Harry & Meghan step back from Royals - seeking financial independence

I'm surprised she lasted this long. When they announced they were getting married. I just knew Meghan wouldn't hack it as a Royal. To go from an US celebrity lifestyle to a staid British stuffy one was only going to go one way.

I can see this being the beginning of the end for the monarchy, what with Andy's shenanigans and Phillip's imminent demise as well. Good riddance!

Piers Morgan going to be even more insufferable about this
It conveniently takes attention away from his support for the orange man in the white house.

Her family took the bait and were selling any story they could to cash-in on the wedding. I think it helped create the toxic media frenzy around them.

I'm more surprised by 'barbeque area' requiring inverted commas.
Knowing the Mail, it's probably meant to imply that Meghan is sacrificing people on bonfires.

How would this work for them in terms of seeing their family? Will they be able to see the Queen and the rest whenever they want?

She's already taking all blame on twatter. Poor Harry is being controlled by evil Meghan.

Somebody actually named a place 'Frogmore'? Blimey...

There are two places not a stones throw from where I live, ones called Moneyhore, the other Bastardstown.

I also know of a place called Killinaspick....

More on the real scandal - Frogmore:
Wikipedia said:
Queen Victoria had breakfast at the cottage on 28 June 1875 and noted an "immense number of little frogs" which she found "quite disgusting".
What a miserable twit she was.

Well, you guys lose Harry and Meghan but at least you keep Andrew. A bit like United's transfer strategy.

My impression is that they couldn't see the queen without an appointment in the first place.

To think off the money tax payers gave out to try and pretend he was Prince Charlie's son

 Daily Mail and Sun absolutely fuming. They've just lost a whole bunch of stories.

Good on them

And that's why I can see it being denied. Buckingham Palace statement said nothing has been decided and I'd be surprised if the queen allowed it, due to what you said above. Sets a precedent.

What are they giving up? Just the title? Or charity commitments? Or all wealth that he has inherited as a prince? Fair fecks to him if he is giving up all his wealth back to the royalty / Britain. If he's keeping the money and the castle and just the title, I don't understand but good on him

Is this just a case of him trying to step out of the British papers lime light in some way, as he won't be representing them officially. I'd assume he will still get most of the perks, just won't have the duties, and is free to do more of what they want.

Good for them. They should go a step further and abandon the UK and the Royal circus altogether. Live a happier life elsewhere.

Went on the Daily Mail website to see how they're taking it. They have 16 articles at the top of the page concerning this which you need to scroll down and pass before you can get to any other news topic. Says it all about why they want to escape this nonsense.

Gotta feel for William a bit in that at this rate he might be the king who was in power when the house of cards came crashing down. No wonder Elizabeth is looking to step down now if the rumors are to be believed. She would leave a legacy of being able to keep the royal family in place in British society through some turbulent years. Not sure William will be able to weather the next likely assault on the Royal family by those who would rather see it gone.

The best article was saying "What went wrong" saying they were loved  the audacity after they spent 2 years doing their best to make them hated

Fair fecks to them. She was a successful and presumably millionaire actress before hand and he’s put his adult life into the Army including two tours of Afghanistan. If they want to step back from Royal life and forfeit the benefits that come with that, then they are owed the right that the media and public no longer “own a piece of them“ and will hopefully back off.

They earn enough for average joes standard. But the amount of maintenance they'd need they'll be running on deficits pretty soon.

I dont think they can financially be independent anyway. Securities, protocols, royal shenagigans arent cheap and markel isnt a top a hollywood actress, even if she actively sought job i doubt hollywood would cast the queen of england (even if he's not the actual kings in line) in a movies where she need to show some skin, or indulge in some on screen romance.

How much does a military man make? I doubt it's that much for royals standard.
