Why are we loaning our first team bench?

fecking hell, our bench is going to be Championship standard at this rate.

2 GK on the bench, injury prone Bailly, OAP in Mata, Matic, injury prone Cavani etc etc.

Not good!

The Greenwood news means we realistically need to keep Lingard until the end of his contract now, short otherwise.

Pretty much means we need to keep Lingard now to have 2 players per position in attack.
Ronaldo/Cavani
Elanga/Rashford Sancho/Lingard

Doubt we'd have loaned Martial if the Greenwood news had come out earlier. Will be very hard to compete on all fronts till the end of the season with this attack.

Midfield looks thin too with just Bruno, Fred, McT. We have a run of games where we play Spurs, Atleti and Liverpool in March. With Pogba now doing guest appearances, it really does look like we'll have to throw on Matic in one or more of these games and that's not even taking into account possible injuries. Doesn't even look like we'll get an Ighalo type signing this time around. Is there anyone other than Hannibal who might break into the first team in a few weeks time?

Saving grace arguably in Pogba supposed to be back after the break but we do look short if all deals go through, including Lingard.

CB options of Bailly/Varane/Victor/Maguire

Midfield options of: Fred/McTom/Pogba/Matic/Bruno/Hannibal?

And forward options of: Cavani/Ronaldo/Sancho/Rashford/Elanga/Mata.

There does look enough there normally, but given injury proneness with 1 or 2 of them and the likelihood of another covid outbreak we could probably do with 1 or 2 in to cover those positions.

Squad looks a lot worse now than a few weeks ago. Obviously there is a plan in mind, a faster clear out of the fringe technical players and bring in hungrier and harder working / higher physicality players.

Did we forget to flip the page an that plan and actually bring in those hungrier harder working players?

It seems like the decision makers at the club sit down every month and think how can we make this worse. And I have to give it to them they always find a way.

What are we gonna do with no bench, where are the players and staff gonna sit?
They may have to raid the canteen for those nasty plastic chairs they always seem to have in highschools.
It's just not good enough, Ralf out.

Possibly keep Lingard but can't see any major incomings until the summer.
I'm fine with this business, the players leaving don't really have a future with the club, it's time things were shaken up.
Someone made a point about needing hungrier players and he's absolutely right.

I actually think we've made good use of loans for once and each player has gone to a club which suits both their own needs and the club's. Amad is a very good prospect who needs to adapt to both British football and the senior game - we've secured him a loan at a British club who see plenty of the ball and where he'll get plenty of gametime. Martial wants to leave and we want a decent fee - we've secured him a loan to a team and league where he'll have a great chance to show his best form. Van De Beek seemingly hasn't convinced Rangnick he's a viable option at central midfield in the Premier League - we've lined him up a great opportunity to prove he can hack it when given a run of games at a struggling club.

It's unlikely that the absence of any of Amad, Martial or Van De Beek is going to make or break our season. Admittedly, the forward line looks a bit light now after the events of the last week, but there's no way we could have predicted that.

RR will bring some of the under 23 in the squad . Let's just see who he brings in. But my guess lingard didn't go because 1 they couldn't get the amount they wanted, 2 after the news of Greenwood, they were more than happy to keep him. And leave him go on a free in summer.

If you look back to last season when he was at West Ham, some of the guys ie Bruno was running out of gas, and he could have played to rest Bruno and a few others . He's off in the summer anyway.

VDB wasn’t getting a look in
Martial wants to play and doesn’t want to be on the bench
Diallo couldn’t make matchday squads

I don’t see the issue really

We weren’t to know what was going to Happen with Greenwood

Get Shoretire and Mejbri into the match day squads .

This is how United operate:
  1. Buy average over priced players and give them huge contracts and contract lengths.
  2. Even though they have been playing absolutely crap for three years lets give them a massive pay rise and new long term contract that no other club would give them.
  3. Oh no we did it again. After five years here we finally realize there not good enough but how come no one wants to buy them now with the massive salaries there on.
  4. Okay no one wants to buy them as there no where near worth the salary there on and the asking price united originally bought them for so at least we'll get someone else to pay there wages and let their contracts run down.
  5. Rinse and Repeat.

Agree to those points. It is time to put a stop with all these nonsense. Why Jones and Mata is still in this club is beyond me? This starts with having a good supply of youth talent. Once we can bring in 1-2 talents each year, we won't need to pay ridiculous wages and fee for almost all players we want. That's what Alex brought in, Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Butt, Neville brother, Brown, O'Shea and shrewd buying of Ronaldo, Rooney. Alex invested heavily and use them until they were done. That's need to be our recipe to success.

One game and we’ve ended up with Juan Mata and Phil Jones back on the field. Impressive

Let’s not pretend that martial or VDB coming on with 15 minutes to go would have changed that. Our issue is not squad depth or individual player quality.

In discussions people here can be so foolishly shortsighted. We actually have a decent group of bench players but they want to sell everyone that isn't world class. Do people even realise squad players are hard to replace because no one buys first teamers who aren't good enough to start.

Literally just one game ago Martial was one of the subs that changed our last 15 minutes

Martial could've. Literally did it in our last game.

But the new manager will get to choose his own squad of players... for the Europa Conference League.

In a move that came from our own box, he passed the ball 2 yards to Cavani in between six other passes. I like martial, but it’s a stretch to say he changed the game.

Self sabotage

How the hell with the squad we started the season with did that game end with Mata and Elanga as our wingers and RR is moving into an advisory role next season? Fecking hell kill me now

He did, though. He added some much needed composure to our selfish attack. Anyone else (bar probably Sancho) wouldn't have used the overlap. It's all about cutting in and shooting.

Wonder how many people in here moaning about shifting a few players on have used the word ‘deadwood’ once or twice in this forum.

I bet it’s more than a few.

" Martial was one of the subs that changed our last 15 minutes", I'm sure you saw the underlined bit however let's not pretend one 2 yard pass was all he did in that game. Having a ball carrier and facilitator added a different dimension to our attack. The Rashford/Ronaldo attack just doesn't work. Worse yet they don't make anyone else better and I'm dreading watching both start every game the rest of the season.

Wish he’d let Lingard and Cavani go instead. cnuts.

There’s just so much evidence over the last 18 months to say that this is very much not the case usually when he comes on.

But we didn't crash out of the first round of every domestic cup. Bench options are also meant to be a sub not a do over. He simply has to be better than any one of the washed players coming off our bench. Moving every squad player is peak idiocy when your first teamers are themselves barely better than squad players. Also when they fit this poorly.

Our season is now completely in the hands of Rahford/Ronaldo/Sancho who themselves are having mediocre seasons. Now even after we establish the two don't work together there'll be nowhere to pivot. Tbf I'm more angry with the players for leaving us high and dry when we needed them to earn their check but I'm also a bit irritated with the team making other average performers undroppable.

I like Martial, but I think in his current mindset it would be difficult to get anything out of him. The squad is a mess I agree, but I just don’t think it would have made much of a difference tonight. We have seen that same game so many times, against stronger opposition granted, but at this point it feels like it doesn’t matter who we’re playing.

No we didn't miss them. We didn't miss them all year and it certainly doesn't start now.

Another game where our lack of depth costs us. Relying on Lingard and Elanga to win us games is, to the surprise of no one, going to cost us. Never mind having only Mejbri on the bench as a cm option who we're never going to use in a game like this.
