I tried to observe a relatively strict definition of rock, which goes against everything I believe in and resulted in a worryingly MOR list:

A Silver Mt Zion - Sit in the Middle of Three Galloping Dogs
The Band - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
Built to Spill - Broken Chairs
DAF - Der Mussolini
Darkthrone - Quintessence (no, it's not black metal, it's rock in its purest form)

Fairport Convention - Tam Lin
Le Tigre - Deceptacon
Mercury Rev - Something For Joey
My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow
Neurosis - Locust Star
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - From Her to Eternity

some great songs on that list, this is worth the watch if you havent seen it:

YouTube - Nantes (from the Flying Club Cup) - BEIRUT

if I wanted to be like mehro I'd have chosen War Pigs or something from the Dio years.

if you had done that you'd have shown yourself up as a cloth eared twat.

sorry as further proof of you being a cloth eared twat with half that list.

Hendrix overrated....jesus.

So many great songs to choose from. Everyone hated him at the time but the Dio years were their best imo. Paranoid just sounds so dated compared to something like Heaven and Hell or Country Girl.

oh holy christ on a stick.

I've been in the same room a few times with Dio and he really is tiny. I'm a tall bloke but this dude is a bonafied midget.

Anyway

Ozzy Sabbath >>>>>>>>>>>> Dio Sabbath (by a few country miles)

nor does mine, I was simply denigrating mehro.

still, the absence of your selections is glaring in comparison to your critiquing.

I made my picks with an American radio audience in mind.

:nono:

And it has to be said as well, Ronnie's solo stuff is miles better than Ozzy's also.

Husker Du- Books About UFOs
Smashing Pumpkins- Tonight, Tonight
Bob Dylan- Mr.Tambourine Man

Are 20 songs I've not grown sick of even after what must be at least a thousand combined listens.

I can't be arsed deciding what's 'rock' and what's not, so Bob Dylan stays.

EDIT: feck it, a list without Bowie will simply not do. Van Morrison gets the flick.

I'll have another look now. The internet will help, I suspect.
