Yeah you're right, it's usually through agents. That way the club can say that they've had no contact with the player. Clubs contact the player first to determine whether they are open to a move before a formal bid is placed. That way the club avoids looking stupid when they place a bid and the player comes out saying they have no intention of moving to said club.That's true - but I thought they do it through agents. Calling the player seems to be on another level. Not that I mind to be honest, would much rather he go Chelsea, where he'd improve them a little, than go to Arsenal, where he would improve them a lot. I don't agree with tapping up if I'm honest - I know all clubs do it, even United; but you'd think the common courtesy is to have a bid accepted first. I would hate it if other clubs do it to our players.
