Mason Mount | Confirmed

Mounts positional awareness and defensive contribution is really good. Along with him being a serious attacking threat I think the midfield will do well. The main issue is cover
I am happy to be wrong but it doesn't feel me up with confidence in terms of control as Mount and Bruno are very similar and Casemiro is not a good and controlling tempo especially against good teams.

I think it's a good signing providing we've got enough left to make the other ones we need to. It undoubtedly strengthens us.

City play this way because Rodri is better on the ball than Casemiro, Gundogan/Silva have more Poise on the ball than Mount and KDB is more secure on the ball than Bruno. Additionally, there whole team are better on the ball than ours.
Casemiro and Bruno are so erratic with there pass.

Pretty much. No one here seems to realize the complete difference in profiles between the two sides even if we set up the same way.

Wage is way too high but transfer fee of 55 mil is not some shocking price. They wanted 80 mil, we offered 40 and ended on 55 mil. And central midfielder was our 2nd priority this summer. So all good.

But is he exactly midfielder who we needed? Time will tell. I still think that we need classic central midfielder not attacking one.

I’m of the same opinion. I’ve never rated Mount that highly but I’ve also never seen him play that much, but I’ve ETH is pushing to sign him then obviously he sees something in him and the manager has my full backing.

Yeah, EtH, Arteta, Klopp wanted him, Tuchel also loves him (apparently), so he must be doing something right.

Will be interesting to see how he plays with Bruno.

In isolation, that's very good business. EPL proven player, good all round skills, will add some numbers.

In context of our team, I have big doubts how he fits in and how many problems this solves (especially if we don't sign another midfielder to cover for Casemiro). Smells too much of another attacking player shoehorned in midfield two, but I'll trust ETH on this for now.

250k+, so we basically offered what Chelsea didn't want to and I hardly see anyone else willing to match that. No wonder he wanted to play here.

Think it's an overpay and don't like the profile to go along with Fernandes in our midfield. Will cheer for him to prove me wrong.

Somehow don't see him being a squad option for that amount. I'm expecting a regular starting spot for him.
I’m sure now he probably will take a spot but I was hoping we’d be buying someone else for midfield relegating him to “squad option” but I’d imagine now having paid so much we will move on and that’ll be that. I’m just sort of meh on this signing. Decent squad player but there are better options out there in my opinion for that kind of money.

I think I’m just more irked at the fee he is costing because that is like 20 mil too much in my opinion and just stinks of the old United.

People are just going to complain for the sake of it.
Yes, that's exactly the case. It's not because I believe we've overpaid a rival for an average player in his last year of his contract who wants away from his club because they've pissed him off.

And in the process we've given Chelsea the money to buy an actual quality young player for years to come who was much more important for us than some wishy-washy Chelski fan.

But keep spouting nonsense and I'll be happy to come back to this in a couple of years, similar to Maguire who was overrated from the start.

Exceptional.

Bizarre you people can't understand why others have reservations. No one is "complaining for the sake of it"
People already decided he will fail, preparing all the quotes for "I told you so" at the end of season etc. That is not "having reservations" that is silly moaning behaviour.

You're wasting your breath pal, all the doom mongers won't listen. They've written him off already.

No one has written him off, and twitter threads on any player are easy to make if you just want to emphasize every positive thing a player does or has done. I haven't seen a single person say "he doesn't add anything to our attack".

God our fan base can be so blockheaded some times.

£375k is with bonuses I think, so only £75k more than Mount.
Yeah, only £3.9m per year more.

Ha, "reservations"

So far today we've had people;

1) Complain that he's not Caicedo
2) Complain about the transfer fee
3) Complain about the wages
4) Complain about him not doing anything last season
5) Complain, complain, complain.

We've also had people come in to proclaim that it's guaranteed that Chelsea will finish above us, that the club hasn't learned from previous lessons, that Mount will be shit before he's even kicked a ball in training for us. All of the posts that fit the above, except one or two, say anything remotely neutral let alone positive at any point. It's just moaning.

"Reservations"? Nah, it's just folk on the Caf doing what they do best; shitting on any piece of good news and trying to bring everyone else down to their level of misery. And it's boring as feck.

As with Casemiro, we will only know if the fee is too high in half a year or a years time.

The price seemed steep for Casemiro, but what he brought to the team was more than worth the fee.
It's key to fix the midfield in ETHs system, and if Mount is the final piece of the puzzle, we will forget all about the 55+5 mio.

More than one way to control tempo. The keeper and Mount will help us improve massively

All I can say is Rice isn't worth twice the price tag of Mount, so there's that.

Positive take on this transfer.

I'm in the same boat as you; so-so with this but concede to the likelihood this is a first choice signing, and unlikely for another 1st choice CM.

Caicedo would be have been the better deal. This is going to be like when united opted for kagawa instead hazard, and arsenal opted for xhaka instead of kante.

Than you haven't been reading this thread very carefully.

Seen a few concerns on Twitter etc. saying we wouldn’t sign a player for 60m if we was about to be bought out… we can still sign players during a takeover right?

People already decided he will fail, preparing all the quotes for "I told you so" at the end of season etc. That is not "having reservations" that is silly moaning behaviour.

That's such a strawman argument. I've been one of the most vocal here against this deal, but I've also said repeatedly that I hope I'm dead wrong and then Ten Hag can work wonders and turn him into a very good CM.

That being said, as someone who watches a load of football and enjoys analyzing it I'm not willing to just "back the manager" on every fecking signing and sing high praises about it. Meanwhile people like you probably said the same shit when many were "moaning" over Maguire or another failed signing. Not every transfer has to be a slam dunk that everyone is thrilled with, but no one can actually debate on points they'd rather just declare "all the moaners have written him off already"

I don't get why some of you are complaining.

He is young and English, works hard and press hard, can score and assists, can pass and carries.

And he really wants to play for us and is on long term contract here.

What is the £5m in add ons then? If we can get a win against you lot?

Love it just for the meltdown..
The disrespect shown has been laughable by some people.
Not the 1st name on our list of signings but EtH has a plan and think we should get behind it.

You are talking about two extremes here, there is also grey side of things, I am not talking about people blindly praising every manager signing at all.

I'm not confident we'll be able to Maguire and possibly not Donny either. But, if we can now sell McTominay for a decent fee or even Fred and get a keeper signing over the line in early July we should also be able to sell Henderson which should just about leave enough funds for a striker.
We’re down Sabitzer already, and Eriksen can’t play a full 90 minutes in a tough match. We need another midfielder or we need to keep Fred unfortunately.

Of course we can. These weirdos have convinced themselves that the principal of business as usual doesn't apply to United.

Can't believe 70 mil and 400k :(

Seriously though I found Bruno to be at his best slightly more withdrawn under Ten Hag and I am wondering if he will now be a more controlling 8 with Mount pressing along with Bruno?

2 pressing demons with Casemiro as the support structure, very intrigued to see how this works.
I think ten hag wants us to play quick & not slow possesion like Pep. We started as a counter team now playing possesion - he wants one 8 providing creativity centrally (bruno) & one 8 finding wider spaces/wings to create chances whilst both provide the defensive stability so take role of other whilst other create chances
