Which player do you find hardest to dislike?

Fred- no matter whether he is having good day or bad day, he never stops trying and working hard. Always shows up for the ball even on bad days and probably the most optimistic player in the world, always stands next to free kick taker even though chances of him getting chance is less than 1%.

Can't beat his enthusiasm

Great shout, love Fred - can always guarantee he will put in a shift and his quality is way higher than most people think. He's just a confidence player, and once he makes a mistake his head goes, but the effort never declines.

The other one for me would be Bruno. Incredibly talented but backs it up with hard work.

Can't think of many others, maybe Lindelof - aside from the odd terrible performance there's not loads about him to dislike.

Greenwood too, I don't see the same 'laziness' that gets mentioned a lot - just an incredibly talented young player who needs to learn still.

Rashford would have been on this list, but he looks like he doesn't give a toss anymore and I question how much of his personality is just PR fluff.

Fred, Shaw and Greenwood. Three players who I always defend, even though I know that they aren't always perfect. Sancho too. Make that four.

Cavani. I couldn't hate him. Gives 100% when on the pitch. Great attitude. Born winner. Seems to me to be the leader when he is playing.

Rashford and Fred - different ways, but I see an optimism and drive in them (and a lot of currently unrealised talent in Marcus). Though I admit that right now I'm feeling more sorry for them, than impressed by them. They look so confused and helpless at the moment.

The rest, I'm pretty sure I can dislike if I set my mind to it. Which I probably won't do, as I like to start matches feeling excited not like I don't care. I think if I hated the players rather than ignored them, it would be hard to care about the kickoff time.

Haven't seen him play for a while but I've always liked Juan Mata. He always seems positive, puts energy into tackling to get the ball back, good servant type for Manchester United.

I don't think I love anyone at the club, as a player or a human. But I'll try:

De Gea, Lindelof, Mata, Matic, Jones (I really respect their professionalism, and I think they give their best without complaining and seems like balanced human beings that I could be friends with)

Fred (gives his all, every time)

Greenwood (one of our own, supremely talented, and one I would pay to watch)

The rest I pretty much dislike tbh.

Matic literally came out moaning to the press as soon as Ole stopped picking him for a few games. Only reason he hasn't moaned since is because we keep playing him in spite of him not being able to do his job...although I wouldn't blame him for that part as I don't think it's that he doesn't try, I just think picking him in a two man midfield is supremely stupid.

I think it would be Lindelof for me. He just seems like a cool, calm individual who's easy to like. I also think he's very underrated. He's obviously not world-class or anything close to it, but I think he's the second best defender we have (after Varane) but is often scapegoated. I think he's very steady and fairly consistent and has a great pass on him.

It was Rashford but his arm waving and sulky performances have put me right off him now.

I still like Ronaldo, because he's ridiculously good, Cavani for the work rate and hair, Greenwood because he's from our academy, Bruno because he seems to care.

Fred and McTominay because they get so much shite off the fans and media but both work hard and neither actually does anything wrong.

Honestly I'm struggling. These are basically just the players I don't have a disliking towards.

I mean I had a soft spot for Jones the ohter night just because he hadn't played in so long.

I still love Diego Forlan

As an antidote to Dwazza’s negativity (boo!) which player do you consistently have a soft spot for, even in the midst of our most shambolic performances?

For me it’s Fred. No matter how shit he plays I never feel like he’s giving anything less than 100%. Plus he seems like a nice, friendly bloke. Second place goes to DDG. Not sure why. But reasons don’t have to be rational in this thread.
Absolutely, its Fred for me. Gives 100% no matter what and displays a great attitude, love that little dude. Next would be Bruno, again, gives 100% for this club and brings a fighter's spirit each and every game.

Fred.

He doesn't have elite ability on the ball, he never will. But one thing you can never accuse him of is not working hard. A shame his more talented team mates don't have the same mentality.
Can you imagine Pogba with Fred's motor and competitiveness?? Would be scary.

If it’s a question of who is most personally likeable, rather than who you can't dislike for his playing ability, it has to be Juan Mata for me, one of the nicest people in football.
There are a few others I would defend, though, and I would find it hard to accuse them of not caring. DDG, Cavani, McT, Lindelöf and Fred all strike me as very genuine, and in Rashford's case, it's difficult to believe that someone who has put so much effort into helping others is only doing it for publicity, so I'd find him hard to dislike.

This is why Fred’s on so many people’s lists, I wish other players showed his commitment and professionalism

I haven't picked up any moaning. To me, he seems like a top pro and a good bloke but maybe I've missed something.

You missed a couple of years ago where he literally came out and gave an interview to the press moaning and passive aggressively warning Solskjaer that he should play more because he wasn't picked for literally 3 games: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9870547/nemanja-matic-ole-gunnar-solskjaer-man-utd-title/

Then when he does play he goes and hides in the defence and cripples the team.

In fairness to him I did find a more recent interview where he defends Fred and McTominay so I'll give him some credit points back but he certainly isn't on my exemption list. He's one of the biggest problems this squad has...just debatable how much of that is down to poor management rather than him (and in fairness I'd argue quite a lot since I don't exactly think he doesn't try his best...he just isn't nearly mobile enough to play in a midfield two)

If the answer isn’t Juan Mata then you’re wrong. He’s a lovely man.

I don't rate him particularly high anymore, but the thread was about who I like and not. I don't want him to be here coming the summer, and not Mata amongst others as well.

Harry Maguire. Again, I can't understand the vitriol from some of our 'supporters'.

See through the pages above you have people praising Fred (terrible but works hard), Mata (nice guy but when did he last contribute something on the pitch for his £160K p/w), Ronaldo (legend but seems to be the cause of the recent unrest, or at least, part of the cause)....I could go on...

Yet the one lad who seems to be criticised constantly is Maguire. Sure, he's not been at his best this season, but which player has? Why are we so quick and willing to forgive the flaws or faults of other players, but not Maguire? For the most part, since signing for us, he's been a critical part of the 1st team, has played injured, is nearly always available and always puts his body on the line. I just don't get the hate, it's borderline weird.

I find it hard to dislike Matic as well. Even when he complained about playing time he did it with a smile and a shrug. As if to say, I could help if you let me. Then when Ole did play him he delivered for about 6 months or so and played very well. Then of course he signed a new contract and performances have declined ever since.

But, I still feel whenever he's out there he does his best. He never seems to let pressure or the situation effect him negatively. Just goes about his business calmly. Albeit sometimes so calmly he makes the sloth in Zootopia seem fast.....

I reason with Pogba because I’d likely be as pissed off as him if I were in his position

He should have had a career with PL and CL titles and we’ve wasted it. I’m sure he’ll be gone this summer but I won’t blame him much.

Cavani, across two clubs, because he's just the classiest guy you could ask to have in your team. Fully invested, never gives less than 100%, and goes beyond his role on the field to try and inspire and teach younger players on the squad. The man is a gem of a human being.

  • De Gea
  • Lindelof
  • Bailly
  • Fred
  • Bruno
  • Mata
  • Lingard
  • Rashford
  • Greenwood
Obviously not all of them are good enough, could ask for better work rate from the 2 attackers too... But generally I dunno, just have a hard time disliking them. Either homegrown guys who clearly love the club, or just play their heart out, or just genuinely seem like decent guys who don't cause a fuss.

Fred, Mata, Dalot, Cavani, Telles.

Reckon a team with that spine would make top half ?

Fred, Pogba.

The latter gets so much unnecessary hatred it’s bizarre, both just seem decent people and good professionals which is echoed by their peers.

Hard to dislike: -

  • Academy lads, Rashy, Scotty, Jesse & Mason, hard to dislike them
  • DDG & Jones, last remnants of the glory era led by SAF.
  • Mr. Nice Guy - Mata
  • Fred, despite his limitation he always gives his all.
  • Martial, even though I don't think he's good enough now, that debut game & goal vs the dippers is memorable, and for that I can't dislike him.

the rest I don't really hate or dislike but I also don't really like them as much as the ones above.

One thing I feel towards them without exception is that I'm disappointed with how they performed this season as a collective.

Fred and Cavani. They always give it their all. Mata cause he really seems to be a nice bloke.

Yeah, for me Fred, Cavani, De Gea and Lindelof. And maybe Pogue Mahone (for his name and for 'bollockology').

Edit- and I like Varane, too...and Greenwood, though not sure why exactly.

Lindelof seems ok. Cavani as well. I like Shaw and Maguire in a white shirt but not so much at United. The jury‘s out on Sancho and Greenwood, the rest can do one, including St Marcus.

Bruno. There's a winner in him, and high standards he wants to live up to, and that's hard to hate on for me.

He made us go to a level we haven't seen in years last year, so he has a very long life line with me, although he doesn't always perform to his best.
