    Southampton Football Club (nicknamed The Saints) are a professional football club based in Southampton, Hampshire. Southampton were founded in 1885 by members of St Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association. St. Mary's Y.M.A., as they were usually referred to in the local press, played most of their early games on The Common where games were frequently interrupted by pedestrians insistent on exercising their right to roam. More important matches, such as cup games, were played either at the County Cricket Ground in Northlands Road or the Antelope Cricket Ground in St Mary's Road. The club was originally known as St. Mary's Young Men's Association F.C. (usually abbreviated to "St. Mary's Y.M.A.") and then became simply St. Mary's F.C. in 1887-88, before adopting the name Southampton St. Mary's when the club joined the Southern League in 1894.

    Southampton play their home games at St. Mary's Stadium, and were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. The club has a long-standing sporting rivalry with Portsmouth in a match termed the South Coast Derby or the Hampshire Derby. Southampton has received praise for employing an attractive brand of football under Mauricio Pochettino, and having one of the best youth systems on English soil - which has produced the likes of Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale, Matth Le Tissier, Theo Walcott, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, James Ward-Prowse, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana over the years - as well as current Manchester United leftback, Luke Shaw.

    No excuses, we have to win. Could see a similar team to the one we saw v Palace, maybe with 1 or 2 changes depending on who's fit.
     
    Big win please. We need to pick up our home performances a little bit, need more goals and more momentum at home.
     
    Didn't see tonight's game but obviously hoping for a fully fit Rashford and Martial for this one
     
    Rashford looked sharp so should be able to come straight in for dalot probably.


    Martial is so important we don't need to risk him if we don't have to. Maybe a bench job.

    One more start for Sanchez.

    They won tonight but they aren't very good so we should win this, I'd like to see 3 changes from tonight though.

     
    I have a got a bit of the Burnley fears about this one, they've got a very good recent record at OT. 0-0 last season, back to back 0-1 wins during LVG's reign meaning we've only beaten them once in their last 4 visits to OT :nervous:
     
    Getting to the point where I prefer when we're playing away. Worried with our home form. Southampton always seem to turn up against us, particularly at OT.

    There's a good chance Rashford and Martial will be back for this too.

    Need a win here with the Spurs-Arsenal match taking place this weekend. Should be a comfortable win to be honest.
     
    Chance to get our goal differential up after Arsenal pulled ahead a little bit IMO. They're fighting for survival, we've just grinded out a really tough run of fixtures and this is the one what should be "gimme" before another run of ~9 tough games in all comps (and an easy last 3). This also definitely takes priority over the PSG game. We have no chance vs PSG so I'd be ok with treating that as a dead game tbh. Ole won't see it that way, which is good of course, but anyway...

    I think Shaw might be rested because he is on 9 yellows and will be suspended for 2 games with 1 more yellow which would mean that he would miss the Arsenal game. We have so many injuries that resting him seems like a risk but I wonder if Ole would do that .

    I like Sanchez now, he doesn't shout at his team mates and is sort of trying :lol: But I agree. Gomes could be great, he can follow Lukaku around and take care of his touches while Lukaku bully players around him.

    I think Greenwood might be in with a shout as well. He did travel with the team.

    I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of rotation where rotation can be made. Shaw has played a lot and could use some rest "IF" Rojo is up to it. If not, then I have no problem playing Shaw. He's young. I would also like to see a proper winger on the right. I liked Young today when he played on the right wing late in the game and absolutely loved his goal...

    Southampton are pretty poor, especially defensively and we should be rolling them over here, however we cannot be complacent. I think we need to field a strong team with the aim to get the game won within the first 60 mins and then sub off the starters for mid-week and kill the game. Pogba to play the full 90 as he's banned for PSG. Would be a good chance to rotate Dalot in for Young - he's played a lot of football recently and this looks an ideal chance for a rest.

    Do you believe we have a chance in Paris without Pogba, Matic and potentially Herrera?

    Obviously I don't want a big loss but I would rather give some fringe players minutes there and keep our strongest team for the league.
     
    Just looked at the Southampton team that lined up against Arsenal. It really is horrific :lol:.
     
    Forget any ideas of resting for psg. We need to ensure this game is dealt with first. We don't have the quality to rotate so id rashford in and martial back to the bench.

    It'll be interesting to see how Ole handles the next 3 games. We can't afford to slip against Soton and taking 3 points off Arsenal would be huge for the top 4 race. Does that mean we rotate for PSG, basically throwing in the towel before kick off and potentially inviting an absolute pasting? Or save legs v Soton where fringe players/young guns should get us a result and then bring back the big boys for PSG and Arsenal? Pogba will obviously play both PL fixtures.

    Not an ideal time to have lots of players missing through injury.

    Isn't that a one game ban?
     
    I think it'll be almost the same 18, bar maybe Martial for Garner/Chong if he is passed close enough to full fitness. Everyone else should just be wrapped in cotton wool to give them the best chance of making the Arsenal fixture next month. If both Rashford and Martial are available then we may go back to the 433, otherwise we'll see a diamond again most likely. I would be almost tempted to write off the PSG game due to the injuries. If we had everyone fit then of course, give it a go, but I'd actually hope that players are rested in Paris in favour of beating Arsenal. That is our biggest chance and one of our most important remaining League fixtures if we want to finish in the top 4.

    I don't think Fred or Sanchez did enough last night to keep their places, so maybe they sit this one out but play against PSG to give someone else a rest? One of them may have to start here, however. Those are the only real changes I can see bar one of Dalot or Young moving to the bench. I'd like to see Dalot given more game time, but it's a tricky one now. Young should be first choice for the Arsenal game, but he's just played two games in four days... So do you rest him here, for PSG, or both? I suppose Shaw could be given a rest before the Arsenal game too as he'll be really important..

    Maybe something like this. We should win this comfortably, but you never know. They're in decent form but this really should be an easier game than Palace.
     
    We should rest Martial and Lingard even if they are fit enough to play this one. No point risking them.
