The Killzone 2 Thread

Just the 20 discs then?

I don't know, but I would expect 7 at least, I hope you cannot go back and forth and it's totally linear for the XB360's sake. It will be on multiple discs and gimped. If you haven't caught up with the news fully, it will be released on PS3 only in Japan. They will then "try" to port it to XB360 while turning it into English for PS3.

Anyway, back to blowing shit up....

Nop, just two disks will be enough. I'm not going to explain how because I did that before and can't be bothered to do it again.

Because you don't know! We don't even know how big FFXIII actually is. Lost Odyssey was on 4 discs (do we even know what res its FMV was), and I doubt that it has anywhere near as much FMV as FFXIII is going to have. They have two options, either increase the number of discs, or gimp it (yes lossy compression, decreasing bitrates, lowering resolution, removing content, etc. is gimping it).

2 disks, you're having a joke if you think that they can fit FFXIII into 13.6GB!

Must say Fallout 3 does look amazing. (was on Bravo around noon time)

It does. Brilliant in fact.
It looks just like Oblivion with guns and a different landscape. Some people are disappointed that this may be the case but i'm not!

Yeah sure, like FFXIII.

Oh, wait.....

The fact that i will be unable to play this makes me resent PS3 owners enormously. Die.

Weaste I completely agree with this guy's quote:
Everyone always seems to focus on these big graphical showcase shooters, but I'm personally getting sick of them, it's just the same thing reworked over and over, totally saturated, how many of them do you need?

MODS CLOSE THIS THREAD PLEASE. Weaste maybe many things but surely not a hypocrite:smirk:

This one isn't reworked on a technical level though clever dick, and brings certain new things to the FPS party, or at least is trying to do so.

So you think that KZ1 was good enough on a "technical level".

"brings certain new things to the FPS " and the award for the boldest and most presumptive quote goes to..........

Don't anger Weaste, the last part of his name isn't there for fun you know.

The first part of my name isn't there for fun either;)

To be fair, I've yet to see anything remotely new with this game. The First person look around corners thing may be different to recent titles, but I'm positive it's been done before. Even if not, it's merely a cosmetic thing (although one I'd like to see work).

Technically it's doing a lot of new things (certainly never been done on a console before). First person cover has not been done I'm positive. It also has some interesting ideas with its multiplayer.

Such as? Forgive my ignorance on this, I've not been keeping up to date these past few weeks.

No it has, later on I'll try and find the game. I vaguely remember it so I might have some luck. Like I said though, it's not new since it has certainly been talked about before, and was 100% definitely tried during development of R6:Las Vegas.

Again, such as?

No, but you're a troll. I'm not bothering anymore because you have feck all to say.

Sorry weaste. I like sony but I'll more than happily point out their negatives (eg KZ). Its even more tempting as I know that you'll some how defend sony till death without ever admitting defeat like your comment relating to XBOX live. When I said that it was by far the best for online play, you said "it's subjective" without expanding and giving examples of cross platformers where the ps3 online was better than xbox live.

The post where you slag off shooters and then big up KZ shows your hypocrisy* (sorry but if you're going to call me a troll.....), KZ will not be revolutionary and some of your comments regarding just how ground breaking it is are unfounded (given KZ1). I mean how on earth can you start to comment on the technical side of it based on a few previews and what SONY say.

*you probably only did that to highlight how good different games like LBP(sony exclusive surprise surprise) are.

Defered renderers have been tried before, and sometimes mixed with the forward to whatever degree (defered has problems with transparency doesn't it?). I think that even GTAIV used some defered techniques, but this is the first game that does it full on. The physics are advanced, the AI is advanced, the animation technology is advanced. There is nothing for me outside of Crysis that touches it.

I honestly think that this project started out as an R&D exercise. It's interesting because of that and its history as pointed out in my first post. People have been gunning it down at every opportunity ever since it was revealed that that E305 trailer was CG. However, each time it is gunned down, then the more they show, and the more they show of it the more people move on to try and gun it down over something else.

On the technical level it's also the first game that really shows what the Cell can do in terms of assisting the RSX, thus showing possibly how powerful the PS3 architecture really is. If you look at their PDF that was show at GDC about a year ago, you can see that they are using 4 SPUs to do a range of tasks. What is not clear from the slides however is how much they really are using, because they use a time-sliced frame view. From that it even seems that the SPUs are idle for a lot of the time. This is where it gets interesting, how would it be possible to use up that spare processing power?

It might not end up a good game, I've made my fears on that quite clear (however, the more they show, the more my hopes grow, because it looks solid at the very least). WHat it will be however is the most graphically spectacular game a console has ever seen. Even the lighting on its own sets it off, it just looks incredible.

The day that you get it into your thick skull that I am not a Playstation fan, is the day I may consider conversing with you.

I don't see anything to suggest the animation, physics and A.I would be any more advanced than any other game released in the past few years, although on the graphics side I am impressed.

My expectations on the gameplay side differs from yours, as in I wouldn't mind a decent straightforward shooter as long as it's solid. Too many try to hard and fail miserably at getting all the pieces right, as in solid feeling weapons, great sound effects, intense atmosphere, great level design etc...Frankly they don't seem to have many ideas to push the envelope, so they should make sure they do everything else well.

If KZ2 delivers some of that then I'll be happy with it.

There is a video where they show the AI part of the engine, I shall look for it for you. Uncharted, if you have ever played it has a very nice AI system, it could be sharing the same code on that level.

The physics are quality, I do not see what you are not seeing here.

I'm not the A.I/Physics aren't quality, I'm just saying I fail to see how any of it is any more advanced than anything else around at the moment. Less so the animation system.

For example, what does the A.I do in Uncharted that it doesn't do in, Farcry or Halo for example?

Again, I would never even begin to slight what the game is doing under the hood, I'm just more intrigued as to why you think it's so advanced in those areas.

How about play the game and see for yourself? You're all very good at telling us how good the Mario games are, even how good Galaxy is, how about trying to play one of the best games of this cycle? PS3 might not be able to push the graphical limits of a top end PC, but it is capable of doing certain things better than a top of the range PC. Play it on hard, then play it on crushing.
