Top 5 Actors?

Denzel is so overrated it isnt even funny, decent actor no doubt, a superstar no doubt, one of the best actors in Hollywood no way

Depp
Di Caprio
Norton
Morgan fecking Freeman
Ray Winstone
Gerard Butler
Denzel 'I play the same person in every film' Washington

Well be fair, Spammy!

I never claimed that Gerard Butler was a great actor. I just said I liked him. For totally shallow, girlie reasons.

you dirty girl livvie, its amusing when they make fun of him on tmz, he always has dozens of girls swooning over him

Good actor, not among the best, but maybe just a tier below, very versatile though,

This was done probably a hundred times and it would be interesting to see if people still pick the same actors. Today I would choose:

Bale
Malkovich
Bardem
Nicholson
Hopkins

The amount of 5 is very limiting.

I thought i'd throw this one to the newbies to see if any names not mentioned so far in here came up. Here's a few suggestions

Samuel L Jackson
Robert De Niro
John Travolta
Nicholas Cage
Ryan Reynolds

Don't shoot the messenger!

Nic Cage, Nic fecking Cage, are you fecking kidding me, they must be noobs for a reason

Good call on that one

Who said Nic Cage?

Brad Pitt is a much better actor than Carrey or Cage, he can actually ummmm act.

Interval level, in his list he also has Brad Pitt & Jim Carrey.

Nic cage does make me want to tear my eyes out when I see him, something about him I just can't stand.

Nic Cage is awful. Absolutely awful.

Indeed he is. He makes decent films shit. The Knowing may have been a lot better if it were not for him.

Gone in Sixty Seconds being a particular pet hate of mine.

Look at him. He has a real punchable face

I've removed the picture from the quote so as to stop computer screens being punched, but wasn't his name in Gone in Sixty Seconds.... Randall Raines?

Here's how the newbies have things....

With my 5 of Johnny Depp, L.Dicaprio, PSH, Heath Ledger and just because I love The Shield, Forest Whitaker, the standings are:

Johnny Depp 5
Brad Pitt 4
Leonardo Di Caprio 4
Russell Crowe 4
Denzel Washington 3
Heath Ledger 2
Edward Norton 2
Christian Bale 2
Robert De Niro 2
Hugh Laurie 2
Philip Seymour Hoffman 2
Benicio Del Torro
Tom Cruise
Jim Carey
Ryan Reynolds
Adrien Brody
Tim Robbins
Sean Penn
Samuel L. Jackson
Paul Giamatti
Robert Downey Jr
Tommy Lee Jones
Dustin Hoffman
Michael Douglas
Al Pacino
Morgan Freeman
Anthony Hopkins
Tom Hanks
Forest Whitaker

It's balanced out well I think.

Downey Jr is excellent in fairness to whoever pointed him out

Uhmm, I forgot on Al Pacino and Spacey...I said 5 is not enough for really "monster" of actors. They are definitely up there.

Pacino of old maybe, but he's done more bad movies than good over the past 10 years.

I can't remember the last movie he made in which he was any good.

Shame really because His role as Micheal Corleone is probably up there in my top 5 performances over time.

Yeah, I was exactly thinking of his "young version", whether it is Michael Corleone (the scene on the funeral, where he just sat and observed the others is probably the best ever) or in Dog Day Afternoon... But IMO he maintained at least his average standard (with is ridiculously high)...just the movies as a whole were not that breathtaking.

Who would have thought that the kid in Empire of the Sun has turned out the way he has.

My mum's favourite actor is Albert Finney.

Downey Jr, Don Cheadle and Spacey.....shit I forgot them...Ok, adding them into my 5 at the expense of...someone

Day Lewis is head and shoulders above most of the names mentioned here.

For me currently

Daniel Day Lewis
Russell Crow
Sean Penn
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Paddy Consadine

Downey Jr is great too.

Colin Farrell and Will Smith both surprised me in 'In Bruges' and 'I am Legend' repsectively.

I've also liked what I've seen of Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma, 30 days of Night) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Red Belt, Serenity).

Don Cheadle would've have been up there but his accent in the Oceans 11/12/13 movies was frankly embarassing.

God call on Ejiofor...Very good actor, Good on the stage too....and I'd forgotten about Cheadle's accent...I hereby retract my support for him and transfer it to Ejiofor

Will Smith is much better than people give him credit for....Being good at comedy and pathos is one of the hardest things to do as an actor...Even Al Pacino can't do it (intentionally...his hair manages it occasionally though)

Don Cheadle I always thought was English, then I found out he wasn't and my feelings for him have never been the same. Downey Jr was actually on my list originally but substituted for Ryan Gosling at the last because when I thought about it I realized Jeremy Priven and Downey Jr aren't actually the same person (or so IMDB says, though I am not convinced). So in reality I have only seen Downey Jr in Iron man and Tropic Thunder. And Tropic Thunder was pretty pants.

Ryan Gosling has been pretty great in every film I have seen him in (Stay, Fracture, Half Nelson, The Notebook). He and Casey Affleck are going to become two of the best around in the next 5 or so years I reckon

Just read the last posts in movie review thread...how could we all omit Vincent Cassel...shame on us. Brilliant actor.

Cassel > Eduardo > Nicolas Cage

Depp and Freeman are the same fecking guy in every movie.

Depp just slightly alters it by being fruity or dark.
