Here is a different one for you, troops! In his solo debut, Nik takes a look back at a torrid few weeks for Manchester United culminating in a shootout loss to Boro. He looks at how light the squad seems now and laments that even though we missed chances, we played well!

Nik breaks down the most ridiculous hand-ball ever and takes a look at our players on international duty.

Rounding out the episode we take a look at Old Trafford - starving on and off the pitch and briefly preview the coming fixtures. Enjoy the show!

Nice breakdown of the shitshow we’re seeing, cheers @Rood

I think we needed a bit of optimism to be fair, and you’re right that everything was there apart from the finish against Boro. I think the signs are good, and if we keep getting decent results in the league and knock out Atletico then suddenly the picture looks a lot brighter.

Fair play for making the effort to get a one man show out @Rood. Especially given the circumstances.

I agreed with a lot of the points you made. Especially about the performance, on balance. We played well. We just missed a ridiculous amount of chances:

This was literally the kind of bizarre, it happens to everyone once, type of performance. We should have had the game dead and buried by time Boro scored. IMO we paid for not putting the game beyond them. However, I think the meltdown in the media (including social media) was massively OTT.

I've seen people peddling the idea that going out last Friday shows how much the rot has set in. I think had we played as badly as we did against Wolves and lost I'd agree. However, missing a ridiculous amount of big chances, conceding a goal after an obvious handball in the build up and then going out on penalties...? Just wasn't our night. Well done for having some perspective, despite the driving rain and p-n cold.

League and Top4 is the focus now, CL progress would be a bonus but Atletico is a bloody difficult draw even if we were on good form

That's exactly it, the fall out from this loss was OTT as we really played well for the most part

I get that it's a cup shock which the ABU media will milk but that tweet just shows what an exception this was in missed chances. No way we will miss that many chances again

I just hope that another penalty loss does not affect the players too much mentally - the likes of Maguire have now been involved in THREE shootout losses within a year

Cheers for pod @Rood - a good listen

lets hope we take the positive aspects into Tuesday.

I think the fallout from this loss was possibly more about the general dissatisfaction of fans at the minute.

The Greenwood issue has upset me more than anything I remember in my 43 years as a United fan I think. The Lingard stuff, the Martial stuff, stories around dressing room upset etc all play their part.

really felt like we needed a win to put the crap behind us and feel a bit of positivity- hopefully comes tomorrow night

Ye I get that it's an accumulation of various negative news that lead to the OTT reaction to the loss

Just need to get back on track in the league and hopefully build up some confidence for Madrid

Great pod @Rood - I’ve been looking for a United podcast to listen to where the emotional component of a result isn’t the be-all-and-end-all so I really enjoyed this!

Personally I think there are lots of positives to take from the last few games despite the numerous off field negatives.

I would love to hear discussion on what success for Ralf Rangnick would look like this season. What would be enough to extend his contract as manager?

FA Cup is obviously now off the table, premier league is pretty much impossible, CL isn’t at all likely. Is it all hanging on top 4? If the performances reach a consistent level and we’re competitive against good teams, is change really the best idea?

Although there are signs of improvement in our play, I think it's unlikely that Ralf will become permanent manager - top4 certainly won't be enough, a shock CL win would probably change minds though
