Sky: Richard Arnold to become new CEO of Manchester United

I suppose the one positive seems to be that they're across this situation that the structure is poor and they don't have the requisite experience.

As fans we'd like our CEO to have more of a footballing clue, that would be the best thing, but if they don't then at least acknowledging that mitigation is required helps. By getting Ralf in for a few years that would seem to indicate that they are trying to change things.

The reality is we're never going to see anything but Glazer men so the more they put the right people between the CEO and the manager the better our chances.

I just googled him and I've never seen him before in my life. For some reason I was under the impression he was black.

Boring. Hopefully Adam Crafton is correct and he won’t have any input in football matters

So hang on, I really don't understand this musical chairs reshuffle. Woodward is leaving or staying? And Arnold is already some sort of managing director or something anyway? So really nothing is changing but the job titles?

He's leaving apparently.

Yeah this, like I said earlier.

People just want Woodward gone, even if it’s to the detriment of our commercial side.

Apparently this move though might allow space for a proper DOF to come in? Feck knows.

Can a CEO have no interest in football?

I mean we don't want him coaching or picking the team but surely he should have enough interest to watch what we are doing and if need be change the manager.

Otherwise if he is just going to concentrate on the money side what is the point of changing his title?

Have I gone completely mad? Isn't Woodward currently the CEO?
We didn’t have a real CEO since Gill resigned. Woodward was officially executive vice chairman with Joel G and Avram G being executive chairmen. Now, Arnold is gonna be CEO with two Glazers continuing their previous positions.

On real terms, it means that Woodward, who was the man who run the day to day club operations, is gonna be replaced by Arnold. The title does not matter too much considering that in both cases the Glazers can overrule/sack them whenever they want by virtue of controlling over 75% of the club’s shares and circa 95% of the voting right (a stock owned by Glazers has 10 votes while a stock owned by someone else bought in stock exchange has 1 vote).

We have a proper DoF.

Too much to ask that he's learned 1 or 2 things of what not to do from Woodward, ie leave the footballing side up to footballing people?
Yes that was reported. It was around the time RR was appointed. Apparently he knows nothing about the footballing side so will leave it to those that do, unlike Woodward who tried to be jack of all trades but master of none

Think you might be getting him mixed up with Michael Bolingbroke, although he left for Inter Milan a while back.

Think that’s who it was. Cheers! Was driving me mad.

We have a proper DoF.
Yeah I was half thinking that when I was typing. So this literally means nothing apart from shuffling around a few of the puppets and probably losing the one that makes the most money for us.

Good stuff.

To be fair, losing Woodward is a good thing. He might have made money for us, although the commercial department was lead by Arnold for a very long time, but he has also made a shitload of bad footballing decisions.

Everyone who will be CEO here would be a Glazer's puppet considering that they have total control over the club. What we need is a puppet, who doesn't make a lot of feckup decisions like Woodward. Assuming that rumours are true that Arnold won't deal with football decisions, that would be a large upgrade by itself.

If he has the humility to delegate the football tasks to football people and focus his considerable expertise on the business side, he’s already guaranteed to do better than Woodward. I’m very pleased that many reports are saying that that is exactly what he is going to do.

I’ve never doubted his, Woodward and Judge’s reputations as good businessmen, so with Rangnick, Murtough, Fletcher and a manager selected by Rangnick running the football side next season, I’m feeling excited.

Yeah I largely agree with all that but my understanding was that Woodwards involvement on the football side would be removed anyway, particularly with Ralf's arrival and two year stay.

The only minor concern in that scenario is apparently Ed is a bit of a whiz on the commercial side but to what extent we don't really know as you pointed out.

Yeah I see that now. I know it's much of a muchness but I never realised we didn't have one as Woodward is always referred to as the CEO.

This is what Luckhurst said about Arnold in October:

That said, following the Rangnick developments, well reputable sources have suggested he knows his flaws and wants Murtough/Rangnick and others to therefore to control of the footballing side.

I would like to think he can work as a CEO if his approach is more hands-off compared to Ed.

I don’t trust fat people, especially the ones who grow a beard to hide the Chinese phonebook underneath it.
