Ronaldo for Captain!

Varane hasnt been here for long though.
Was Maguire here for long before being given the captains armband?

We desperately need a leader on that pitch, but with the teams current cohesion issues, is there anyone outside of these cliques that everyone will listen to outside of Varane?

I thought Keane was thrown out because he couldn't gel with the new younger squad which he also admitted recently, he was becoming increasingly toxic towards the squad due to this and he was also calling out Sir Alex's adopted son in Ronaldo.

On calling out teammates or speaking on issues, I think in this occasion it does need to be addressed as our current captain and also the club legend Ole recently called out a certain player and made to apologise.

That needs addressed ASAP, I think Ronaldo has done it in a very classy way while also not excluding himself from his own parameters of criticism, watch from about 5:12 onwards and you will hear it.

(Not just you Plump, this is a generality, only the first paragraph is a reply to you, the rest is in general towards Ronaldo calling out everyone)

What, who? You don't mean Ole's comments about it being good that Rashford could now focus on his football? Because that was pretty clearly a case of him being misinterpreted.

Have no idea. Frankly dont think who's captain is all that important. It should be the manager first and foremost who should tell the players what to do.

Wow that’s an annoying post. In direct response...

1: listen to yourself - “if you don’t think Ronaldo should be captain you know nothing about football”...are you 12?

2: What has a 3 seasons of frustrating development and another 3 seasons being PART of a great team got to do withhis ability to captain a team over a decade later?

3: you just made the same point as you did in point one...suggesting you ran out of reasons why he should be captain and so started calling names.

All of the above suggest that yes...you are in fact 12 and therefore, go put your Ronaldo pyjamas on and take a nap.

You are definitely the term I referred to in point 3. Learn how to have some fun and stop being so miserable.

If my memory serves me right Maguire was made captain not long after he joined.

I've checked he joined July 2019, made captain Jan 2020.

And it’s a mistake we’ve been living with for 2 years. If this club had any sense we’d strip him of the captaincy and cut bait on one of our worst signings in history.

He could be made the Captain, but what would SAFs thoughts be on the matter? and does Ralf listen to him (or indeed park in the 'Managers' parking space?)

I would love to see him as captain but him might feck off if we didn’t make top four makes it an absolute no. As much as I love him but better choose a loyal and a vocal player which unfortunately we don’t have, it’s simple as this. DDG is not vocal and Bruno is not having his shit together and totally lost his calmness and form, so as much as I hate it but better leave it this way with HM and new coach shall decide everything.

.

Right now the club need someone who is committed for the long haul and not someone who has previously bailed on us.
And yet, he’s back here in a red shirt. I’m more concerned about bringing in those who have the chops to play on an elite level consistently. Those old Fergie teams were made of giants; players who will do anything to get that W. Anyone who wasn’t up to that standard didnt stay for long. We have at least two of those giants—Ronaldo and Cavani. Most of the rest haven’t proved shit to be feeling hard done by them. So when a type like Ronaldo speaks, the others need to shut the feck up and open their ears, assisted by their own hands if needed.

The greatest demand the best of themselves before turning their eyes on those around them. Skipping dessert counts for nothing if your performances are and continue to be mediocre at best.
While true, it doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive.

I don't think Van Der Saar was the vocal type, but sometimes players like him bring the calmness that you alluded to, and that's as effective as having a loud leader.

On current form Ronaldo is not up scratch either, instead of a world-class athlete with great ball skills, we have a poacher who can't trap or pass the ball correctly, on top of that the team is not built to suit him, as I am almost certain we have one one the lowest crossing averages in the league.

The way I see it this is not the case of a hero of old, trying to drag a bunch of stooges up to his level, but an old man standing on the grass yelling at the sky because the "world" is no longer the way he remembered it being in his day.

Pretty spot on and nice way to put it imo.

The problem with Ronny as captain long term is that it just becomes another reason he can’t be benched. His performances and ability do not warrant an automatic starter role in the team and there is at least a decent arguement to be made that both he and the team as a whole would be more effective if he were to be used more sporadically. how do you square that circle if he is publicly made captain of the fuking team. Just drives more headlines.

Give it to De Gea. It allows the leaders on the pitch to lead - whichever ones happen to be playing, takes the pressure off McGuire, and appoints probably the only player with a status in the squad that is beyond question.

Personally regardless of individuals, i prefer the capatin to be a vocal person and also lead by example and be an outfield player. Bruno, Ronaldo are good shouts.

Leading by example and being vocal need to go hand in hand though which could be the problem with Bruno and Ronny. They are vocal alright but one only comes alive in the final third but mostly loses possession and falls over, the other gives the ball away like he doesn’t want it. If you’re gonna vocal you need to be putting on solid 90 minute performances yourself. Neither of those two are.

Wish we would stop living in the past and accept that Ronaldo is finished. Ronaldo has a fantastic mentality but as a player he's completely past it. Signing him turned this season into a write off. Needs to go, never mind made captain.

Someone's got an agenda.
