Simeone "Man United are one of the best teams in the world right now."

Simeone would love McT.
Probably, McT is a very useful player to have. To say he makes one of the best midfield is a real stretch but my point is Simeone would rather say that than anything negative.

He always seems to have preferred the underdog narrative for them and it's served them well.

How is Juventus winning their group stages in the CL with 15 points last season and again 15 points this season in 4th tier, and United losing to Istanbul and Young Boys in the third?
Probably something to do with Juventus' massive struggles last season and this season in a much weaker league than the premier league, and being thoroughly underwhelmed when I watch them play football. Chelsea completely battering them in the group's as well plays a part. Last season them finishing top of their group doesn't mean much when they got knocked out in the Ro16 to Porto. Yesterday they didn't exactly play well against Villareal, but 2nd leg to come. Their squad is also very meh.

I dunno when I look at them overall as a package, I think they're a worse footballing team with lower potential (current ability wise) than any of the big 6 in the Premier League. But it's probably fair to put them in the 3rd tier based on reputation and their usual level.

Top level comedy / mind games.
A team shipping goals and falling apart in 2nd half of most games over the past few months. Theres progress but a lot still to be improved.
But if it ca be true today that will be great.

Top top troll job.

I don't think he's trolling at all.

Considering we're currently 4th in the most competitive league in European football and in the knockout stages of the CL, is it such a stretch to believe other clubs see us as a top side?

Absurdly excessive flattery toward an upcoming opponent. Possibly the oldest trick in the book. Well done, Diego.

Shithousery began with this statement.

Perhaps they're shit atm but any tactical naivety from United will be punished.

It's incredibly flattering that others may think so, but we really aren't at the moment.

They still defeated Chelsea in the really important game. 1-0 but it could have been more. And Chelsea didn't create anything for 85 minutes... Losing the return leg 4-0 when they were already qualified and more focused on Lazio Atalanta surrounding that fixture is almost meaningless. Especially when they end up winning the group anyway. Having them under Chelsea is ok, but not 2 tiers under Chelsea. It didn't look that way.

Going out to Porto in the Ro 16 on away goals after extra time is still far better than going out in the group stage, after losing to f*** Istanbul. And they won the Coppa Italia and somehow secured the 4th spot.

I honestly think the 2 squads are fairly comparable. Both have some obvious weaknesses though.

I get why you'd think that watching us week in week out, but we wouldn't be in the CL right now if we weren't a top tier club. The stats don't lie, mate.

Lot of dramatic, over the top crap in this thread

That would put Lille as a top tier club if we used the same logic?

I love the club and hope we get to top tier status asap, but I simply wouldnt put us there right now.

No it is not such a stretch. But its all relative. If we mean CL favourites, we are certainly not there. Only 4/5 teams qualify as such.

Can't say I remember the performance too much but even that 1-0 win at home... Chelsea had 73% possession away, 1.30 xG to Juve having 0.85, Chelsea had 16 shots to Juve's 6... Anyway. It's the group stage. Don't think it matters all that much, it's just telling when a team gets battered and outplayed to that extent. We'll see, it's fair to put Juve on the 3rd tier as they are regularly in the CL knockouts. Squad wise I guess I forgot about some of the guys out injured too, and Allegri is obviously a much better manager than Pirlo last year so it's improved from that point.

Lille plays in a comparatively weaker league than United. They'd be a midtable side or thereabouts if they played in the Prem.

We're not a top tier club on the City and PSG level, but we're certainly in the top 8 or so sides in Europe - potentially higher on our day, which does qualify us as a top side.

I think people reading in between the lines too much. Simeone is a football man through and through. He watched Leeds game and saw grit, determination, attitude. He saw what he values the most in that team on hostile pitch. It’s not about hypothetical perceptions. He takes us very seriously.

That’s really telling about how xGs goals stats can be used so wrong. Chelsea taking 12 meaningless long distance shot with 0.06 xG each will add up to a 0.8 or 1xG total that in reality doesn’t represent anything.

Juve’s goal was supposedly only a 0.13 xG, but with Chiesa in that position we know the probability is much higher.

The biggest missed chance of the game was Bernardeschi’s missing a sitter. To me it looked like a quite controlled defensive/counter display by Allegri.

I think we are definitely top 10/12.

Lille is actually 11th in the French league. And they just sold Ikoné to Fiorentina, he was one of their best offensive elements in the GS.

Typical Simeone trolling. It’ll be a good game tonight. Atletico are no longer a world class, but defensive team now. They’re just bad. The only problem is, we’re even worse on our bad days.

On a good day though, we’ll turn them over.

Needs to use his awkward, slightly rapey “more than you believe” catchphrase more. You knew Fergie wasn’t about that bullshit when he threw a “no question about that” out there.

Yeah I appreciate the honesty of telling the reporter to f##k off much more than Pep's passive aggressive time-wasting.

After Fred’s hat trick tonight in our 4-0 win he can at least say ‘I told you so’

On paper we really should be one of the top teams in the world… but we are far from It this season.
he’s taking the piss.

Your initial point was "stats say it all" so what is your argument then? I'm a bit lost

We are one of the best teams...

at making other teams look the best or the best they've been for ages.

Yeah we might be around the 30th team of millions of teams considering pro and amateur teams.

That's pretty good if you ask me.
