What would be your Worst Man Utd XI of the last 20 years?

No hate for Kieran Richardson or have people just forgotten his existence? I dreaded every game he started.

Edit: only just seen the post above.

Whens Fred going in there? 54 million quid for a midfielder who cant play a 10 yard ground pass
Doesn’t belong anywhere near it.

Same goes for Maguire. Some absolute ridiculouss shouts here.

Hard to pic a 1-11 as some positions have been ok.

But here is Top Ten worst players. Liam Miller, Fangzhou Dong, Regan Poole, Ritchie De Laet, Gabriel Obertan, Mame Diouf, Manucho, Bebe, Jose Kleberson, Alexis Sanchez, Morgan Schneiderlin.

I haven't included any youth players as they were often cameos and still weren't developed.

Sanchez shouldn't be in that list given his talent but I reckon is one of the worst players I have ever seen at Old Trafford.

Carroll
Darmian Jones McNair Buttner
Schneiderlin Kleberson Cleverley
Obertan Falcao Sanchez
Genuinely think Sanchez is the worst regardless of fee, stunk the place out giving the ball away all of the time.

Bosnic
Darmian - Jones - Mcnair - Buttner
Obertan - Kleberson - Djemba Djemba - Richardson
Forlan - Falcao

Jones instead of Blackett?

Tyler blackett hasn't played a PL game since we were stupid enough to play him in one and then managed 4 seasons in the championship. Now plays in MLS

I was trying to work within the 20 appearances rule in the OP.

McNair, Blackett, Bebe & Obertan are certified starters in this XI imo.

I was trying to work within the 20 appearances rule in the OP.

Apologies then, wild that McNair even made the threshold.

Jones is still harsh though. Jones had a lot of talent, and if he could get a run of games together he was a very good defender. But he just couldn't stay fit long enough.

Maybe a more controversial one, worst team with more than 100 league appearances

Van der Sar (have to pick one of the 3 greats)
Phil Neville Lindelof Jones Silvestre
Fellaini Anderson McTominay
Young Berbatov Lingard

Worst player to play for the club - Between Bebe and Tyler Blackett
Worst player relative to expectations - Sanchez by far

Have to defend Berba's honour - especially since you are counting league appearances. 108 appearances (82 starts), 48 goals, 18 assists. 0.6 G/90, 0.8 G+A/90. More than solid numbers. Though finding anybody is difficult for 100 appearances - Welbeck made 92, Sanchez only 32. I guess it's between Mata and Martial.

Also DDG over VDS, because DDG's bottom level is clearly so much worse. (Though overall I'd still put him better than VDS).

Carroll

Darmian Blackett Maguire Buttner

Fortune

Schneiderlin Veron

Eagles Falcao Sanchez

I suppose it’s harsh on Jones, if he’d stayed injury free he could have been a great player.

Sanchez - Pereira
Chadwick - Fellaini* - Djemba-Djemba - Obertan
Büttner - Rojo - McNair - Darmian
Foster

Subs: Falcao, L. Miller (R.I.P.), Schneiderlin, Bellion
Manager: D. Moyes

* yeah, he's not the worst, but I hated the very image of him in United shirt. He didn't deserve it as he really gave his all but he's pretty much the opposite of what I'm looking in football player aside from the workrate.

If we're talking about worst spells from different players, it's a bit more interesting. Current Maguire certainly fits in. Probably De Gea 2018-2020. Jones' record of simply missing 2 years is probably unmatched by anyone (although Hargreaves came close). Evra of the first few months (although should adaptation count?).

Foster was a better keeper than Kuzczak surely?

People are too harsh on Fellaini. I think he was a valuable footballer. Excellent in some of our better moments after Fergie - i.e. he played brilliantly in the Juanfield game and also the thrashing of City at OT. Unfortunately, the way his managers used him meant he's just associated with hoofball.

Schweinsteiger would have to be the captain of any worst X1 because his shitness goes beyond his performance as an individual, he was LvG's own de facto captain on the pitch, actively spreading LvG's poisonous ideas and tactics.

I agree to disagree. Read the thread title. Taking all things into account, no player has been injured while playing for United more than Phil Jones. He's first name on my team sheet for worst 11. Also had a fair few mental collapses when he did play. How about that OG against Spurs in 11 seconds or whatever it was. Could of, would of, should of doesn't cut it at the top. He should of been sold years ago or let go for free. He's been stealing a living for over a decade.

POTM in September?. That was the start of the season. Of course he wanted to start guns blazing. It was a high profile transfer for us at the time. Went to shit after that. All players have good days even if they're shit. The bold part is exactly why he's on my worst 11. He's a cnut and used us to get his move to PSG.
Jones had plenty of good games, his first couple of seasons with us were quite good. Didn't we have that record way into the LVG era that we never lost a game with Smalling-Jones as our CB pairing.

But yeah fair enough it's your opinion. I just think the likes of Bailly and Rojo are far worse players than him.

All keepers that qualify are more than decent, that’s kind of an issue. Personally I’m edging towards the Pole though.

Kuzczak was a good cup keeper and stand in wasn’t he remember him having a fair few solid games.

Stemming from a conversation I was having at lunch at work today, what according to you is the worst Man Utd XI of the last 20 years? But the criteria is you only have to take into consideration their performances for Utd, and not their price tag or salary? And they must also have made at least 20 appearances for the club.

For me it would be something like:
Foster
Darmian
Bailly
McNair
Rojo
Schneiderlin
Schweinsteiger
Djemba-Djemba
Obertan
Falcao
Sanchez

What would be yours?
WTH. No Buttner?

LVG gave debuts to some awful footballers. McNair was easily one of the better ones.

Nick Powell is another very forgettable midfielder..

People are too harsh on Fellaini.
Agreed. I actually had a bit of a soft spot for him in a way. He was much better than the reputation he has on here, unfortunately he’s just associated with an awful manager in an awful transfer window.

Making an 11 is difficult but Carroll, Gibson, Peirera and Richardson are some of the worst players that got significant game time in the last 20 years. Obviously players like Bebe, Manucho and Dong are worse but they hardly played.

Going by that criteria bolded

Caroll

Dalot
Paddy Mcnair
Silvestre
Buttner

Schneiderlin
Darron Gibson

Bellion
Cleverley
Di Maria

Alexis Sanchez

We should probably restrict this thread to players that we brought in from outside as opposed to youth team players who were given enough rope to hang themselves with. In which case:

Kuszczak
Darmian
Bailly
Rojo
Buttner
Djemba
Schneiderlin
Schweinsteiger
Obertan
Sanchez
Falcao

Honourable mentions: AWB, Di Maria, Jones, Mata

Carroll

Darmain
McNair
Rojo
Williams

Schneiderlin
Cleverley
Gibson

Sanchez
Falcao
Welbeck

Carroll
AWB Jones Lindelof Buttner
Cleverly Kleberson Schneiderlin Djemba2
Sanchez Obertan

Honourable mentions to notoriously terrible United players who only played a couple of games, so don't really count, such as Andy Goram, William Prunier, Manucho, Bebe, Saidy Janko and Ralph Milne.

GK - Roy Carroll
LB - Alexander Buttner
RB - Matteo Darmian
CB - Paddy McNair
CB - Tyler Blackett
MC - Eric Djemba-Djemba
MC - Kleberson
MC - Liam Miller
AMR - Gabrial Obertan
AML - David Bellion
ST - Alexis Sanchez

Falcao nearly made the team, but escapes because he tried so hard. Also Tim Howard came close, was generally rubbish for us. Dan James also came close for being one of the most technically limited players I have ever seen at United.

I think this is probably the one yeah.

Tyler Blackett and Donald Love are I think the only youth players I've ever seen play for Utd's first team who within about 45 minutes you could tell they were absolutely nowhere near good enough and never would be.

It was just so obvious.

I would put Fabio on the backline, just because of all the hype that he was the ‘good’ twin and the disappointment
