Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, commonly known as Wolves or The Wanderers, is an English professional football club based in the city of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. The club were founded as St. Luke's in 1877 by John Baynton and John Brodie, after a group of pupils at St Luke's Church school in Blakenhall had been presented with a football by their headmaster Harry Barcroft. Two years later, they merged with local cricket and football club The Wanderers, to form Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club then became one of the twelve founders of the English Football League in 1888 and finished the inaugural season in a creditable third place, as well as reaching their first ever FA Cup Final, losing 3–0 to the first Double winners, Preston North End.

The club spent 33 years in the top flight from 1932 to 1965, their longest continuous period at that level (albeit league football was in hiatus from 1939 to 1946 due to World War II). During the 1950s, the club was English league champions three times (1953–54, 1957–58 & 1958–59), whilst under the management of Stan Cullis. Wolves has also finished runners-up in the league on five occasions (most recently in 1959–60) and in third place on a further six occasions (most recently in 1960–61). On the domestic cup front, they have won the FA Cup four times, most recently in 1960, and has finished runners-up on a further four occasions, and the Football League Cup twice, in 1974 and 1980.

Wolves have long-standing rivalries with other West Midlands clubs; the main one is with West Bromwich Albion, against whom they contest the Black Country derby and with whom Wolves has played more league fixtures (146) than any other football opponent, even though the two clubs have not met in a league fixture since 2011–12 (the last season they competed in the same division as each other). Wolves also share rivalries with the two Birmingham clubs, Aston Villa and Birmingham City, though they are much further away than West Bromwich. They play their homes games at the Molineux Stadium, the first stadium ever built for use by a Football League club and one of the first British grounds to have floodlights installed and it hosted some of the earliest European club games in the 1950s.

They're on a horrible away run and conceded 6 in the last game. Watch us make a proper chore of it.

I'm at the point where I genuinely dont look forward to watching united. Can we forfeit the FA cup because I dont look forward to getting trounced by them.

Got offered a ticket for this game but declined it. Even with it not being on tv, I think I’ll still give it a miss.

This team look like they have completely packed it in. The league cup win seems like it was enough of a highlight for these players so they can just Jack in the rest of the season as if it doesn’t mean anything.

Full week of rest finally after 7 months without one. If we play like shit again there is no excuse.

We’ve got 4 massive games that we need to win

We cannot afford to drop any points here, anything but 3 points is a disaster

    What a complete mess

Think we'll be ok in this one. But we won't score many and it won't be comfortable.

    Thank god we're at home.

We need to scrape through into this champions league.

These week is going to feel real fecking bleak without the expected European semi. Feck me.

    I’d genuinely go with this…

    Butland
    AWB, Lindelof, Shaw, Dalot
    Casemiro, Eriksen
    Pellistri, Bruno, Garnacho
    Martial

Too many vs West Ham aren’t deserving of a starting spot

At least Pellistri and Garnacho are runners and in appearances/cameos this season have forced/made things happen.

    Nothing happened today

Honestly have zero confidence right now. I guess being at home helps some but meh. No Weghorst please. Rashy up top Bruno as #10 please.

Oh no, I hate Wolves. They are shit, but they also managed to suck the joy out of football every time we play them. I would have been very pleased to see them relegated.

Just play like you fecking want it! Close down like you want it! Shoot like you want it! Even if we’re playing crap, just run around a bit so you at least look bothered.

Or concede a whopper of a goal and sulk until the 88th minute where we start trying a bit.

No matter how shit wolves are, we’ll find a way to make their team of cloggers look like Bayern Munich. Anything less than a win and it’ll be panic stations.

The players having a week off gives me just a glimmer of hope. We desperately need that rest.

6 days until the game, 5 days prepping the team. This is a crucial period for ETH. He’s got to find a way of breathing life into this team or we are done for, regardless of whether we are at home or not.

Wolves are no mugs. Yes, we are better and should all things being well (which they are not) then we should win this one but Wolves are a good side and play well at Old Trafford, they have the tools to punish us for our bad form.

In terms of team, I don’t see many changes to the side, maybe Martial and Dalot coming in.

Varane back in squad for this one, right? Garnacho already made the bench tonight so surely will get some minutes vs Wolves.

Let’s keep a level head. We’re playing a team who keep losing away from home. Our home form has been pretty good. Win this and we’re 4 points clear with 3 games to play, in a great position. We have a week to prepare - just win!

With the players available this is the team I hope for. I know ETH probably will use Malacia and maybe even Weghorst.

...............Butland/De Gea........... I am not sure here.

    AWB.Lindelöf.Maguire.Shaw

    .........Casemiro.Eriksen.........
    ...............Bruno..................
    Antony...........................Sancho
    ................Rashford.................

I think it will end in a draw. Maybe 0-0.

I wish I could use the fast forward button to the end of this season. It's pure slog watching this group of United players stumble their way to the end of the season. Will it make any difference that Wolves have nothing to play for in this game? always a tough team to play against and got a draw and win in 2 of their last 3 Old Trafford games.
