I’m ok with ETH (the available options are problematic) but what I would not be ok with is ETH having sole authority over transfers. He’s been sgbolic at this aspect of building a squad. Somebody needs to tell him, that there will not be another Antony and another Mount.
Then we are setting ourselves up for another year of excuses because at the end of the day how can you expect him to get results with players he didn’t want? It will also take time for him to learn more about these players, their skills, patterns of play, character. Unless of course we are talking long term and we are willing to give him more time.

All ETH should be doing is saying which positions he wants filling and then the powers that be will give him options that he can chose from. No way can we go along the route of players he has worked with before.
Not even that in my opinion. Last summer he prioritized getting a #8 and a new GK instead of going all in for the best striker, CB, or DM he could get. He clearly has trouble even addressing the main weaknesses in the squad, let alone getting the right players in.

Suspect he will be told if he is going down the wrong line.

No, it’s perfect how it is. Coach with something to prove, new ownership with new ideas, squad needing an overhaul. No need tying ETH into a new deal, he won’t believe he’s earned one and it will be way more expensive to sack him. Season starts, we’ll know how things are going relatively soon, then they can extend on a short term deal or not.
He already has a year left with an option to extend for one more on top of that. Two years is more than enough time and if he was to go in to next season and do poorly in the league then we can sack him with only 6-9 months of compensation.

If we keeping doing the same thing we’ve been doing, on what basis could we expect different results?

Agreed. Build on his strengths and compensate for his weaknesses.

I agree manager should have limited input in transfers but we’ve already committed to a manager who wanted much more than that and also that we have already excused for all of his failures with external factors he had nothing to do with. We are just creating another one if we take him off transfer duties.

Surely that’s just another reason to get rid of him then.

If that is the structure they want then bring a manager in that will fit with it.

Which is why we need experienced operators at the upper echelons of the club who can sniff any bullshit and call it as it is. These excuses, even the current ones, don't wash in an elite sporting environment.

Yes but we still wouldn’t release a press story about it. Journos all just assumed given the noise and 8th place he was gone, now they look like plums and are praying for news soon so they can save some face. ‘Told you he was going to be sacked’
That and the fact the club has been talking to multiple potential managers.

We have already invested £400m in Ten Hag’s vision by buying players he wanted. If we now keep him it means we are happy with the outcome so far, so the best course is to just keep on proceeding on the same path.
His main transfers have been a CF, CM, RW, CB - guess what our priorities are this summer?

I feel like they're waiting for the shine of the FA Cup win to fade and then let Ten Hag go...

Firstly, have we? Same journos said he was gone that said he’d met these people.

Even just assuming they met some folks - all it means is they were thinking of it at one point but it was some time ago now - the reality is ETH remains our head coach and there’s been no real news on that at all apart from all the noise which came from that tier 3 guardian journalist who isn’t even that good a source for Chelsea.

Maybe he can still be sacked this summer but it just feels to me like Ratcliffe might want to make a bit of a point here re media. No announcements, no leaks, business as usual and a signal we’re not a circus for them to make money off anymore.

It’s been over a week now. The celebrations should have ended last weekend. The players will all be focussed on the euros now.

If they were backing him surely it’d be out there by now. He’s getting sacked I reckon.
Still can't decide if this delay says they are going to keep him or have decided to sack and now speaking to candidates behind the scenes

I didn't think they'd bother announcing anything if he was staying, but then I remembered he's only got one year left on his contract so surely if they decide to keep him he'll be signing a new deal anyway? So at least there should be an announcement whether it's keep or sack

I don't think the logic necessarily follows. They should've been more proactive and fronted it up, even if they thought it would be an unpopular decision with the fans.

I'm worried the longer this drags on, the better his chances of staying become.

They didn't defend deeper. While largely playing without Martinez and Varane our defensive line went up 60 centimeters compared to last season.
But they didn't high press last season? The system from hell is a 23-24 innovation. In effect we've been deep both seasons but this year it wasn't supposed to be like that.

Even if he clings on his credibility is shot to pieces after this point if Ineos take this long to decide he hasnt been quite bad enough to fire. Probably gone by christmas either way

Kinder for both sides to just move on now

First thing we need to do is to resolve his future. Just get it done, we don't have all summer INEOS! We can discuss incomings / outgoings if we know who the coach is going to be.
