Bill Maher interviews some of religion's oddest adherents. Muslims, Jews and Christians of many kinds pass before his jaundiced eye. Maher goes to a Creationist Museum in Kentucky, which shows that dinosaurs and people lived at the same time 5000 years ago. He talks to truckers at a Truckers' Chapel. (Sign outside: "Jesus love you.") He goes to a theme park called Holy Land in Florida. He speaks to a rabbi in league with Holocaust deniers. He talks to a Muslim musician who preaches hatred of Jews. Maher finds the unlikeliest of believers and, in a certain Vatican priest, he even finds an unlikely skeptic.

Just saw a trailer for this, looks like its going to be pretty funny.

Anyone seen it?

I think Mermans in it.

I saw it. There are some funny parts but it's all the typical Maher nonsense. The documentary (if you can call it that) is mainly a non-serious, entertaining, mockery of religious people. This sucks on so many levels because all Maher proved is that you will find Christian, Jewish and Muslim lunatics and weirdos. He only shows those type of people who are perfect for his film and never really engages in any serious debate. He never tries to be a bit more balanced, but as I said, I dont believe he ever intended to.

The parts I found hilarious is when he talks to the religious leaders of some Christian churches because those guys are not just some poor individuals which are always easy to mock, but they represent a whole congregation and bear more responsibility for what they say in public. And the bullshit they give away is just shocking, especially if you're a moderate-liberal Christian. That part was almost unbelievable.

Its obviously not going to be a serious balanced debate on religion.

I just like watching nutjobs having the piss taken out of them, particularly religious nutjobs.

I saw it (wrote a tiny write up in the film review thread).

I liked it and found it witty. Maher was both entertaining and a bit annoying, i don't think he composed himself aswell as documentary makers should and alot of the times he'd jump in a sentence before letting the other person speak.

I liked it. It's generally a gentle mocking, rather than the rabid rantings you get with someone like Dawkins.

The final conclusion is a bit over the top but generally it's fun to watch without being particularly enlightening.

Being a Christian myself I was just shocked to see how some Christians think and behave. I dont mind at all exposing the hypocrisy of some of the leading figures and I think Maher did that quite well. It's when it comes down to mocking normal everyday people simply because they have faith that Maher becomes a parody of himself.

Just saw this. Overall I found it entertaining, more of a comedy than a documentary imo.

One thing that bothered me was how often the interviews were cut and edited in the middle of a guys answer. Made me loose trust in terms of context very quickly.
