Van De Beek | Everton Loan Watch

he's not good, i'll give you that. But his midfield partner first half was so bad he got subbed and his new midfield partner gave away a goal in a few minutes. So it's not all on VDB, despite people here hoping for it
Piss off.

Piss off.
you haven't read the topics about VDB then? People have made up their mind a few months ago and will stick to that and think that every small "bad" thing is a sign that he is absolute rubbish and hope he makes a small mistake again to prove their point

That is fair. I don't really care about the result, I just want to see if there is anything in him to make him a real option in the future at Utd, what he actually is in this league. With Allan removed he is the deepest midfielder for Everton this half and that is not going to work in the PL.

That's not a majority opinion, and you're practically telling people they don't support a United player because they just criticized him when the criticism is absolutely warranted. If you can't deal with other opinions, just piss off instead of telling people they're not proper fans.

He's been crap by a lot of objective metrics, as another poster has posted. It's a valid opinion to think he's been poor.

Pretty much as expected. Looked great against Leeds in a team that was dominating but seems anonymous and unable to influence the game at all when his team is on the back foot. He should get a few more games in this loan but he just looks like a tidy and unremarkable player at this level.

Bizarre tactics from an inept manager

He was on the pitch when Southampton scored, his fault!

It's interesting to note Everton have had hardly any of the ball in the two games he's played.

Just shows the total nonsense people come out with about controlling the game and passing skill meaning we should play him ahead of McFred as if that would suddenly change things. Maybe if he was Xavi, that would be possible with one player.

Everything depends on the qualities of the overall team, you can see why Ralf and Ole don't care about a fraction better technique (which I will give him, he does occasionally show that).

He wasn't to blame at all, but he's just been really bad. So has everyone else, but I'm not into excusing bad performances with that. Everyone deserves individual criticism for how bad they have been.

His passing range is so limited, very tidy at the short range stuff in general but when you need to open a game up, quick switch of play, he doesn't really have that in him.

Doesn't like to make a tackle, and yet you had people claiming full force he could play in Fred's position for us. Aye.
He's been shit, but we shouldn't be comparing one players stinker to another's average level. Today he's been better than Fred's recent stinker for us, but that's a meaningless comparison.

He's 2 starts into his loan after barely playing for 1,5 years. Let's wait and see. I have a hunch he's an Everton level player, a bit better than Klaassen, not quite Utd quality.

Can see why managers reluctant to start him. He doesn't really offer much of an upgrade over Fred, other than maybe making fewer stupid passes, but that's a pretty low bar. He tends to fade around the hour mark as well. In his first appearance, it was obvious he wanted to impress the manager and prove a point.

Only saw the second half, but he's barely had a kick. Southampton have absolutely schooled them up and down the pitch.

I think the main factor was the game being against Leeds, who just leave the midfield wide open for anybody to do whatever the feck they want. Donny will have better games than today, but anyone thinking the Leeds game was a fair barometer of his level will probably have realised the mistake pretty quickly.

Love the guy, but there is a reason why he wasn't starting for United.

He is not good enough for the premier league and has been dreadful, every time he has started.

Ah not quite the McTom, Fred or Matic quality.

Watched the game today. Everton were absolutely shocking, didnt have a shot on target. I would say Donny put in an average performance whilst being surrounded by shite. Allan was taken off, Gomes came on and was even worse. The midfield 2 were eaten up by Southampton having 3 on the middle. Dele Ali came on and my god is he awful

Donny got another 90 mins in the tank and hopefully he will kick on.

Donny wasn't average, he was poor.
He got disposed a lot, he made wrong decisions on the ball, didn't see some forward passes and chose to pass sideways or bring a teammate into trouble.
He lost a lot of duels and a few aerials, got outmuscled a few times one on one. He was alright in his defensive positioning but looked lazy on the first goal.

The stats will show:
He lost duels
Didnt complete passes
Didn't pass forward
Didn't make 1 key pass (maybe the offside goal?)

It's easy to blame his teammates, but he's a United player at Everton and should be among the best players on his team nearly every game. He was not.

Scott/Fred/Matic's level is absolutely irrelevant when discussing VDB on loan. It mattered when he was here, not anymore.

That first goal, has the ball out on the right wing, plenty of space and forward passing options. Turns back, plays it to a defender, Gomez gets pressed, Donny watches, mistake, no energy getting back. Low down on the fault ratio for that goal, but he could have done more.

Yes that was super lazy. Maybe if he sprints back and can close down the player that had the ball, the guy that ended up scoring stays marked because his markers aren't pulled away.

Shhhhh.

You can’t be critical of Donny because if you do then you must love Mctominay and Fred.

Jesus. The caf is a painful place these days with an average age of about 12.

If our scouts hadn't gotten lucky with Bruno you'd have to question if they weren't getting to sabotage us. Donny is shite, how people have some belief that he actually has anything to his game after 2 seasons is beyond me.

Come on lads, cut him a bit of slack. He's suffering from PUSS (post-United stress syndrome). He'll come good. Right?

If they thought he should have got a chance with Bruno out of form I have some sympathy. The Donny for deep midfield calls never made any sense to me. He has had maybe 3-5 decent games in his time at Utd, but only 1 half, against Watford were I saw a guy who could genuinally be an important player for Utd. So much angst over so little.

Damn this page makes it sound he's the dutch cleverley. Needs some injection of optimism. Hope he bounces back.

I think a lot including myself have realized he is a system player. If we don’t play that system or can’t dominate the game, he can’t offer much and most likely perform worse than others. It doesn’t mean he is crap but he is limited. Maybe the next manager can work it out. Or, maybe Lampard can find a way?

He is. I said as much before we signed him. De Jong carried him much like Carrick carried Cleverley.

Hopefully, some people are still fooled into thinking he's talented because he's from Ajax so we can recoup some money back from him.

I think he works best in a 3 man midfield system, like a supporting type in press close passing and joining in attacks. That's how I saw him for Ajax.

While he's been here, just swapping him with either Fred or McTom is not going to transform United. To me Fred is another similar type. We've spent 85m on two players we find hard to use or try to squeeze in defensive roles.
