The issue is if course that the placebo group got eliminated after 6 months. Making them worthless.

Cahill was decent. A consistent 7.5 player. My only issue with him was his last ditch tackles was one of his strongest traits but he shouldn’t have had to make as many as he did, which was also his greatest flaw.
Sorry, should have been clearer - all vaccine trials get unblinded eventually, unlike in other therapies. This is the point. There's no need for a placebo group for long-term outcomes. Vaccines are proven safe and effective and are pretty inarguably the biggest and most important medical breakthrough in human history.
It's 737 Max syndrome. Arrogance assuming we know best, without experimenting to prove its the case, when we might not.
Long term studies are the only way to empirically prove things for sure. In this case completing the trial normally would have been logical.

Front 3 of Werner, Havertz and Sterling can be an energy pressing machine.
They are good at pressing no doubt about that but very poor at finishing all of them.
Hope for Werner luck will change a bit in his favour.

I always take anything Falk says with a grain of salt, but he is imbedded with Bayern so it is the one time I pay attention to anything he says, still with a grain of salt.

I do feel Cahill was overrated by our fanbase but he wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination.
As per Matt Law, Sterling will be one of the top 3 earners in PL, which puts his wages close to 375k.
Sterling is a great signing, but that's a lot of money for his wages
I think Cahill benefited massively from playing with a genuinely world class CB in Terry. Terry never had a bad partnership, and I think the common denominator is the key there.
The season Terry missed games through injury and Cahill had to play with Luiz, they were a disaster. Cahill was a solid mid-table CB elevated by the standard or player around him I think.

Yeah I.don’t think Cahill was world class or anything but he was a very good CB for Chelsea. Worth remembering Chelsea won the title in 2017 without Terry being a major part of it. Cahill and Luiz were. It was a back 3 with Azpi but still. Also Cahill and Luiz were the CB pair that played in and won the 2012 CL final.

I wasn’t wow’d by this move to begin with but I’ve come around to it now and I’m pretty happy with it.
I think some players will leave. Looks like Ziyech is almost gone, to Milan. Werner could be gone by the end of this window. Sterling will be starter on the right most likely. I hope Tuchel goes with 433 next season, so there’s space for an extra attacking player in the team.

If we switch to 4-3-3 we gain a midfielder but lose a bit of threat from James and Chilly who were clearly 2 of our best players up until Christmas. I personally wouldn’t do it. But the system we currently play is reliant on the inside forwards to produce.. and they’re not.

James will be great regardless I think, but even if not, what you lose in James and Chilwell's attacking threat should in theory be offset by what we gain in the extra attacker being on pitch.
I think this explains why the fee looked low and why no one else was linked.
Phenomenal wages and financial package. Good player though but yeah plenty of clubs wouldn’t want to pay that.
5 year deal as well, if the reported wages of £375k are right the total cost is £147.5m including transfer fee or £29.5m a season

375k is not reported, just to avoid any confusion let me put it here.
Reported wages was "more than 300K" and then Law said he is among the top 3 paid players in the league. Considering De Gea, KdB, Salah, Ronaldo wages (350K - 400K), I just came up with rough numbers.
I mean I’m not sure what this has to do with De Gea (other than bringing United in to matters when we all know the club has been mismanaged since Sir Alex).
The point I’m making, and you’ve eluded to, is this was a massively expensive deal which explains why no other club was interested in the player. From memory Sterling gave an interview not long ago saying Real were his dream club yet in this instance it seems Chelsea were the only club prepared to pay him the mega money.
Also interesting that he must have been on something similar at City yet it’s widely reported they don’t pay big money..
I agree with you they are huge numbers and will certainly have put most teams off. I think only us and you could have met the demands.

I wouldn’t say a change as we’ve always splashed out, our big stars were on mega money up until the last title we won. However at some point when the big stars (Terry, Lampard etc) retired we did seem to move more towards a bigger squad model with lots of high wages without any being exceptionally high.
Maybe now we’re going to shrink the squad a bit but spend more on trying to achieve a higher quality eleven, like it used to be

Sorry I had the 375k mentioned for Sterling in my head. Yeah Rom is on 325k by all accounts (5 year contract though and 29, absolutely awful deal).
Found it interesting that Werner is on 272k and a big deal. Your last few windows haven’t been great really.
On aside Reece James and Mendy, arguably two of your better performers, are getting 50k per week! Big disparity.
James and Mount are reportedly both in line to receive new contracts in the near future. Would estimate they'll both get around £150-200K a week on their new contracts if/when they extend. Foden is likely going to get a similar deal from City so that should be a starting point for the negotiations.
Earlier this year there were some rumors Mendy could be the next one to be offered a new deal once those two are sorted first.
It's a big disparity at the moment but we have to remember the circumstances when their current contracts were signed. At the time James, Mount had just been called up from their Championship loans and had zero PL experience so around £50K/wk could even be seen as quite generous. Mendy on the other hand was a relatively unknown keeper who at age 28 had just two years of French top division experience on his CV so anything more would've been ridiculous. Now that he's shown he can hack it as Chelsea number one, a pay rise would be more than deserved for him as well.
Lukaku was an absolutely awful deal and I have no idea how Werner’s agent finessed 270k a week out of Chelsea. Sterling is a massive deal but also what can you do, if you wanna sign him and he’s already on 300k, then best case scenario he’s coming in on that wage, but most likely he will want an increase. This one does have the potential to turn into a big problem in a couple of seasons though, if/when Sterling declines and he still has 2-3 years left on that contract.
James is still on his first contract he signed when he broke through in 2020. He and Mount are absolutely due a new and improved contract. Same with Mendy. Big difference between signing a relatively unknown keeper from Rennes and high profile players from CL clubs.

A lot of decent defenders can get on ok in a back three. He was decent, don’t get me wrong, I just don’t think he was ever a great player, and was probably lucky to be at Chelsea.
Liverpool won the CL with Djimi Traore. It’s all about hiding those weaknesses and getting him to play a specific role. He needed that, whereas you could have put Terry in any defensive role in any team and he would have been great
