I know I didn't want to be right about this and I'm pretty sure the OP, Rajma, of the original thread did not want to be correct. Logic, though, just suggested this would be a big mistake. I based it on aging. All of us who played football throughout our 30s experienced the lost steps, the longer recovery times, the heavy legs, and the slower reaction times that comes in your 30s while playing. Ronaldo is 37 now and he was never going to light up the EPL this season.
Now the question is do we keep him for another season just because he is Ronaldo? I hope not but I could see our front office doubling down on this mistake.
Football is a young persons sport and it's why SAF had a rule to not give multi-year contracts to players over 30.
