Where are the United incomings?

Are we really going to go into the 2nd half of the season with 3 wide players out???

So that leaves us:

Ronaldo
Rashford
Cavani
Sancho
Elanga
Fernandes
Mata
Lingard (possibly out)

7 players across the front 4 positions is leaving it a bit thin...

I mean at this stage should we just keep Jones as a backup DM for when one/two/all three of McFrec and Matic inevitably get injured in the next 2 games?

I heard rumblings that they may stall Lindgard to keep him here, amazing what the damage the Greenwood debacle could create.

never thought we would bring anyone in this window, and actually surprised they loaned so many out.

Is it the work of poor scouts or poor managers. We chased Sancho since he was 16 then we throw him into the starting 11 and hope he does what he did in Dortmund. Same with Pogba the fact he spent his United career with questions of where he would play best says to me we didn't have a plan on how he would fit in. Look at Bruno a player who is about instinct comes in and hits the ground running. It must be hard identifying players when we don't have a system. To me it seems that we throw players in and hope in works.

We need a rw buy Sancho, no plans on how he will fit in.
Need goals get Cr7 we will throw him in as our 9 and he will score.
We need to improve on lindelof buy Varane and we will concede less.

A system makes average players like cleverley, Anderson, Welbeck look better than they are. A system at Liverpool has led players we thought as average win titles.
Good post.

The issue isn't the scouts imo, but rather the direction at decision making level, which has seen us target players from clubs who don't need to sell. And the decisions and direction on the football side have been with the Managers. Mourinho had his own personal scouts as reported by Jason Burt, and Solskjaer had his own personal scout.

The scouts are only as good as the decisions that are made at the top.

With regards to lack of cover on the right side. I don't know why we don't just recall Pellistri from Alaves as that loan is doing him no good and he is getting very few minutes playing for the Spanish equivalent of Burnley. We might as well let him get some coaching here and have some minutes off the bench to rotate our wide options.

You're forgetting a certain Frenchman who only seems to play outside these days. He's back now.

With Pogba that’s 2 players for every position. How many more do we need? It’s midfield we need more than the frontline imo

Some people really don't understand the notion of a 'clear-out'. The point is to end up with fewer senior players. Something with almost every poster on this forum has noted as necessary because our squad is bloated.

In fact, most of this forum understands a 'clear-out' in a similar manner to how my fiance understands a 'clear-out' of her mountain of clothes i.e. throw two or three things out, buy five or six more outfits!

What this demonstrates is that the club are bang on not appointing Ralf as permanent manager and are 100 miles away from knowing who the next manager will be. I kind of understand why they have not signed anyone, in the hope that some money is put away for summer for the new gaffer to mould the squad but it does feel this is more about reducing the wage bill than anything else.

If Lingard goes too ill be amazed we dont bring someone in on loan or perm last minute. Reducing numbers of a bloated squad is one thing, reducing the wage bill significantly is another, surely a move for Kamara makes sense..

Despite the uncertainty surrounding who the next manager will be, i was hoping we’d take a relatively risk-free punt on someone with potential like Fabio Carvalho from Fulham.

I've been thinking similar, though I can understand why people would be miffed that they didn't bring in one player in an area of pressing need. The team has been needing a proper clear out of players excess to requirements for a couple of years. In the summer Lingard and Pogba are likely gone, maybe Matic and likely Mata. Aside from that we've loaned out players who'll still be under contract and will be coming back. So whilst they are clearly trying to work towards slimming the squad it's half a job so far.

The squad was bloated to begin the season anyway. If Utd saw players like Kamara and Zakaria on the table for £10m or less and didn't think they were right, that's their evaluation I guess, they've seen them play more than I have so I won't argue. I have to admit, that Zakaria, even in the last six months of his contract, going for €7m makes me wonder if he's actually as good as people would have us believe. Who knows?

Part of the problem is the club has brought in players who really aren't good enough, I don't see the point of continuing in that vein just because they're on the cheap.

This is classic Rangnick, making room for the youth.

These players all needed to leave. They weren't playing. They're unhappy. Everybody said the same thing a couple weeks ago, but now it's a problem? The main two issues have been losing Mason and not bringing in a #6. Nobody could have accounted for Mason being unavailable. Even without him, I think we will be okay in the forward positions. Pogba can and has played on the left for us. Rashford isn't great there, but he can do a job on the right if needs be. Sancho can play both wings. Elanga can at least play on the left. In exceptional circumstances, we'd have to call on Mata. Ronaldo and Cavani will share the #9 role.

I'm very concerned about the midfield, though. If we have injuries and need to count on Matic, we're in serious trouble. He shouldn't even be at the club. Nevermind having to rely on him to play multiple games in a row. A #6 is needed. McT and Fred have to stay healthy for the rest of the season.

I agree with this and I would argue we really need to sign at least two CMs, if not three. However, it just doesn't really make much sense to be looking at making signings now, predominantly because we don't yet know who the new manager might be, or even what RRs role at the club will be moving forward.

Personally, I would hope that James Garner can come in and take 4th/5th CM position next year. Showed enough in two seasons in the Championship and versus Arsenal in the cup to suggest he should get a shot, rather than clinging onto the likes of Matic for another season

Reduce the wage bill and give 3 players who may still have a future here some badly needed football. It's actually been a decent window for us. Sure, we'd all like to see some star player arriving but that was never likely to be happening. This squad is still more than good enough to secure 4th and we still have CL knockouts to look forward to.

I certainly hope that this is the case. Seeing a young player come through is always more exciting to me than most of the signings we make.

I feel the same, and I hope we see a number of youth integrated into the team.

Time for Sancho to step up and show us what he is about.....

A simple post, but still post of the day. It is time for Sancho to step up. Mata can back him up. And if need be we can move Rashford to the right when Pogba comes back. Pogba actually did a job for us on the left for a while.

There may be a hidden genius in shrinking the squad through the end of the season. With Ralf being interim manager only, it was never likely we’d bring in a big name in this window.

I think we have to realise that we are in a rebuild mode. We have a bloated squad as per RR and need to trim. VdB gone for the season, JL will be gone to Newcastle by the end of the night it seems. Greenwood also gone. So, I think we essentially have to "write off" 2021/22 and hope for a fluke in the CL (but with no expectations), and a top 4 in the league - not beyond us. I think we'll ship out half a dozen more in the summer, some will leave of their own accord, and will sign 2 or 3 hungry younger players to begin a proper reset.

Wouldn’t make sense to sign anyone without knowing who next manager will be. We need to swap quantity for quality and concentrating on trying to get players out of the door is first step.

So we'll have to "write off" the season, except for the fact we are still in the CL and we'll want to finish top 4 so we're in it again next season. We'll just forget we're in the FA Cup too as who wants to win trophies. Ok then.

Mata hasn’t kicked a ball all season. Lingard is almost certainly leaving. Cavani is made of glass. Ronaldo is 37. Elanga is a kid just starting out. Sancho and Rashford have been very poor this season….. Whilst our two greatest rivals have both considerably strengthened their forward positions in this window. FFS.

Yes, the club should expect there is no Top4 this season and the income dropped due to no CL next season then, no way the squad keeping that intensity vs West Ham under the current Midfield in every matches without strengthening.
Also, the identified players will be unknown to sign to the club if we don't join CL next season but big money again..
It is a fecking poor management in a global company!

Agree but realistically who could they sign in January that walks straight into the team?

Apparently reports in Germany say Ralf wanted to add Haidara to the squad but the United board declined since RR is only an interim.

I like to think we already have an idea who’s going to be our next manager but I also like to think I’m a billionaire with a massive cock so…

I see various other clubs have managed to sign midfielders - what about this guy Tottenham have got for 15 million is he any good?

We haven't signed a Jota type in years even Amad was expensive. What about the Robertsons of this world, cheap and been a fantastic signing for them.

I was actually excited by VDB and Sancho.

Wonder where we'd be if we actually appointed a director of football a few years ago...

We needed a midfielder, could have got Zakaria or Haidara. Other teams have strengthened and we haven’t.

Only spurs have strengthened in this window to date. To be honest, most signings (apart from Bruno) can take months and some even a season to come to terms with a new country, manager and players. We also know this league is notoriously difficult to come to terms with and we might not even see them this season. I’m guessing a fit Pogs gives us another option too…

As a Manutd fan, I am totally depressed by our cluelessness in this transfer window.

Zakaria went to Juventus for just £3m , Boubacar Kamara and Kessie are both available for below £10m each and Bissouma the best tackler in the league is available for just around £35-£40m or getting Arthur melo on loan yet we are looking lost in the window.

Look at Liverpool and Mancity, despite the gap in quality between them and us yet they are still far more proactive than us when it comes to transfer.

Dear Glazers, go splash your dream £100m on Declan Rice in the summer and give us the midfield maguire horror show again.
