Thank god for the international break

Gow away. Recoup. Get fit. Restart. New players will be in the mix, people will know what they're working with. Hopeful.

I'm sorry but I really cant see us being as bad as today. I know most of us feel completely deflated but we have quality in the team and the players have shown it in the past. I expect us to bounce back. We do need to mix the team up though. Drop pogba and play DVDB should be a no brainer.

I'd at least trust this team to retain the ball.

    Henderson
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Telles
    McTominay
    Van de Beek Fernandes
    Mata---------------------Mason
    Cavani

    De Gea
    Williams Smalling Maguire Telles
    McTominay Fred Van de Beek
    Bruno
    Greenwood Rashford
Please for the love of god drop Wan Bissaka, Shaw and Pogba. Assuming Smalling isn't sold.. if he is, then start Tuanzebe? Mengi? Mess whoever.

Haven't even got the stomach for this right now.
