We're 1 good manager away from turning it around

I know it's been the in thing to bash our squads as not being supposedly good enough under van gaal, Mourinho, ole and ragnick but even under a clearly past it van gaal and Mourinho we actually won trophies, now imagine if we had both of them
managers in their prime what other trophies they could have won with the same players?

I don't know how fans can be so blind to the fact this is what we have been missing since fergie left, a top class manager still in their prime, simple as that. Also winning the league has been as hard as it has ever been with pep taking it to another level with the points tally that is needed to win the league
I'm thinking we're going to lose today against that 'clearly incompetent' David Moyes. Not sure about Van Gaal, but Mourinho got us to 2nd and who know how good we'd have been if we just got the defender he wanted (McGuire bought for millions more after he left) and gotten rid of the bad eggs like he wanted. Ole -- we got that nice guy the board wanted.
Seems like there have been too many chefs in the kitchen at Utd. Who decided that Mourinho couldn't get rid of Pogba and Martial and couldn't have McGuire? (I know that the Cafe was all, "Nooooooo. We love Pogba! We love Martial! We don't need a good defender!" ) Who bought Ronaldo? All our managers look hamstrung eventually.
Anyway, I'd like someone to explain what the structure of the club is. I hope it isn't Sir Alex making moves from the shadows. I don't think the club will succeed till that's fixed. Nor do I think managers will easily come to Utd -- we not Disneyland, we're the place where managers' careers end.

We are only one good manager away but that manager will need a huge spending spree, a ruthless clear out and time to sort this mess out. This isn’t a quick fix, any manager brought in to do so will waste 12-18 months trying and then come to the conclusion they need to rip it up.

We won trophies thanks to heavily favourable cup draws. Palace in an FA Cup final? We were nowhere near the leagues at a time when even Leicester won it.

Right now, there's too many conflicts going on.
1) Do we focus on how we play football, even if it means medium term poor performances till we adapt...or do we focus on results?
2) Do we focus on developing young players or do we focus on getting the best in?
3) Do we focus on finances or do we focus on footballing results, irrespective of the cost?
4) Do we focus on getting marketable players, or getting players who get the job done?
5) Do we give absolute autonomy to the manager or have multiple people vet his decisions?
6) Do we focus on player/fans opinion, or do we frame a plan and stick to it, even if unpopular?

Right now, we are very confused with these questions. Unless we sort this out, there is going to be no light end of the tunnel.

Ralf says all the right things but still out attack is disjointed. Our midfield most of the time don't look for forward passes. Lots of times it's square or backwards. That mentality has to change.

One good manager who has a firm successful system.

Who believes in it fully, and then like Michael Owen of all people accurately said, give players the chance to show they're not up to fitting into it, then ship them.

Get a system. Stick to it. Recruit for and towards realising that system. Get better at buying and selling players. Use youth for the squad players instead of expensive contract renewals. It’s easy really. They’ve made such a mess of something that should have been simple with the amount of the clubs money they are throwing at it
Simples....

This thread makes me believe there are still some people that think you can win the league with McTominay and Fred as your central midfield

Klopp took three seasons of a lot of purchases and moving players on, Guardiola took over the top side in the country that had spent millions and still moved on a lot of players and has bought a lot of players.

Yes we may be one good manager away, but we are one good manager who has the balls and backing to move on a lot of this squad, 10-15 in my opinion and we need 5/6 top quality purchases (dont mean big signings, the right ones, in the right positions, that fit the role and have the right attitude, mindset and consistency)

As RAWKish as it sounds, I honestly think we would have won the league once or twice after SAF retired, if it weren't for City being on such suffocating financial doping. This is not to say a change isn't needed, we do need a rebuild, a good manager and structure to our transfer policy, could do with a new board and set of owners as well, but it will be hard for anyone to overcome this City dominance. We are 1 good manager away from not being embarassad by Liverpool, cementing our place in the top 3, but it takes a lot more to knock City off their perch and I don't think it's in our hands alone.

We need a culture reset. Rangnick's approach and then the new manager coming in, plus a sprinkling of new players could do it. There's a lot riding on it, that's for sure.

Yes, if not for Pep. WE would have won in Jose's second season. 81 points wasn't bad considering we literally gave up on the league in January itself. I felt Pep and City killed all the hope.

i love Ralf. He seems genuine as hell and I do like the lads too but the whole leak thing “it’s bad going to bed at 10 O clock”

Lads ye suck. You are getting paid massive cash. I’d be doing laps outside Ralfs house at 2am (like elanga!)

Don't forget moaning about Ralf moving the training sessions from morning to afternoon. Poor lads, imagine having to finish from work with the rest of the 9-5 peasants. These guys are so out of touch with reality. They should just be honest and admit they want to be done with footy by midday to go manage their brands.

How much money did Pep and Klopp spend? So... we're one great (not good) manager and a mountain of money (on top of the money we've already spent) away from being competitive.
Since we don't have that, maybe we should be a bit more forgiving towards the Man Utd players we have at the moment.

Klopp actually hasn't spent that much money. Much less than we have.

I like him too. It does feel like we've been very soft with these players for far too long. So long it might be too late to sort the culture out with many of them still here.

*Liverpool. Klopp has nothing to do with how much is spent. He's brought in a lot of very good players. How much spent is down to the scouts, transfer committee and whoever is negotiating. If we'd bought those players we'd have spent more, because of United tax (and probably some level of ineptness).

Our next manager has to be ETH. If we get that right, then we'd be on track.

We've had several good managers since SAF. The problem lies elsewhere.
No we didn't we actually never had the Manager who was on modern in his approach and was on the up unfortunately , but that doesn't mean we don't have other problems as well.
