Manchester City Football Club (nicknamed City, The Citizens, and The Sky Blues), are a professional football club based in Manchester, England. City were founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), before being renamed as Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, and finally Manchester City in 1894 - and the origins can be traced back to members of St. Mark's Church of England, West Gorton — who founded the football club that would become known as Manchester City, for largely humanitarian purposes. Two church wardens sought to curb local gang violence and alcoholism by instituting new activities for local men, whilst high unemployment plagued East Manchester, specifically Gorton. All men were welcome to join, regardless of religion.

The team's first recorded match occurred on 13 November 1880, and City gained their first honors by winning the Second Division in 1899 — with it came promotion to the highest level in English football, the First Division. In the seasons following the FA Cup triumph of 1904, the club was dogged by allegations of financial irregularities, culminating in the suspension of seventeen players in 1904, including captain Billy Meredith, who subsequently moved across town to Manchester United. Almost half a century later later, a City team inspired by a tactical system known as the Revie Plan reached consecutive FA Cup finals again, in 1955 and 1956; just as in the 1930s, they lost the first one, to Newcastle United, and won the second. The club continued to challenge for honors throughout the 1970s, finishing one point behind the league champions on two occasions and reaching the final of the 1974 League Cup.

Prior to the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, the club had enjoyed moderate levels of success through their history — however, since the start of the current decade, City have been buoyed by the signings of Sergio Agüero, Yaya Touré, David Silva, Vincent Kompany — and have emerged as perpetual title contenders Vincent Kompany winning the league four times and repeatedly finishing in the Top 3. City play their homes games at the Etihad Stadium, and their biggest rivals are neighbors and opponents for the game, Manchester United.

No idea who to play up front. Mata is too slow. Pereira has been poor. I guess start Lingard and hope he can deliver.
Not fully sure about James either, but he should start.
Maybe play 3-5-2 again? Maguire need to attack like today for it to work and not sure it suits Wan Bissaka.

Just rest as many key players as we can so we can play Wolves in one piece.

Romero definitely deserves another start, would be interesting to see if he can do another clean sheet.

It's a Manchester derby in a semi final, but we're away with a 2 goal deficit and don't have enough of our key players to actually stand any chance. Weird really. You almost want us to rest our key players to focus on the game on the weekend, but we can't really rest players anyway, and with it being vs City we can't just write it off.

    Romero
    Lindelof Jones Maguire
Wan Bissaka - Matic - Fred - Shaw
    Greenwood - Martial - James

Mountains are there to be climbed. I expect the 3-5-2 again, which I've never really understood the dislike of (Surely ANYTHING is better than the 4-2-3-1 we usually play).

I think we might surprise a few people with a gutsy performance but ultimately lose. Ole then says something about progress and then we probably lose/draw the next few league game.

Woodward would not be looking forward to any game now, least of all a high profile one like this. There is a high chance that we would get beaten and if the fans were up in arms in a 0-6 game, imagine the shaming he would have to endure under much more spotlight.

Why do we play on a Saturday after playing on a Wednesday? City get a Sunday match.

We have to beat City by 2 goals to have a chance, 3 goals to win and the Wolves match will be the 3rd in 6 days. Seems to be like we should just forfeit this match.

SUBS - Greenwood (Pereira), Williams (Shaw), Lingard (Mata)

I expect it to look a lot like the Liverpool game.

    Man City 2 - 0 Man United

Not likely lads, also remember that night in Paris...

I’d go three at the back again but play AWB instead of Joneseh! Dalot can provide more threat on the right!

    Dalot

We'll do well to avoid an absolute hiding. Hopefully we're on our game but I'm not confident. Can't see Woodward turning up either after that atmosphere today.

It's the Donald Duck cup and we lost at home. Just try to limit the score and avoid injuring/overworking key players (if we have any of those left at all) so we're ready for the next game that matters. I know that's a loser's attitude, but we're not in a position to fight to the last man in every competition. Let's be realistic.

Personally, and as others have said, I would field a weaker team and rest players for wolves. Saying that, each time our players get a rest, we do not seem to win such as Watford away. This squad is so unpredictable and in a bad way. I would go with:

    Romero
    Dalot Bailey Maguire Williams
    Matic
    Andreas Fred Mata
    Martial
    Greenwood

We need to pack that midfield up as much as possible, and have Matic far back as much as possible. I would have Fred and Andreas playing box to box with mata hanging deep to hold the ball and keep things simple and ticking. Martial in the number 10 or false 9 as he does like to drop deep and i think the further back he plays the better as his ability to get in the box is boarder line rubbish. Greenwood should literally play as a 9 working on scraps, what he is good at.

We have James on the bench if needed to add some pace, but also provides a change in tactics. The problem with Ole is he is so rigid and has zero tactical intelligence. He thinks he is Fergie but he is a poor mans Fergie as Fergie did more than counter attack.

I think we will lose regardless of who or how we play, 3 0 to City, comfortable for them.

Don't think we've got a prayer really. With Rashford and all our midfield fit maybe we'd have a smallish chance.

Just hope we get out of the game with no further injuries and not getting a hiding although I think we may get one. City probably sense blood.

No one has forgotten Paris, have you slept for the past 12 months? On a good day with a fully fit squad, and Rashford in top form we would have a real chance with our set up - right now we don't.

Long shot but you never know, we seem to go from the ridiculous to the sublime - that game my main man Pogba had at the council ground. At half time we were something like 50/1 stranger things have happened in football!

    De Gea
    Lindelof - Jones - Maguire
    AWB - Matic - Fred - Williams
    Mata - Martial - James

This was Ole master plan from the start. Lure City players into a sense of overconfidence and then finish them of at the Ethihad. Hopefully, we don’t pick up any injuries in this game. The game on the weekend is much more important.

Had lots of injuries that night in Paris .....
    We’re winning this. 3-0.

If players are instructed to find Mata, he will find space among the defense and pass. I would not use James, they might go again with a midfield packed without a striker to bother us. If we play the wing back game then we need to score 2 or 3 in the first half to force Pep to put a striker or two, and then, we can put James.

Such a difficult situation. Use the best 11 and go for it and it's still very unlikely to go through while we tire ourselves for the league. On the other hand we use the under 21s and we get 6-0 ed and the pressure in on more so then now. I have no idea what we should do. Probably have a go.

We're gonna get pumped whoever we put out so it doesn't really matter. Can we withdraw and take an automatic 3-0 loss or something?
