Lovely a lot of the time just a shame that he didn't score. Hit the post now in two games in a row. He is taking over from Pogba hitting the woodwork.

If all PL game is as open as this, he'll surely the best no.10 in the league, his touch, vision, and movement is certainly one of the best in the world

Great game. It's criminal how he still didn't get a goal or assist this season.

He was superb and unlucky not to score and assist. His passing and movement was superb.

I think what also helps him is having faster players around him who dont occupy positions (which has happened in previous seasons when we had strikers drop deep or too static). Juan passing is really quick and it helps ow he creates space or drifts into area with his movement to receive the ball and pop it off quickly to a player who moves ahead of him.
Tempo was great in the first half when he was surrounded by Martial, Lingard and Rashford.

It feels amazing to have a player like Juan as a backup option.

Really surprising he hasn't scored yet this season, given how many we've scored.

He's usually one of more consistent scorers.

Fantastic today.

Think he's played himself into the starting 11 again for Saturday. That was the best no 10 performance I've seen from any of our players in a long while. Not sure where this will leave Mkhitaryan.

Mkhi will be back at 10 because Jose has his favourites and because Mata is so good he can get shunted out to the right and still do decent.

I think Lukaku, Martial, Rashford, Mata and Mkhitaryan are our best five attackers. But only four can play at any one time. In terms of balance, Mata is the only one who gives us good ball retention. He'd always start, for me.

Hopefully, Mata's season starts now but it was only Burtons reserves.

Mata's maturity proven tonight. Damn he is usually very clinical, that darting low shot was beautiful! Feck the post.

There was this one pass to Martial between 2 defenders towards the end of 1st half tht was absolutely sick

We have good depth in the squad when Mkhi is not on song/needs rest we can always rely on Mata and most of the times he will deliver. Jose just needs to give our important player proper rest and we will have trophies in the end. PL would be good:drool:

This just sums up for me. From BBC - "Mata is levels and levels above this game. He'd win the Championship on his own". That's how good he was

Southampton 0:1 Man Utd
Yep, shunted out to the right again to accommodate Mkhi. Can't wait for Mkhi to play trash again, grab an assist late on and most Caftards to say he played well.

His defensive work rate has improved so much. Pressing very well, covering for Valencia, tracking his man and the ball, trying to make interceptions. Two years ago most of his defensive contribution was limited to the odd late tackle and a yellow.

He may not have the stamina to go 90 minutes most games but he's running his socks off. Constantly dropping back and central to get the ball too, especially now when Carrick, Herrera and Pogba are not on the pitch.

The amount of defensive work he does really goes unnoticed. Rushes back to help the defense every time the team loses the ball.

What makes you think that Mata would be in the middle if it wasn't for Mkhi, considering the fact he's rarely been played there by any manager since he came to us?

Has played decent. His defensive workrate has been great but hasn't contributed a lot to the attacking buildup. Having said that hasn't been constantly losing the ball like Mkhi

I thought he was our worst performer in the first half. Gave the ball away cheaply several times (not the only player to do so).

He did lose the ball a few times, to be fair. Very good defensively though - they've had no joy down that side. He's pushing them inwards with his pressing early on.

Hes playing okay but nothing like we saw against burton as to be expected

Prime candidate to be taken off for Herrera later on, provided we're still up at that point. He's been a bit quiet so far.
