Again, I trust people who know better than me, and it has to be Duncan Edwards on that account. People who played with him played with three Ballon d’Ors (or similar), and said he would be the best player in the team regardleas of which position he played in. They put him in a center half position because then he could save them in defence, then run all across the pitch and crush the opponents in attack as well. Some myths … well, some myths have credible eye witnesses. And don’t ask me to provide quotes or names, I’ve had a couple of glasses of wine. But you know it’s pretty true.

I’d be interested seeing Steve Bruce as Joe Jordan’s replacement, Norman Whiteside could have played anywhere, Bryan Robson did, Roy Keane finished off the rests. And if I could only have one substitute to a CL final and I had players in all parts of the field with niggles going into the game - I wouldn’t feel bad with Alan Smith chugging the woodwork beside me.
