Have been having loads of problems with AOL with the connection going down, spent a fortune on their tech side, though on the plus side I now know how to reaet the router myself. Everytime it went down they said to reset router and they would check the line and told me to wait 24 hours, usually the connectopn came back within 1 hour and lasted about a day.
Then they tried to blame my socket! Then it seemed okay, then I asked for a MAC code(was gonna go with 02 but not sure now) and guess what? after that the problem was worse than ever.
I called again and said I had changed my mind about the MAC code and they checked the line again etc (they wouldnt do it otherwise). Well, what do you know, its been back on and no problems so far. Seems all too coincidental for me!! So am leaving it a week before getting MAC code again.
Anyway, what Broadband would you recommend? Any you have had problems with that I should saty away from?

Virgin are alright in my experience, though it depends where you live. It's not ADSL, either, which is lovely.

At Uni they were bastards, because they'd over-subscribed the street, though at the same time that's not entirely their fault because they probably didn't expect six students per house thrashing it. Here at home, though, they're generally very good.

Yeah I was looking at Virgin. I probably would have gone for the whole media package but I canna get cable. Just been looking at their options again on the website and I think I might go with them.

I've heard a lot of people that have been annoyed with Virgin, a few of my friends would complain about how the line would drop and how the customer service wasnt that good. IMO i would recommend O2, i've just moved there from BT and think its brilliant - no download limits, cheap price (even cheaper if you have a O2 mobile contract) and from what i have experienced so far the customer service has been very helpful

One reason why I thought again about 02 is that they seem to charge for tech support. Two rates as a one off call or you can pay monthly. Not sure if they charge for the call as well? I am an 02 customer though.
What do you reckon on the tech support bit?

TBH you could be right, i was only talking from a service point of view

I agree with most people here its out of o2 and Virgin. I was with O2 for 16 months and the customer service is great. The only problem I had was the speed dropping at peek times but that was rare its vvery cheep aswell. I had to cancel because I cant get O2 here I went with the Virgin TV, Phone and broadband package. I've been with them for 7 weeks not had one problem well thee service went down but that was an area affected problem with Virgin not me. I would go for the Virgin fibre optic cable broadband if you can get it you always get the max speed so its great if your a gamer or download you can get 50mb allot but O2 are a great option.

Been with Virgin for TV, phone, broadband and mobiles for yonks and not had any problems.

be are the best because of the 3 month contract

Means if you want out there's little hassle.

Giving this a bump as i want to change Broadband provider. Im with a company called Madasafish - they were recommended a couple of years back.

Last year i was on an offer, £10 a month, though i have a 20gb download limit which is a bit shit. Service is good, but its not very fast, fast enough for me though. They are now bumping it up to the normal rate of £25.

O2 are doing 20mb unlimited for £9.79 for O2 customers (which i am), with 3 months free.

This seems almost too good.

Anyone else with O2? Whats the service like?

Also, on the Broadband speed test sites, i get 3.5mb download speed currently - though my package should be upto 8mb. Will i get alot better with another company if i go for a package with 20mb, or am i limited because of my distance from the exchange etc?

I'm on that exact package. Its absolutely fantastic. This is the first time in my life when i've had no issues setting the thing up, the router is professional not that stupid bt newbhub and the connection speeds are excellent where i am. I'm able to get speeds of 1.4mb/second which means i can download a film (700mb) in about 8 minutes, no download limits and no sign of throttling yet. Its been 6 months and i couldnt be happier with it.

in terms of your speed, you never get the advertised speed, thats just its maximum capacity.

I'd go with O2 or Virgin. When I was with O2 they were great but had to go to Virgin can't get O2 in my area.

Have you gone to the O2 website put your postcode in there to see whats the best package you could get. I could only get 2.9 living far from an exchange but I had to pay for 8mb. But if you want really big speed go with Virgin im with 20mb now always get 20mb if your as big gamer there is the 50mb.
