Why are we loaning our first team bench?

The CAF: Get rid of our deadwood!

Also the CAF: Why are we getting rid of our deadwood! We need them in case of injuries!

The January strategy is to deflate the bloated squad that has accumulated over the last 5 years. Hopefully the summer will be to enhance it.

Its unfair on a human level to stockpile senior players you have no intention of playing if they want to play. Also bad for squad morale.

None of them were used anyway - it's ridiculous how big our squad is and how much money we waste on wages. Not to bash Ole further but God knows why he refused to let players go and hoard so many.

Pogba will be back soon and I'd assume Hannibal gets promoted so we'd still have enough depth (other than DM). Assuming all those players leave...

De Gea/Heaton

Dalot/AWB
Varane/Maguire/Lindelof/Bailly
Shaw/Telles

Mctominay/Matic
Bruno/Hannibal
Pogba/Fred

Greenwood/Sancho
Rashford/Elanga
Ronaldo/Cavani

Martial's the only one we'll miss. And I don't think VdB is going out on loan?

I will not hit the panic button until after the close of the transfer window. That said, the panic button is on standby.

It's not a problem, we have two players for every position and a few players that can play multiple positions. + There's the academy. I wouldn't mind seeing Shola get some minutes, for example.

None of the players we loaned out are important bench players.

I think lingard will likely stay too

Getting rid of all the players mentioned in OP is not a problem. Not getting any players in (in particular, mids) is a huge problem.

Hopefully fill the bench with better options. One or two new youngsters added and bring in a new DM.

We suddenly look a little light in the wide forward positions. I guess Pogba will probably play there a fair bit, but otherwise we now have an out-of-confidence Rashford, an out-of-form Sancho and Elanga for two spots.

The players who have gone, or may possibly go during this window, aren't ever involved anyway. We'd still have two players in every position

Rashford/Elanga-----Ronaldo/Cavani-----Greenwood/Sancho
Bruno/Hannibal-----McTominay/Matic-----Fred/Pogba
Shaw/Telles-----Maguire/Lindelof-----Varane/Bailly-----Dalot/Wan-Bissaka
De Gea/Heaton

I’d have kept Martial even prior to the news this morning. He’s a better player than Rashford, in my view, and could have chipped in over the remaining months.

You’re talking as if ‘The Caf’ is one entity! You do realise different people have different opinions?

From having a bloated squad, we do suddenly look short now. Sancho better buck his ideas up and quick. Rashford luckily seems to be improving.

Problem is that most of these players will be back in the summer and difficult to permanently shift

After the news today
We need to keep Lingard and VDB
I would have kept Martial but eh
We are run so badly at the moment
We are 1 midfield or striker injury short of of a crises

Fred, Matic, McTominay, Pogba
Bruno, Lingard, Rashford, Sancho, Elanga
Ronaldo, Cavani

11 players for 6 positions should be enough cover for the next 4 months (I've never understood why people call end of January to end of May for '6 months'). Issue isn't lack of numbers but a lot of these being off the boil.

It’s because we never rotate and use the squad, and we have players who actually want to play and who aren't content with just sitting there getting a couple of minutes every week to pick up a wage. If we actually played DVB and Henderson etc every now and again they wouldn’t be looking to get out. If you then say well they aren’t good enough, then whats the problem?

because of the dressing room situation.
-We got knocked out of the league cup very early so a lot of games these players should have played got sliced off our fixture list.
- Ole didn't rotate well enough in the other competitions to offset this.
- It's a world cup year so many players need to play regularly to get called up.
-With only half a season left Ralf would need 11 substitutes every game to even get some players any kind of sizable playing time circling back to how mismanaged the squad was for the first half.

Don’t think keeping Martial was a choice. Damage was done. He wanted out. Needs to play for World Cup. Same with Donny.

With the horrible news about Greenwood this morning, along with Martial and Diallo going will we be a bit light in attack? Rashford, Ronaldo, Cavani, Sancho, Elanga, Mata? Lingard. I wonder if there’s another wide player in the academy that would be ready to step up if needed.

If everyone in OP leaves our squad is:

DDG, Heaton (Grant)
Dalot, AWB, Telles, Shaw
Maguire, Lindelof, Varane, Bailly
Matic
Fred, McTominay, Pogba
Bruno, Mata
Elanga, Rashford, Sancho, Cavani, Ronaldo Greenwood*

So 22 players, 23 including Grant, which is about right, although the Greenwood news maybe leaves us an attacker short so maybe Lingard will stay.

Ideally we obviously need a proper DM too, and Mata and Matic need replacing too but that will likely happen in the summer.

There's a few promising youngsters as well who could come into the equation if needed (although admittedly those closest to 1st team are out on loan). I guess of the youngsters not out on loan, Mejbri and Shoretire are closest and I wouldn't mind them getting a game or 2 in attacking positions, but I'd be a bit worried about an injury crisis to defence or central/defensive midfield.

Based on the negative noises coming out of the squad recently, presumably the club have decided to get rid of the source of that negativity. At least until a permanent manager is chosen and can make the decision whether to get rid permanently or not.

If we loan them out and then get unlucky with injuries, I'm happy calling on our youth at that point. However there may be recall options built into the loan deals to prepare for an injury crisis.

Depends what you’re classing as the attacking positions as that’s six players for three positions, not forgetting that Pogba has played on the left previously too.

The midfield is still the issue really.

I believe he will become an asset for you but I said he wouldn’t hit the ground running even before you signed him. Young wingers are quite possibly the most inconsistent out of any position. Robben made an instant impact, I don’t think Ronaldo did (could be wrong). Those two turned out ok.

Amad would have benefited from the space in the squad. This does mean we will have to go for a striker in the summer. Along with 2 midfielders.

They're leaving so talented ones like Greenwood or Elanga will have even more game time and tbh feels like the right way to go, especially after adding Ronnie & Sancho to first squad on top of it.

Not sure what Cavani's true fitness level is, perhaps there's probability he'll get injured again, but somebody from younger group of players needs to step up and it'll be perfect chance for it.
Update - Even more time on the pitch for Elanga. This is truly his chance, he may not receive a better opportunity to shine than this.

Ralf: The squad is bloated. Too many players

Club: Ok. We will send some on loan

Club: We have loaned first team bench and kept the crocks that no one would take on loan

Ralf: Unbelievable!!!
