It is hard to watch events unfolding where several of our competitors work hard to bring in major reinforcements, while all we do is unload players. Not that I think we shouldn't, and it may even very well be that moving out players who are disgruntled will amount to addition by subtraction. And we do have a major challenge in having accumulated far too many excess pieces. The list of players we need to lose runs into very nearly a two-digit figure. Though Martial and vd Beek is being loaned out so far, that should help facilitate sales down the line.
You'd think (given that we have a real shot at top 4 but that it will be hard to achieve) that it would make sense to address one of the major areas, notably RB and CM. If vdB is moved out and with Pogba still injured, there are even very real short term depth issues at CM.

It's interesting to see clubs around us desperately attempting to strengthen and we're happy to sit back and do nothing and get left behind, I suspect we've given up on the season already.
We're fecked in the summer too. With Greenwood's career in tatters the scale of investment needed in the summer will be huge with Cavani also needing to be replaced, on top of the entirely new midfield we'll need to buy. I don't think the Glazers will have the stomach to keep investing in the team at the rate they'll need to, only a matter of time until they throw in the towel and sell up one would hope.
Well we can always bid 60M on an average player on the last day and get him in. And then get surprised when we see average performance.

It would be nice to bring in a central midfielder of some form by tomorrow. I feel like a major injury to one of McTominay, Fred or Matic puts us in an awful position to finish this cursed season.
Baffling if we don't do any business when its quite obvious we need to. Never the best feeling going into the second half of the season when you feel like we're not in the greatest position to achieve much.

Why are we loaning one of the few midfielders we have in VDB. What if McT or Fred get injured?

It pisses me off that we spent 35m for a central midfielder, possibly as Pogba’s successor, whom we never gave a proper chance, even during Pogba’s long absences while injured, while Fred and McTominay shat their pants. Then we loan out that central midfielder, while Pogba is still out with injury, with no real prospect of a central midfielder being brought in. Oliver, meet Hardy.
We're not making top 4 without a midfield signing now. Without CL, Ronaldo for sure is leaving (and he will be 37) and we will have much more difficulty bringing in top players.
No idea what Arnold, Murtough, Fletcher (is this his job? I have no idea), and Woody (who is now apparently a "consultant") are thinking here.
Hope we can get either of Bissouma or Neves. Both at inflated price but we need a good engine in that midfield

More time on the training pitch with Ralf will make a difference, some random January midfield signing won’t, just as Sancho didn’t, Varane didn’t, Mata didn’t, Sanchez didn’t etc etc etc.

The outlook isn't good. Just right now, we clearly need an upgrade on RB, a credible No 6 and a replacement for Mason, if we want to be a true top 4 team. Come summer, we will additionally need, at the very least, replacements for Cavani and Pogba. Even with loose pursestrings, there is no way all of those will be met in a single window.

There's no sign of any life in this transfer window in terms of us bringing anyone in. We're going to come out of it with a much weaker squad.

The marketing people of Utd love it whenever the brand is mentioned so they are not going to shut down any exposure.
