Southampton Football Club (nicknamed The Saints) are a professional football club based in Southampton, Hampshire. Southampton were founded in 1885 by members of St Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association. St. Mary's Y.M.A., as they were usually referred to in the local press, played most of their early games on The Common where games were frequently interrupted by pedestrians insistent on exercising their right to roam. More important matches, such as cup games, were played either at the County Cricket Ground in Northlands Road or the Antelope Cricket Ground in St Mary's Road. The club was originally known as St. Mary's Young Men's Association F.C. (usually abbreviated to "St. Mary's Y.M.A.") and then became simply St. Mary's F.C. in 1887-88, before adopting the name Southampton St. Mary's when the club joined the Southern League in 1894.

Southampton play their home games at St. Mary's Stadium, and were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. The club has a long-standing sporting rivalry with Portsmouth in a match termed the South Coast Derby or the Hampshire Derby. Southampton has received praise for employing an attractive brand of football under Mauricio Pochettino and more recently, Ronald Koeman, and having one of the best youth systems on English soil - which has produced the likes of Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale, Matth Le Tissier Theo Walcott, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, James Ward-Prowse, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana over the years - as well as current Manchester United leftback, Luke Shaw.

    Lukaku

    Young Jones Lindelof Shaw
    Matic Pogba
    Mata Lingard Martial
    Lukaku
Picks itself. Like it should've today.

Rojo dropped, that's all I ask. Let him pick up his form.

Except for Martial, apparently injured (would like a confirmation, though).

Jones, Lindelof and Rojo. Wow! We are a Jones injury away from catastrophe, and they usually happen far too often. Anyone news on Smalling's injury?

    3 at the back please.

    De Gea
    Lindelof Jones Blind
    Young Matic Pogba Shaw
    Lingard Martial
    Rashford
That's our best bet, imo. Lukaku needs a little break (dropped).

Three at the back at home against a team that doesn't play 3 at the back, not happening.

    Not looking forward to it.
Another huff and puff struggle against a team that were twatted today and are playing their second away game in succession.

I will take a 1 nil win. Any sort of win.

One thing is for sure , there is no chance of a performance to warm the cockles

I liked the way the team played in that very offensive 4-3-3 with #10s as #8s. Maybe we could revert the midfield triangle and include Lingard/Mkhitaryan in there.

Three at the back at home against a team that doesn't play 3 at the back, not happening.

Rojo and Lindelof are totally useless. If we use a 3, then Lindelof can be at least somewhat useful on the right of the three.

If are going with a 2, then I would have Matic ahead of these two jokers.

They haven't won in 7 and Charlie Austin is suspended. This is an absolute must win and I'd love a real statement by us as well.

He's suspended. He grabbed his 5th yellow in 5 EPL games.
So we’re down to 2 available natural CB’s at the moment? Our season just keeps getting better.

I would be surprised to see Shaw get another start next match but I think he is the best available option unless Valencia is back. Young will start LB if he is.

Jesse is an absolute starter. Best inform player we have at the moment.

Centerbacks is the least of our worries, really. We had three in the bench today. And in 3 at the back, even Darmian can play there, god forbid.

Why the surprise with Shaw? He did just ok today, but Blind's the other option and Mourinho is apparently trying to ship him.

    Lingard is a dead starter.

Hope Martial's knee injury is a nothing issue, although then his absence from the squad today should be questioned.

I'm expecting Martial to miss this one as well but I'd play Mkhi on the LW over Rashford.

Exact same line-up for me. Not expecting anything less than we've been dished up for a while now, dog-turd.

We should be able to squeeze out a win, though.

    Man United 2 - 1 Southampton
    Lingard, Mata

    I will go with

    DDG
    Young Jones Lindelof Shaw
    Matic Pogba
    Mata Lingard Rashford
    Lukaku

Ibra, Martial and Herrera to come off bench.

We need any kinda win to get our confidence back. And can we please keep Kaku away from defending in our box.

We have to beat this shit lot. Let’s get a few wins going then buy a few players in Jan.

My only concern is whether the in form players can maintain their form. The story of our season has been players having a good form every couple of games and trading places with out of form players for the next couple of games.

We are shit, which is exactly what our performance against Saints will be. Mourinho has sucked the fun out of things like Van Gaal did.

Hopefully Southampton get an early goal and we're forced to attack again. As infuriating as a home draw against Burnley might be, it did set us up to attack from the off - something we don't really do enough.

I know, but sadly, our version of attacking is something you'd expect to see from say....a Burnley...if they were 2-0 down at home to Swansea. Cross, cross, cross, cross, cross, cross, moment of magic, cross, cross.

Who's in form the last month?

    ----------------------De Gea
    -----------Lindelof---Jones---Blind
    Valencia----------------------------Young
    --------------Pogba---Matic-----------
    --------------------Mata-
    ------------Lukaku----Martial

Rojo will need more time to gain his form back. So will Ibra.

I would want Mou to go attacking not play (too) cautiously at home.

Miki actually played much better than earlier in the season despite lack of contribution towards his stats. He was more aggressive than before which is a good thing to see.

Martial, Lukaku and Lingard to start. Pogba and Matic a certainty. Its between Mata and Miki, so for me, would like to see Miki given the chance.

Shaw to continue playing to build up his confidence and form again. The intents were there but lack the final ball.

I can only assume Pellegrino is holding to his position because he is handsome.

    ----------------------De Gea
    -----------Lindelof---Jones---Blind
    Valencia----------------------------Young
    --------------Pogba---Matic-----------
    --------------------Mata-
    ------------Lukaku----Martial
I'd rather see United play with a back four. Blind isn't a great CB.

    Lukaku
    Martial - Lingard - Mata
    Matic - Pogba
    Young - Jones - Lindelöf - Valencia
    De gea

I'd opt for three at the back also, currently its not working for us.

We'd do well to keep it tight, not concede and get back to basics.

Big game required from Lukaku, plenty of goals to be had against the saints, who are v.poor this season
