I think its difficult for any player to perform once they've made a decision to leave.
Mkhi probably has similar weaknesses to what most of your other 'pretty' attacking midfielders have in terms of inconsistency and seemingly not the strongest mentally when things aren't going right for him. So he's probably not what you really need. But I would say that in terms of talent he's better than what you have (not counting Ozil), so getting him in exchange for Sanchez (and maybe OzilThat's fair enough, to be honest I have not seen Mkhi much. I know he was cracking in Football Manager.

To be fair, he hasn't sulked for 18 months. During the mid part of last season it often seemed like Sanchez was the only one still trying his heart out long after the rest of the team had completely lost focus. It was only in the final months of last season where he seemed to get sick and tired of being let down by the rest of the team and manager. Once that happened then yeah his attitude went south bigtime, but I struggle to actually blame him.

Pep would be offering him just 20mn utd could be including mkhitarayan in the deal and given ozil is also likely to leave even if wenger hates mourinho he would be foolish to accept city's while rejecting ours.
Wouldn´t it have more to do with the fact that United are closer to Arsenal and that Sanchez could certainly improve United more than City at the moment? I think Arsenal would be more hesitant to sell to United/Chelsea/Liverpool/Tottenham than City.
He did have injuries, he did have an excellent game against Real away, but he was pretty inconsistent and got substituted in some important games (semi-final against Chelsea). For example, that season was his worst goal/assist per game ratio in last 7 years. Of course, you have to put some of that down to mentioned injuries and settling down, but it wasn't great at all.
Pep factor does exist, as he wanted him then and wants him now. It must mean something to the player. But, I don't think it is big as some think.

Tbf I am not finding this news shocking as this is very similar to our summer business. As per reports, we were very close to signing Morata and a couple of hours later club release a statement that a fee has been agreed with Everton for Lukaku. Malcolm and Lucas may well have been smokescreens

If United were planning on a marquee signing to fill the #7 shirt, the club would have been looking to Griezmann at £85m etc...
Even at £35m, landing Sanchez would be achieved at a fraction of that initial cost, and would be every bit as marquee, for a player that is already Premier League experience.
