Paris Saint-Germain Football, commonly known as Paris Saint-Germain, or simply PSG, is a French professional football club based in the city of Paris. Paris Saint-Germain was formed on 12 August 1970 after the fusion of Paris FC – created a year earlier to fill the void of having no top-flight club in the capital – and Stade Saint-Germain, founded in 1904 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the birth town of Louis XIV. PSG made an immediate impact both on and off the pitch, building a substantial fanbase and winning promotion to Ligue 1 in their first season after claiming the Ligue 2 title. Their momentum was soon checked, however, and the club split into two in 1972. One branch joined CA Montreuil and continued in the first division under the name of Paris FC, while PSG assumed amateur status and had to restart in the third division.

PSG really took flight in 1973, when fashion designer Daniel Hechter took over the club and designed its classic jersey. Coached by French football legend Just Fontaine, PSG returned to Ligue 1 in 1974 and slowly began attracting the first stars of the Red-and-Blues such as Mustapha Dahleb and Carlos Bianchi. The club also moved into the Parc des Princes that year after spending their formative seasons using the Stade Municipal Georges Lefèvre. Since then, PSG have always played in Ligue 1. Top-tier status was attained within four years and by the end of the 1970s. And in 1978, Daniel Hechter handed control of the club to Francis Borelli, under whose guidance PSG won their first silverware: the Coupe de France in 1982 and 1983 and the league in 1986, during a decade marked by players such as Safet Sušić, Luis Fernández and Dominique Rocheteau.

After lurching from one crisis to another in the 2000s, PSG finally restored a sense of balance in 2011, when the club was purchased by Qatar Sports Investments. The takeover made Paris Saint-Germain one of the wealthiest in the world. Led by star player Zlatan Ibrahimović, team captain Thiago Silva and famous manager Carlo Ancelotti, the elusive league crown was finally brought back to Paris in the 2012–13 season. Zlatan's 30-goal haul almost single-handedly led the capital side to its first Ligue 1 title in 19 years, and third overall.

Paris Saint-Germain has by now established itself as a major force in France, and one of the major forces of European football. They have won a total of 38 trophies, making it the most successful French club in history by this measure. PSG is also the only club to have never been relegated from Ligue 1, the club with most consecutive seasons in the top-flight (they have played 45 seasons in Ligue 1 since 1974) and one of only two French clubs to have won a major European title. Domestically, the Parisians have won seven Ligue 1 titles, a record twelve Coupe de France, a record eight Coupe de la Ligue, and a joint record eight Trophée des Champions titles. The club has also won one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and one UEFA Intertoto Cup. PSG have a long-standing rivalry with Olympique de Marseille. The duo contest French football's most notorious match, known as Le Classique. And they play their homes games at Parc des Princes.

Just don't see how we can turn this around with the injuries, suspension etc. What's more annoying is we shouldnt even be playing these, them and City should have been kicked out ages ago.

It's super unlikely, but we should of course go for it with all we've got.

Might we go for the 2nd half formation from today? If the injured players aren't back:

    --------------de Gea
    --Young------Bailly------Lindelof
    --------McTom----Fred
    Dalot--------------------------Shaw
    -------------Pereira
    -------Lukaku------Rashford

Having Lingard there instead of Pereira would be ideal.

1-3 no problem. Couldn’t even hazard a guess at line up Sanchez looks gone for a while, Pogba out and no idea on Matic Herrera martial lingard mata

Would like to see us just go for it. There's no harm.

Unless one of the injured come back, something like:

    De Gea

    Young Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    McTominay
    Fred Andreas
    Dalot Lukaku Rashford
Gonna be a struggle but little else option and don't want to see Sanchez start again.

    To Whom It May Concern,

    Same scoreline like today please.
    Thanks.

    Kind Regards,
    A Hopeful Fan.

EDIT: Completely blocked out the Ward Prowse goal from my mind, so was hoping for a "same" 3-1 scoreline.

It's a free hit, we have nothing to lose. And I'm sure Ole will tell that to the players, we were never expected to win this tie the moment this draw was made.

Hoping to be pleasantly surprised. I'm sure the players will give a good account of themselves under Ole, as they have countless times already.

Lukaku has smashed his way in the starting lineup!

    Hopefully Herrera/ Matic is back.

    DDG
    Young Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Matic Herrera
    Andreas
    Dalot Lukaku Rashford

    We can dream.

Curious is Lukaku starts. Form says he should, but PSG have good enough centre backs to handle him.

We've been better away from OT all season, so I just can't rule out a positive display.

No expectations here, a complete freebie.

Give it a good go, and see how we look. The more experience of these games the better for the lads

Don't think Rashford should start. He's tired and needs the rest like Pogba. Which is a shame because we will need him if we are to try to progress. Going to be a big ask regardless.
Hoping we go out there and give our all, nothing to be ashamed about getting eliminated to PSG (unlike Sevilla last year).

A bit too far imo. Think they'll beat us again but there's no shame in that. 3-1 PSG.

Have a go, view it as a freebie, no shame for Ole or the players that it's probably out of reach.

The caf will lose its mind and declare every player who doesn't look good 'finished' and demand fifteen new signings in the summer, of course.

Lukaku is on fire, our defense is looking good and Andreas May take up the opportunity to relish in Pogba absence. Can we cause an upset? Do we have di Mateo voodoo working for us? Let see

We should be calm and relaxed. There's no pressure on us: turning this around would be incredibly difficult with a full-strength team; in our current state it's pretty much impossible.

But that means we should play without fear and inhibition. Have a go, see where that takes us. There's really nothing to lose.

Not looking forward to this with our midfield even more depleted.

We are very likely to get dicked but I hope we go for it.

PSG are facing their own demons in KO stages, a goal early on might make them nervous so hopefully we start well.

We don't stand a chance to get through, sadly. Hopefully we put in a good performance at least.

Finally the REAL test for Ole. If we overcome PSG, I will be on his camp.

Hope we rest players for the Arsenal game. That's a far more important fixture.

Assuming the players (Martial, Lingard, Herrera, Mata, Matic) are still injured or not fully fit (at best on the bench), I don't think Ole should gamble start them if they're available but not really fit. I think Dalot as RM/RW is a certain, that tryout works, and Ole have been doing that for 2-3 games now, nice tactical option on our right. I can see Ole opt with Bailly instead of Smalling for this one, maybe. Don't mind if it'll be Smalling for his goal threat.

    Hope to see this.

    De Gea
    Young -- Bailly/Smalling -- Lindelof -- Shaw
    McTominay -- Fred
    Pereira
    Dalot -- Lukaku -- Rashford

This, but I’d still go with Smalling.

Expecting us to win 1-3 or 2-4. Nothing less.
